DAY 1
Content Standards: The learner demonstrates an understanding of:
a. the process of writing to generate and express
ideas and feelings; and
b. text elements to see the relationship between
known and new information to facilitate
comprehension.

Performance Standard: The learner:


a. uses a variety of prewriting strategies to generate, plan,
organize ideas, make a draft for specific purposes; and
b. correctly presents text elements through simple
organizers to make inferences, predictions and conclusions.

different challenging activities in English for you to become a good
reader and writer. Now, look at the words below.

 This, these and those are demonstrative pronouns.
 As you go on with your lesson you will understand more about big and
small ideas.

D. Discussing New Concepts and Practicing New Skills #1

Ideas can be shared in different forms. It can be through a spoken


language or it can also be done through writing.
When you write, you share your understanding, and you can organize and
present your ideas by webbing and drawing.

To generate ideas in preparation for the writing tasks you can do these
prewriting activities. These are the activities that can help you be able to
write what you have in mind.
Let’s try the given example below.

 This is an example of webbing.


 Webbing is a visual representation of your ideas about the topic that uses
shapes, lines, or arrows. This prewriting activity helps you illustrate the
relationship between the objects or concepts and how these pieces of
information relate to one another.

 You can connect ideas based on their classifications, common characteristics,


purposes, and other logical ways of grouping ideas.
 The topic or big idea in the given example is Colors and the supporting or
small ideas for colors are White, Black, Pink, Violet, Red and Blue.
 Now I want you do the activity below to understand more about webbing.

Ria and her friends went to a farm. As they walked, Ria saw some ducks,
chickens, pigs and dogs too. She also saw different kinds of birds. Ria was really
amazed because of these animals.

 Drawing is another prewriting activity that can help you show your
understanding through images or pictures. It portrays ideas and stories. This
activity promotes imagination and creativity.

 In number 1, the answer is made-up. A flying house doesn’t exist or does not
happen in real life.
 For number 2, the picture is real. It exists or happens in real life.
 In number 3, it is also real. It also exists or happens in real life.
 For number 4 and number 5 the answers are made-up. A flying carpet and a
king fish do not exist in real life.
 Made-up something does not happen or exist in real life.
 Real tells about things that could happen in real life.
