BAG TECHNIQUE

A. Health Center

1. Arrange the articles needed for the visit 2. Clip

3. After greeting the family members and patient

enter the patient's room, look

for clean area near the patient where you can

perform with ease.

4. While holding the bag loosen the lock to

partially open it.

5. Take 14"20" paper lining and hold the sides to


open. Lay inner side flat on the center on the top

of the plastic lining

6. Take 131/2"-191/2" plastic lining and hold the

sides to open. Lay inner side flat on the center on

the top of the plastic lining.

7. Lastly remove the 121/2-181/2" paper lining

and hold the sides to open. Lay outer side flat on

the center on top of the plastic lining

8. Place the bag on the left side on top paper

lining.

9. Tuck in handles under the bag.

10. Open the bag fully and take out the following:

Soap dish lining waste paper

box Apron bottle with Lysol (if necessary) Soap

dish Hand towel.

11. Remove watch or any jewelry. Place it inside

your pocket. 12. Bring soap dish, lining and hand

towel to the washing area. 13. Spread soap dish

lining with the outer side on the washing area 14.

Place soap dish and hand towel on top

15. Open soap dish and put down cover facing

upward.

16. Perform medical handwashing.

17. Cover soap dish


18. Wipe and dry hand with hand towel

19. Leave soap dish and towel in the washing

area

20. Hold the apron on the folded part with left

hand and look for the straps. Hold straps with the

right hand and drop the apron making sure it will

not touch the things of the patient and specially

the floor.

21. Put on the apron. Slip the head first and then

both hands on the straps. 22. Open the bag and

the inner cover

23. Remove articles needed for the procedure

and care of the patient. Close the bag

24. Perform the nursing procedure

25. Wash and clean equipment after procedure. If

not possible, place in a separate bag to be taken

back to the health center.

26. Perform medical handwashing.

27. Wipe and dry hands with hand towel. Remove

the soap dish and towel. Pick soap and dish lining

on the center and fold with contaminated area

inside.

28. Open the bag for the last time and return

clean articles in the bag.


29. Take off the apron holding the sides by the

waist line of the apron. Fold without the straps

lengthwise to the center and contaminated are

inside. Then fold the straps crosswise along the

outer side of the apron. Fold again crosswise.

30. Place hand towel, soap dish and apron back

to the outer part of the bag.

31. Close inner cover of the bag. Place soap dish

lining inside the bag. Partially close the cover of

the bag.

32. Ask family member to burn dressing and

paper waste basket/box.

33. Carry the bag. Pick the top paper layer lining

on the center and fold with contaminated area

inside. Pick the plastic lining on the center and

fold with contaminated area inside. Lastly, pick

the bottom paper lining on the center and fold

with a contaminated area inside. Insert inside the

bag on top of the inner cover.

34. Close the bag

35. Record visit on the patient's chart.


URINE TESTING

1. Explain the procedure to the clients

2. Instruct patients to void, then collect

midstream urine.

3. Collect a small amount of urine (20cc). In a

clean container or specimen bottle.

Test for Urine Sugar:

I. Benedict's Solution

a. Place 5cc of Benedict's solution in the test tube

b. Add 8-10 drops of urine into the test tube

c. Place the specimen test tube into the specimen

test tube rock

d. Light the alcohol lamp.

e. Use the test tube holder to secure the test

tube while heating the solution to the alcohol

lamp

f. Wait until it bubbles. Note the change in color

g. Be careful in handling when heating specimens

during the procedure.

h. Read the Results:


Indicators:

(-) negative-clear blue or green

(+) positive-green with yellow precipitate

++ -yellow to green with yellow precipitate

+++ - muddy orange with yellow precipitate

++++ - orange to brick red precipitate

II. Acetest (Ketone Test)

Place acetest tablet on a strip of paper towel

b. Place 1 drop of urine on acetest tablet with

dropper in upright position

c. Wait for 1 minute and compare color of tablet

with chart:

Negative result: tablet color unchanged or turns

cream colored from wetting

Positive result: tablet color will change from

lavender to deep purple depending on the

amount of ketone bodies present.
