AJEROMI IFELODUN LOCAL GOVERNMENT

OFFICE OF THE SUPERVISOR FOR ENVIRONMENT

COMPRESIVE REPORT OF STREET SWEEPERS ACTIVITIES
Introduction
Street Sweepers are people engaged or delegated with the sole responsibility of
tiding and cleaning some strategic area in the Local Govt in order to have a
decent and clean environment.

Presently the total numbers of street sweepers in Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Govt
are Twenty Seven according to verifiable report engaging in cleaning the public
surroundings of the Local Govt Area.

But the present state of almost all the strategic areas in the Local Govt that
ought to be a focus point of their duties has shown the non existence of their
active presence even when they claims to be.

Recent findings by the supervisor environment about the activeness of their

activities shows that their activities has been reduce to mainly offices, VIP
Residence and some public institutions facilities through directive or lack of
consistent supervision and workforce shortage.

Currently only Twenty Two (22) out of the Twenty Seven (27) street sweepers
are physically active. Twenty One out of the Twenty Two are practically active
while one is not fit to continue in the required capacity due to her physical
health challenges. While the remaining five are either dormant or not even in
existence.

Out of the twenty one practically active sweepers almost none of them are
currently sweeping in the street. As they are been attach to various offices and
public institutions facilities.

So the primary aim of mainly engaging them has been defeated by neglecting
their main areas of duties.

The recent survey done by the supervisor for environment on the so called
practically active twenty one street sweepers shows that out of the twenty one,
five of them clean the Local Govt premises, twelve of them clean various
offices in the Local Govt Secretariat, three of the them clean public institutions
facilities, while one of them clean a VIP residence in the Local Govt Area.

Note: the last person that makes up the list of the twenty two physically active
street sweepers is practically unfit to continue in the required capacity of her
duty.
From the report above its obvious there is a work force shortage or lack of
sweepers deployment management in the areas of priority.
So in line with the Hon. Fatai Adekunle Ayoola
Administration Zero Tolerance: for environmental decadence or lapses in
order to vividly compliment the Administrative success in others sectors.
I would advice that there is an urgent need to quickly engage more work force
to cover the area where lapses has been notice or properly manage the
deployment system of the ones at hands.
But my preference would be that we engage more workforce for an efficient
work in the require areas of duties.
There should also be a kind of supervising mechanism to ensure effectiveness of
their activities.
We can also look into their welfare as a means to get them motivated.
Thanks
