The subject of Fernando Amorsolo’s Dalagang Bukid painting is a country Filipina maiden
which portrays a Maria Clara image; whereas the subject of the famous Mona Lisa painting by
Leonardo da Vinci is believed to be an Italian noblewoman named Lisa del Giocondo.
2. What elements and principles of art are dominant?
Fernando Amorsolo’s Dalagang Bukid painting emphasized appropriation as he used pre-
existing art forms and art styles and featured elements such as thin brushstrokes, to emphasize
the appearance of the woman in terms of her outfit and skin color, whilst using vibrant color
values to depict the vibrant tropical nature of the countryside. On the other hand, Leonardo da
