“An effective reading program develops reading competence in all students and is
based on proven practices. Three components are critical to the design, implementation, and
sustainanbility of powerful reading instruction: professional development that equips
educators with a solid knowledge-based; effective instructional tools that are aligned to the
knowledge-based; and school systems that support and nurture implementation.”
- Implementing and Sustaining an Effective Reading Program
The first program which was implemented under this club is the Online Reading
Series via zoom meeting. A short story was given to the assigned student ahead of time to
rehearse the said piece before reading it on the scheduled date. After reading the piece, the
ABC Adviser facilitated in processing the story by answering the comprehension questions
such as identifying the elements of the story, characters, setting, plot, moral/lesson, theme,
figurative language used (if there is), and others.
Fews months later, the second activity was created is the Project Literary Folio in
the person of Mr. Gerald De Luna who happened to be the substitute of Ms. Gladys Galabay
who was transferred in other school. This activity enhanced the students writing skill for they
are tasked to make literary pieces such as poems and flash fictions.
These two activities were implemented during the School Year 2020-2021 and still
being practiced this present school year 2021-2022. Another projects and activities were
being added like the Trolley Library and On-air Reading Series via CCSTHS FM Radio
Station 105.1 Radyo Edukalidad.
Last August 2021, Mrs. Analisa C. Telecio, City Librarian, also donated brand new
books, the “Guinness World Records (2011, 2012, 2014)”, “Reader's Digest (2013, 2015)”,
and a Webster Dictionary. On November 10, 2021, 2015 JCI Phillipines Batch LEGACY
President’s and Children’s International-Philippines just turned-over six hundred fifty four
(654) books, other reading materials and a one unit computer.
This school year, the school just received another unit of STARBOOKS (Science
and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Stations) from
Department of Science and Technology (DOST). It is a stand-alone information source
designed to reach those with limited or no access to S&T information sources. STARBOOKS
contains hundreds of thousands of digitized science and technology resources in various
formats placed in specially designed “pods” set in a user-friendly interface.
These donated reading materials and other instructional materials were of a big
help to create the Trolley Library (TroLib) which aims to reach the students at the comfort of
their home amidst pandemic. This November 2021, the troLib was just roved around the
feeder barangays of the school. This is being done every year as planned.
This school year, “ABC Online Reading Session” became “ABC Online and On-air
Reading Series” which is being held every Friday of the week falitated by the ABC Advisers
headed by Mrs. Sagario. During the second quarter and third of the school year, the ABC
Project Literary Folio was being done.
