PROJECT PROPOSAL

I. TITLE: Gulayan sa Tahanan: Maayos na Pamayanan

II. RATIONALE:
Gardens have been important aspects of many cultures in history. In the
past, community gardens were commonly used to provide food for families year-
round. There is a need to inculcate and deepen appreciation among the youth
the importance of agriculture not only in our economy but also in our life. This is
the main reason for the implementation of the Gulayan sa Tahanan Program.

The Gulayan sa Tahanan Project targets to widen the knowledge of the

students and their families about the importance of having a good health. To hit
this target, it is essential to have gardens in our surroundings so that there would
always be available source of nutritious food for our children and so that they will
also learn and experience agri-business despite of your age.

The gardens will serve as source of additional vegetables for home

consumption, especially that the initiative aims to raise awareness on the health
and nutritional benefits of vegetables, as well as its economic benefits by
encouraging more household and community gardens.

According to Food Tank (2020), home vegetable gardening can not only
enhance produce consumption and physical exercise but is also linked to
improved emotional wellness. Home gardening has a similar effect on emotional
well-being as biking, walking, or dining out, according to a new study from
Princeton University (2020). It was the only activity in which those with modest
earnings reported the highest emotional well-being out of the 15 examined.
According to Hillside Atlanta (2019), gardening reduces melancholy, anxiety,
obesity, and heart disease and promotes personal happiness, quality of life, and
a feeling of community.

According to a study conducted by Eng et al. (2019), the most significant

advantage of gardening is enhanced social capital and connections. The effect of
children working together to plant and construct something significant is a more
vital link between them. Gardening with children can be a bonding relationship,
according to Lehman (2013), when it is pleasant and stress-free. On the other
hand, Better Health (2013) noted that by gardening as a family, adults might
share their skills and expertise with youngsters, and family members can learn
together.

III. OBJECTIVES:

1. To promote home vegetable production;

2. To create and maintain gardens as a fully prepared vegetable source to
meet daily needs;
3. To instill the value of gardening for the learner’s health and the
community.
