Mark Scheifele WPG C
Jets' Mark Scheifele: Suffers injury in Game 5
5m agoScheifele (undisclosed) won't finish Wednesday's Game 5 versus the Blues, Tracey Myers of NHL.com reports.
Scheifele was injured on a hit in the first period, but he wasn't ruled out for the game until early in the third. The 32-year-old center picked up an assist prior to his exit, giving him six points over five playoff contests. All of those points have come on home ice, but Scheifele's potential absence still looms large for Game 6 in St. Louis on Friday.
-
David Savard MON D
Canadiens' David Savard: Retirement official
44m agoSavard retired from the NHL after Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Capitals in Game 5.
Savard played in 870 regular-season games and 62 playoff contests between the Blue Jackets, Lightning and Canadiens. The defenseman previously announced his retirement would come at the end of Montreal's playoff run. The 34-year-old accumulated 54 goals and 188 assists in the regular season as well as 17 points in the playoffs during his career.

Sergei Bobrovsky FLA G
Panthers' Sergei Bobrovsky: Looking to close out rivals
5h agoBobrovsky will start in goal on the road versus the Lightning in Game 5, Alex Baumgartner of Five Reasons Sports reports.
Bobrovsky is 3-1 in the series, adding a 2.01 GAA and a .902 save percentage. The 36-year-old won both previous starts in Tampa to begin the series, including a shutout win in Game 2. A win by the Panthers on Wednesday would afford Bobrovsky a bit of a breather prior to the second round.
-
Andrei Vasilevskiy TB G
Lightning's Andrei Vasilevskiy: In goal for Game 5
5h agoVasilevskiy will protect the home goal versus the Panthers in Game 5 on Wednesday, Gabby Shirley of FanDuel Sports Network Florida & Sun reports.
Vasilevskiy allowed three goals on 22 shots in Game 4 on Monday, squandering a lead late in the third period. That loss makes Wednesday's game a must-win for the Lightning to keep their season alive. Vasilevskiy is 1-3 with a 2.79 GAA and an .884 save percentage over the first four games of the series and has had his hands full with the defending champions at times.
-
Alexandre Carrier MON D
Canadiens' Alexandre Carrier: On track to play
5h agoCarrier (undisclosed) took warmups in his usual top-pairing spot, indicating he's expected to play in Wednesday's Game 5 versus the Capitals, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.
Carrier was hurt in Sunday's Game 4, but it appears the two days off between games gave him enough time to be ready. He didn't practice Tuesday, but he was labeled a game-time decision Wednesday and looked fine in warmups. Carrier has a goal and an assist over the first four postseason contests.
-
Alexei Protas WAS C
Capitals' Aliaksei Protas: Expected to play Wednesday
5h agoProtas (foot) is expected to be in the lineup versus the Canadiens in Wednesday's Game 5, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports.
Protas warmed up on the fourth line, which suggests he'll be eased back in after a 10-game absence. The 24-year-old Protas was superb at even strength in the regular season, earning 30 goals and 36 assists over 76 games. He had just six special-teams points -- five shorthanded and one on the power play.

Pavel Dorofeyev LV C
Golden Knights' Pavel Dorofeyev: Considered day-to-day
10h agoHead coach Bruce Cassidy said Wednesday that Dorofeyev (undisclosed) is considered day-to-day, Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
Dorofeyev exited Tuesday's Game 5 overtime win in the third period due to an unspecified injury, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be available for Game 6 in Minnesota on Thursday. If the 24-year-old is unable to suit up, Victor Olofsson will likely enter the lineup in his place.
-
Paul Cotter NJ C
Devils' Paul Cotter: Contributes assist in loss
11h agoCotter logged an assist, two shots on goal and nine hits in Tuesday's 5-4 double-overtime loss to the Hurricanes in Game 5.
Cotter ended his nine-game point drought with the helper. The 25-year-old was limited to one assist, five shots on net, 22 hits, three blocked shots and a minus-1 rating over five playoff outings. He's under contract for 2025-26 and is lined up for restricted free agency next summer, so he'll be looking for a big season. Cotter put up 22 points, 90 shots, 245 hits, 62 PIM and a minus-14 rating over 79 regular-season appearances in his first year with the Devils.
-
Dawson Mercer NJ C
Devils' Dawson Mercer: Costly penalty in Game 5 loss
11h agoMercer scored a goal, added six PIM and went minus-2 in Tuesday's 5-4 double-overtime loss to the Hurricanes in Game 5.
Mercer opened the scoring 3:46 into the game. However, the Hurricanes proved resilient and the contest went into double overtime, where the 23-year-old's double-minor for high-sticking Jesperi Kotkaniemi led to the end of the Devils' season. Mercer was relatively quiet in the postseason with two goals, a minus-6 rating, eight PIM, eight shots on net and 15 hits over five contests. The 23-year-old was limited to 36 points in 82 regular-season games, and while he's yet to miss an appearance in his career, his offense has trended in the wrong direction the last couple of years.
-
Nico Hischier NJ C
Devils' Nico Hischier: Tallies in season-ending loss
11h agoHischier scored a goal on four shots and added three hits in Tuesday's 5-4 double-overtime loss to the Hurricanes in Game 5.
Hischier briefly restored a lead for the Devils with his goal at 7:26 of the second period. This came after the Hurricanes erased the Devils' initial 3-0 lead. Hischier was excellent in the postseason, scoring four times over five games. He added 16 shots on net, 11 hits, seven blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating. Injuries caught up to the Devils late in the year, but they should once again be a contender in 2025-26 if everyone is healthy, and Hischier figures to play a large role next season.
-
Taylor Ward LA RW
Kings' Taylor Ward: Black Aces promoted from AHL
7h agoWard, Andre Lee, Francesco Pinelli, Jack Studnicka, Caleb Jones and Pheonix Copley were called up from AHL Ontario on Wednesday.
Ontario was eliminated from the 2025 Calder Cup playoffs, so there was no reason to keep these players on the minor-league roster. Barring some serious injury issues on the Kings' part, Ward, Lee, Pinelli, Studnicka, Jones and Copley are unlikely to play for Los Angeles during the postseason, but they'll soak up the playoff atmosphere and participate in practices.
-
Timo Meier NJ RW
Devils' Timo Meier: Nets goal in Game 5 loss
11h agoMeier scored a goal on five shots, added seven hits and blocked three shots in Tuesday's 5-4 double-overtime loss to the Hurricanes in Game 5.
Meier had four points, 18 shots on net, 21 hits, eight blocked shots and a minus-1 rating over five playoff contests. The 28-year-old winger continues to be a part of the Devils' core and will likely be a big all-around contributor in 2025-26. He had 53 points, 141 hits, 65 blocks, 58 PIM, 239 shots on net and a plus-7 rating over 80 regular-season contests this year.
-
Jackson Blake CAR RW
Hurricanes' Jackson Blake: Finds twine in comeback win
12h agoBlake scored a goal on three shots and added two PIM in Tuesday's 5-4 double-overtime win over the Devils in Game 5.
Blake was part of the second-period rally that saw the Hurricanes overcome an early 3-0 deficit in this contest. The 21-year-old rookie wrapped up the first round with a goal, three assists, 12 shots on net, five hits and six PIM over five playoff outings. He continues to play a top-six role, so there should be plenty of chances for him to contribute heading into the second round.
-
Andrei Svechnikov CAR RW
Hurricanes' Andrei Svechnikov: Scores again in Game 5
12h agoSvechnikov scored a goal on nine shots and added five hits in Tuesday's 5-4 double-overtime win over the Devils in Game 5.
Svechnikov's tally was the third in a span of 3:54 early in the second period as the Hurricanes wiped out the Devils' initial 3-0 lead. It's been a positive start to the playoffs for Svechnikov, who has five goals, one assist, 22 shots on net, 16 hits and a plus-3 rating over five postseason contests. The Hurricanes were the first team to secure advancement to the second round, so they'll have a bit of a break before facing the winner of the Capitals-Canadiens series.
-
Patrik Laine MON RW
Canadiens' Patrik Laine: Won't return Wednesday
12h agoLaine (upper body) will miss Game 5 against Washington on Wednesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Laine is set to miss his third straight game. He had 20 goals and 33 points across 52 regular-season appearances in 2024-25. Montreal is down 3-1 in its first-round series, so the Canadiens need to win in order to force a Game 6 on Friday. If that happens, then perhaps Laine will be an option for that game.
-
Sebastian Aho CAR LW
Hurricanes' Sebastian Aho: Plays hero to clinch series win
14h agoAho scored two power-play goals, one the game-winner, and added an even-strength assist Tuesday in the Hurricanes' 5-4 double-overtime victory over the Devils in Game 5 of their first-round series.
The 27-year-old tied the score at 4-4 with his first tally midway through the second period, then ended the night, and the series, with a one-timer from the faceoff circle past Jacob Markstrom early in the second OT. Aho has reeled off three straight multi-point performances, and he'll head into the second round with three goals and eight points through five games this postseason.

-
Miro Heiskanen DAL D
Stars' Miro Heiskanen: Joining team on road
10h agoHeiskanen (knee) will travel with the Stars to Colorado ahead of Game 6 against the Avalanche on Thursday, Sam Nestler of DLLS Stars reports Wednesday.
Heiskanen accompanied the Stars for their road trip to Colorado for Games 3 and 4, but didn't dress for either of those games, so his traveling doesn't necessarily mean he'll play Thursday. Still, Heiskanen is continuing to make progress, and his situation is worth monitoring. The 25-year-old had five goals and 25 points across 50 outings during the regular season.
-
Brett Pesce NJ D
Devils' Brett Pesce: Two helpers in Game 5 loss
11h agoPesce notched two assists, two shots on goal and four blocked shots in Tuesday's 5-4 double-overtime loss to the Hurricanes in Game 5.
Pesce was questionable heading into the game but ultimately suited up for 32:17 of ice time. The defenseman put up three assists, eight shots on net, 18 blocked shots and a plus-4 rating over five playoff contests. Pesce just finished the first season of a six-year contract, so he's set to be part of the Devils' defensive core for the remainder of the decade.
-
Dmitry Orlov CAR D
Hurricanes' Dmitry Orlov: Puts up assist in win
12h agoOrlov notched an assist, two shots on goal and three hits in Tuesday's 5-4 double-overtime win over the Devils in Game 5.
Orlov finished the first round with two helpers, a plus-1 rating, four PIM, six shots on net, 18 hits and eight blocked shots over five games. The 33-year-old has handled top-four minutes this postseason while working as a shutdown defenseman. He'll be a decent target for non-scoring production in fantasy throughout the playoffs.
-
Alexandre Carrier MON D
Canadiens' Alexandre Carrier: Considered game-time decision
12h agoCarrier (undisclosed) is considered a game-time decision for Wednesday's Game 5 against Washington, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Carrier sustained an injury during Sunday's Game 4 loss, and he missed Tuesday's practice session. The team will presumably wait to see how he feels during Wednesday's warmups before determining his status. Over the first four games of the series, he's recorded a goal, an assist, 11 blocked shots and seven hits while averaging 20:07 of ice time.

-
Filip Gustavsson MIN G
Wild's Filip Gustavsson: Probable for Game 6
7h agoGustavsson (illness) is likely to play at home versus the Golden Knights in Game 6 on Thursday after exiting Tuesday's Game 5 after two periods, Sarah McLellan of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports Wednesday.
Gustavsson has a 2-2 record, 2.63 GAA and .919 save percentage across five appearances in Minnesota's first-round series against Vegas. The Wild were down 2-1 when he exited Tuesday's game, and although Minnesota was able to tie things up, his replacement, Marc-Andre Fleury, conceded the deciding goal in overtime. That puts the Wild down 3-2 in the series, so they need a victory Thursday to force a Game 7 on Saturday.
-
Jordan Binnington STL G
Blues' Jordan Binnington: Expected to start Wednesday
10h agoBinnington is slated to start on the road against Winnipeg in Game 5 on Wednesday.
Binnington allowed four goals on 25 shots en route to a 5-3 loss in the Blues' playoff opener April 19. However, he's been solid since, going 2-1 with a 1.69 GAA and a .931 save percentage across his past three starts, which has allowed St. Louis to even its first-round series. Winnipeg might need to challenge Binnington more -- the Jets rank 11th in shots per game (24.5) in the postseason.
-
Jakub Dobes MON G
Canadiens' Jakub Dobes: In goal for Game 5
12h agoDobes will get the starting nod on the road against Washington in Game 5 on Wednesday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.
Dobes gave up three goals on 24 shots (.875 save percentage) in Game 4, and he will likely need to improve those numbers if the Habs are going to avoid elimination Wednesday. The 23-year-old backstop has limited experience, having played in just 16 regular-season NHL games this year in which he went 7-4-3 with a 2.74 GAA and one shutout.
-
Sam Montembeault MON G
Canadiens' Sam Montembeault: Unavailable for Game 5
12h agoMontembeault (lower body) won't be available for Wednesday's Game 5 on the road against Washington, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports.
Montembeault sustained a lower-body injury in Game 3, and he'll be unavailable for a second consecutive matchup Wednesday. Jakub Dobes has been named Montreal's starter for Wednesday's game, while Montembeault isn't with the team in Washington, so Cayden Primeau will dress as the No. 2 netminder.
