As the COVID-19 pandemic happened, there’s a massive gap in the transportation system that needs to be
filled accordingly. Share your insights on the possible way/s for the jeepneys and even another mode of
transportations to adapt to all these changes. What do you think will be the future of public transportation
amidst the new normal or in the next years to come? Explain your answer in no more than five (5) sentences
using a situational illustration.

Government policy and financial aid are crucial during this period to allow public transportation companies to
remain viable and continue to support the flow of passengers and products in a sustainable way, as mass
public transportation is the lifeblood of most economies. To adapt to all of the changes that have occurred,
jeepneys and other modes of public transportation should follow all of the preventive procedures
recommended by the IATF, such as disinfection, thermal scanning, and wearing face masks at all times while
within the mode of transportation to make us safer while traveling. These protective and preventive measures
could be strengthened to allow for the easing of safe distance standards, which would help to alleviate
capacity constraints. Because person-to-person transmission is the most common mode of transmission,
public transit users must do their part by avoiding touching their faces, wearing masks, and washing their
hands with soap and water before and after using the system. If this pandemic has taught us anything, it is
that our urban mobility system will play a critical role in determining whether we can prevent future
emergency scenarios, such as the severe consequences of climate change, and that these insights can lead to
critical best practices for ensuring the long-term viability of our mobility system as well as perseverance.
