ENGAGE
Our environment is filled with natural shapes
and geometric shapes. Those shapes start
with a point that may form a different line.
Keep in your mind.

Lines – a mark made by a moving point
– start with a dot and goes anywhere to form a line
Different Kinds of Lines
● Horizontal lines – run from side to side
– seem to be at rest to suggest peace and quiet
● Vertical lines – run up and down
– seem to be standing at attention
● Diagonal lines – show strength and power
– seem to be rising or falling
● Zigzag lines – formed from a combination of diagonal lines
● Curved lines – suggest grace in movement and playfulness
– slopes and wavy lines are made up of two or
more curves
Some lines are made of dots and dashes.
Some lines are thick, and some are thin.

● Shapes – formed when the end points of the line meet to enclose a space
Two Kinds of Shapes
● Geometric shapes – are circles, square, rectangles, ovals, and diamonds
– may form using a ruler
● Organic shapes – irregular and free-form, mostly found in nature

Keep in your mind.
● Balance – the arrangement of elements so that no
part of the work seems heavier than the other
● foreground – the nearest object drawn
● middle ground – the object behind the foreground
● background – the objects farthest away
*By applying foreground, middle ground and background
in drawing you will be able to crate balance.
* The closer the lines, the darker and thicker they look,
this shows the texture in your drawing.
PRACTICE
Study the picture or drawing. Identify where part
of drawing are foreground, middle ground and
background. Draw an arrow to connect word to
the part of drawing.

entitled “My Environment”, using a view of
the province/region with houses and
buildings indicating the foreground, middle
ground and background by the size of the
objects.
NOTE: Please prepare your project in ¼
illustration board.
