QUESTION NO 3
3. What does the ISGOTT guide say about measuring and sampling of inerted
tanks?
Answer no.3
- I will try to answer this question according ISGOTT guide book (International
Chamber of Shipping). Third edition 2002, about measuring and sampling of
inerted tanks, that is tank washing may be carried out in one of the following
atmosphere
INERT – an atmosphere made incapable of burning by the introduction of
inert gas, and thereby reducing the over all oxygen content non exceed 8%
for the purpose of this guide
NON INERT – an atmosphere which is undefined
SOURCE of INERT GAS
- Nitrogen supplied by the ship it self can exther be produced on board as needed
from pressure swing adsorption or membrane separation generator or can came
from liquid nitrogen or compressed nitrogen stored on board. If the nitrogen
supply system is located in a class a machinery space.
- The design and installation of an on board Nitrogen generator will have taken
into account that the generator’s exhaust stream must be oxygen rich no
alterations should be made without carefull consideration. It has also become
common of inert cargo tanks, pumps, and pipe lines system. The terms inerting
of purging generally refer to gas (Usually Nitrogen) and the maintenance of that
condition to prevent the formation of flammable mixtures of cargo vapour and
air. Or to prevent chemical reaction between oxygen and the cargo inerting or
purging may also be necessary to reduce the humidity (dewpoint) of at the
atmosphere within the cargo system or to protect. The quality of the

cargo (in chemical tankers, as with oil tankers, the terms inerting and purging
are almost synonymous must not be confused with the entirely different use of
the terms in Liquefied Gas Tankers operations)
- Tanks that have been cleaned and gas – freed should be ne – inerted preferably
during the ballast voyage to allow the inert gas system to be fully tested prior to
cargo handling, purge pipes/vents should be opened to atmosphere in the tank
has fallen bellow 8% the purge pipes/vents should be clased and the tank
pressurized with inert gas
- Ullaging devices of the closed type should be used to avoid the opening of
ullage reports
- However it may be necessary to infrequently relive the inert gas pressure in the
cargo tanks on certain ocrasions to permit manual tanks gauge or cargo
sampling before or after cargo is transferred, if this done no cargo or ballasting
to be uncovered for as short a time a necessary to enable these measurements to
be completed manual gauging or cargo sampling may be performed during the
following four periods
At the loading port, prior to cargo loading
At the loading port, after cargo loading
At the discharge port, prior to cargo discharge
At the discharge port, after cargo discharge

4. What precautions are recommended by the ISGOTT guide when loading static
accumulator oil?
Answer no.4
- Tank inlet valve be used to control cargo flow in the initial loading phase their
use will reduce the crossectional area of the inlet resulting the increased tanks
inlet velocity and greater turbulence and mist formation. If it necessary to
throttle valves in order to control flow rate, this should be done upstream of the
tank valves

anti explain what maintenance and overhaul would you carry out on the Wilden
Pump to ensure smooth operation
Answer no.15
- The types of portable pumps on my vessel is hand pump and wilden pump
original series T15/A15
- For operation wilden pump are as follows:
Wilden pump must be connected to air hose, without air deck pump, this
pump cannot operation if its not conneted with air deck from engine room
pump GS. Another function for wilden pump, something like this. Example,
we can use this pump when there is leakage in the pump room as sson as
possible we can use this pump for overcoming this situation. In cas wilden
pump is going to innale the leakage of oil in pump room until there is not
leakage of oil in pump room anymore

Answer no.16
- Procedure for fixing gland parking on a valve gland:
We have to fitted the gate with a treaded spindle that connects to the valve
steam
We have to make the wheel of valve in fully open of position it take about 18

position
Make it offers no resistance to the flow of oil when the valve rectrects into
the open position
Make sure that the system of valves gland, and make it because a little bit
greased to avoid corrosion when it was used
However before replacing the packing glands flax packing, consider just
tightening the packing gland. This way, you could wait your normal haul out
and replace the packing gland flax then.
There’s a special wrench called a packing gland wrench its basically just a
large adjustable wrench, but with flatter/thinner blades. You should be able
to removethe staire, lift of the cole board in the galley, take of the 4 serens
holding the engine access cover hinges and place all out of the way
