Folks in Greenland are up there at the Arctic Circle minding their own business. They’re enjoying seal soup — the national dish — and trying to stay warm on an island three times bigger than Texas with 75 percent of it covered by ice. Greenland is part of the North American continent, along with Canada and the United States, but it’s an autonomous part of Denmark.
It was an astonishing year, 2024. In the public arena there were some wins and some losses, the number and weight of each category dependent on one’s politics, or values — perhaps both, to the extent that one may be independent of the other.
Like an eternal carousel we’ve started a new trip around the sun, the 2,025th trip as we currently track time. Obviously not all of us have made each of those trips, although I’ve encountered a few folks who look as though they were on the original ride.
Please, someone stick a fork in 2024 because it’s done. Just a couple of days until it becomes the year that was, and it will be out of our misery. Nothing guarantees that 2025 will be better, but we can hope for the best. Like maybe an asteroid striking Earth.

MHHS FACS students learn to design charcuterie boards

Mountain Home High School FACS students display their charcuterie creations after LeeAnn Blevins, Baxter County Family and Consumer Sciences agent, spent time in December teaching them about the importance of food safety when creating and serving charcuterie boards. After learning essential food safety practices, the students collaborated in groups to design their own charcuterie boards, showcasing their creativity. The fun and practical skill, learned just in time for the holidays, gave students the confidence to create charcuterie boards at home to share with their families.
