POLICIES OF THE GRAYSON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT COUNCIL
Goals for the 2014-2015 School Year
1. Create innovative activities that involve the Student Body as a whole. 2. Foster an atmosphere that promotes school spirit and pride. 3. Serve as liaison between students, faculty, and administration. 4. Build opportunities for members of our Council and Student Body to grow and develop as leaders. 5. Promote and support the community with various service activities while leading by example. Advisors 1. Faculty member(s) of GHS appointed by the administration 2. Does not vote upon issues debated by the Student Council, but may offer suggestions and other forms of assistance 3. Be present or have representation at all Judicial Committee Hearings, executive meetings, and full council meetings. 4. Handles all financial duties of Student Council Student Body President 1. Preside at and lead all meetings. 2. Shall prepare the agenda for all meetings, based on Executive Board meeting reports. 3. Recognize speakers at all meetings. 4. Oversee all activities, meetings, and pillars. 5. Manage communication among the Student Council. 6. Set theme for the year. 7. Shall represent the Student Council at public functions associated with the school, whether during or outside of school. 8. Shall call special meetings as necessity demands. 9. Shall be responsible for seeing that all members of the Executive Board fulfill the duties and obligations of their offices by holding monthly meetings with each officer as well as keeping track of the points and attendance of all Executive Officers. 10. Keep an open line of communication between the administration and the Student Council. 11. Shall be in charge of organizing Student Council retreats and workshops. 12. Shall prepare an officer report to read at the General Council meeting. 13. Shall keep all attendance records and for all members in student council. 14. Be available at all times for whatever is needed.
Executive Secretary 1. Shall attend Executive Board meetings set by the president. 2. Shall supply all Student Council members of the most recent version of the constitution and other official documents. 3. Shall ensure that thank-you notes are written on behalf of the Student Council within five school days of an event. 4. Shall take minutes at all meetings, both Executive and general, and publish minutes for all meetings within three days to all members and advisors. 5. Shall write letters informing members that are in jeopardy of probation.
Parliamentarian 1. Shall attend Executive board meetings set by the president. 2. Shall act as time keeper of the meeting. 3. Shall serve as Sargent at Arms at all meetings/events. 4. Will plan and facilitate annual elections Webmaster 1. Shall attend all Executive Board meeting set by the president. 2. Shall be responsible for any updates needed on the GHS council website. 3. Shall maintain a calendar of Student Council Events. 4. Shall act as the official photographer at all Student Council events. 5. Create the scrapbook for the year and the recap video for the annual banquet. Class President 1. Oversee duties at class cabinet meetings and class events. 2. Bring class ideas to Advisor or Principal for approval 3. Organize events for the Class Competition 4. Work with the class cabinet to determine a community service project each semester 5. Junior Class- Ring meetings/reception, organize Prom 6. Senior Class- Organize senior events, graduation (cap and gown, invitations, etc.), and alumni relation/reunions after graduation.
Class Vice President 1. Assist in any decisions and problems that the Class President encounters 2. Assist in organizing class representatives 3. Be able to perform the duties of Class President in the event of his/her absence
Class Secretary 1. Attend and participate in class cabinet meetings 2. Take minutes at all class cabinet meetings and submit minutes via email to the class and the Executive Secretary 3. Write class thank-you notes
Vice President of Student Activities 1. Shall attend Executive Board meetings set by the president. 2. Prepare agendas and run workday/planning meetings 3. Prepare project planning documents (pre-planning, budget, evaluation, etc.) 4. Shall plan events pertaining to Student Activities each month and assign events to the Executive Board members in this pillar. 5. Shall prepare an officer report to read at the monthly general member meeting which will be submitted to the President at the officer meeting a week prior.
Vice President of Spirit 1. Shall attend Executive Board meetings set by the president. 2. Prepare agendas and run workday/planning meetings 3. Prepare project planning documents (pre-planning, budget, evaluation, etc.) 4. Shall plan events pertaining to increasing School Spirit each month and assign events to the Executive Board members in this pillar. 5. Shall prepare an officer report to read at the monthly general member meeting which will be submitted to the President at the officer meeting a week prior.
Vice President of Faculty 1. Shall attend Executive Board meetings set by the president. 2. Prepare agendas and run workday/planning meetings 3. Prepare project planning documents (pre-planning, budget, evaluation, etc.) 4. Shall plan events pertaining to Faculty Relations each month and assign events to the Executive Board members in this pillar. 5. Shall prepare an officer report to read at the monthly general member meeting which will be submitted to the President at the officer meeting a week prior.
Vice President of Leadership 1. Shall attend Executive Board meetings set by the president. 2. Prepare agendas and run workday/planning meetings 3. Prepare project planning documents (pre-planning, budget, evaluation, etc.) 4. Shall organize the monthly leadership training. 5. Will facilitate in coordinating attendance to and award applications for state, regional, and national conferences. 6. Would plan and execute fundraising activities to help members raise money to attend conferences. 7. Shall prepare an officer report to read at the monthly general member meeting which will be submitted to the President at the officer meeting a week prior.
Vice President of Service 1. Shall attend Executive Board meetings set by the president. 2. Prepare agendas and run workday/planning meetings 3. Prepare project planning documents (pre-planning, budget, evaluation, etc.) 4. Shall plan at least two event pertaining to Service each semester and assign events to the Executive Board members in this pillar. 5. Shall assist Couch Middle School and Bay Creek Middle School in creating and up keeping a Student Council that will feed into the Grayson High School Student Council. 6. Shall implement the GASC State Service Project in the Student Council. 7. Shall work together with each class to support their service projects. 8. Shall prepare an officer report to read at the monthly general member meeting which will be submitted to the President at the officer meeting a week prior.
Meetings 1. General Meetings shall be held on Fridays once a month until 4:30 PM. 2. Executive Meetings shall be held on Wednesdays every other week. 3. Three days notice must be given before a Special Meeting if everyone is expected to be there. Attendance 1. In order to remain in good standing, you must make at least 60% of points, and serve on at least 1 committee in each pillar excluding Leadership pillar. 2. In order to attend conventions, you must make at least 70% of points along with the committee requirement.
