The Filipino movie “Nars” directed by Adolfo B. Alix, Jr. was a movie about 4 th year
nursing students and their journey to becoming professionals. The movie started at the
beginning of their school year where they have been assigned rotational groups for their
duties. As the movie goes along it talks a lot about family, friendship and love. In the
movie it explained how each one of them is different, they have different aspirations,
different social classes and different point-of-views in life but it does not stop them from
creating a strong bond with one another. Some students are more privileged than
others but when it comes to helping one another no division of social class is formed.
This movie also shows a strong teamwork between nursing students, on how they need
each other to get through nursing.

The part of the movie that captured my heart the most was the part where they were
assigned as community health nurses in a specific barangay. It shows how most of us
nurses plan to go abroad when in fact the country that trained and educated us gets
deprived of professional nurses. One of the characters said “namamatay ang mga
pasyente dahil sa kakulangan sa serbisyo ng na dapat naidulot ng mga propesyonal na
katulad niyo” it goes to show that most of us nurses aspire to go abroad due to a much
better treatment than here in the Philippines. Such as Ella, she is planning to go abroad
to help out her family as it is her only way to make her family live a comfortable life.
Meanwhile adrinne, at the end of the movie talks about how she should stay and
practice her profession here in the Philippines. We cannot deny the fact that nursing
students raised in an impoverished community aspires to go abroad to earn higher
wages, just like ella.

Throughout the movie it showed the different struggles and hardships of nursing
students before they could get that RN in their name but they never gave up and
continued pursuing their dreams. As a nursing student watching this film it inspired me
to move forward in life as this journey may not be easy but it is surely worth it.
