About this audiobook
The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Year One and Of Blood and Bone concludes her stunning new trilogy praised as “A match for end-of-the-world classics like Stephen King’s The Stand.”
After the sickness known as the Doom destroyed civilization, magick has become commonplace, and Fallon Swift has spent her young years learning its ways. Fallon cannot live in peace until she frees those who have been preyed upon by the government or the fanatical Purity Warriors, endlessly hunted or locked up in laboratories, brutalized for years on end. She is determined to save even those who have been complicit with this evil out of fear or weakness―if, indeed, they can be saved.
Strengthened by the bond she shares with her fellow warrior, Duncan, Fallon has already succeeded in rescuing countless shifters and elves and ordinary humans. Now she must help them heal―and rediscover the light and faith within themselves. For although from the time of her birth, she has been The One, she is still only one. And as she faces down an old nemesis, sets her sights on the enemy’s stronghold, and pursues her destiny―to finally restore the mystical shield that once protected them all―she will need an army behind her…

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I loved the first book. Liked the second. And this one just kind of lost me altogether. Maybe it’s me, but I only got about half way through and realized I wasn’t really paying attention because I just wasn’t captivated with the story anymore. I might give it another try later.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The best trilogy ever. The third part of the trilogy was absolutely powerful. Duncan is a rude creep. I’d rather she of hooked up with Mick.

Every character is a delight, the strength of sentiments and relationships is never cheap, the performance of the voice excellent. I'll definitely listen again to this trilogy soon.
Thank you - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent book 3 in the Chronicles of the One series. Very sorry it's over, but really happy with the end of the story. I'm really going to miss these characters. Fallon, Duncan, Lana, Simon, Mick, Fred, Eddie, Tonia, etc. Just a great read!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5As most stories Good verses evil good wins. This series successfully builds up to the grand finale. It pulled me in with the characters so that I felt I was there, at times, observing the interaction. I miss them already...(sigh*)

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love this trilogy. It's just the sort to make you happy and smile. I first listened to the abridged version on Audible and I really feel that you miss something losing almost 5 hours of story is a lot. I'm always sad at the end because I wish the series went on a lot longer.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good conclusion
All in all, this was a good book. I thought there was a bit too much battling and not quite enough character time, but it was what the whole series had led up to. The final battle was just a little anticlimactic, too. Still, good book over all. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great end to the trilogy
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5In this book, Nora Roberts expertly creates a magical world, as only she can do, with wonderful characters and enchanting notions. In the first book, we saw the world succumb to a deadly plague that killed eighty percent of the population and caused magick to manifest in some of those left alive. Some turned to the light, but others were taken over by dark forces. In the second book, we followed Fallon Swift—who is The One—as she trained and learned from Mallick, an old sorcerer, so that she could bring the world back from the brink of destruction. I loved this third and final book where Fallon, her family, and her close circle of friends sacrifice everything to defeat raiders, the DU—Dark Uncanny, and the PW—Purity Warriors to bring The Light back to the people. Fallon not only inspires faith and trust to bloom again, but she also finds love for herself with Duncan, and together they defeat Petra and her evil dragon. A fun and entertaining story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I enjoyed this one a lot. The end was no surprise but the whole series was so well written I didn't mind. There were a few surprises in the plot and that helped keep my interest. I am glad the author ended here instead of dragging things out. The book felt done and I would have hated to have read book 4 and called it over worked. I liked the world the author imagined. The fact that there were people that were always on the side of darkness rings true with how our world and societies work. This gave the story an element of realism to it that would be lacking otherwise. I liked that the author showed that people that are different, i.e. non-magicks and magicks, can work together to achieve a better world. All around good series and I think most people would enjoy this.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I did not enjoy this book as much as the previous two in the series, or as much as many of Roberts' other long novels. The previous two books in the trilogy focused on individual characters' experiences, adventures, and relationships, so even though there were multiple concurrent story lines the reader felt connected and engaged with the characters, which is Roberts' forte. In this book the story advanced beyond individual and group quests, to a larger scale battle of good versus evil, with tens of thousands of fighters across the U.S. and beyond. While this makes complete sense with the flow of the narrative, the story became more about battle strategy and large scale fights, which is less interesting to the typical Roberts reader, and left me at least skimming pages to get past these scenes and back to the interpersonal interactions.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The third and final book in the Chronicles of The One trilogy. Two decades ago the Doom was unleashed and struck down most of humanity. Those left seemed to either turn to the light or the dark. On the dark are the a corrupt government, Dark Uncanny, Raiders and Purity Warriors. On the light are those working to try and rebuild society and helping others survive together with Magicks trying to do the same. Fallon Swift is The One, conceived on the day the dark was unleashed, destined to try and save what is left of the world and beat the dark back. Together with her family and the community they have built at New Hope, they build an army, ready to go into battle and save those imprisoned and tortured for being different. The battle scenes felt rushed in the book, but still a good read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Typical and predictable but a good read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5THE RISE OF MAGICKS by Nora RobertsThis third and final installment in the CHRONICLES OF THE ONE gives a satisfying and fully anticipated conclusion to the series. Roberts is a good writer who has command of her characters and story line. While the conclusion is apparent from the first pages of the series, that does not take away from the tension and dread of the survivors of THE DOOM who are establishing a new, kinder, gentler world – after 20 years of killing and war, of course. And, yes, beloved characters succumb to the evil of the Dark Uncanny and the Purity Warriors. If you started this series, you must finish it. If you haven’t started it, do begin at the beginning. These are not stand alones and while you may enjoy the books if you read them independently, you will find yourself wondering what everyone else knows that you do not and being slightly befuddles by some of the references and the meanings of various actions. Do yourself a favor, read them in order.5 of 5 stars
