Kellogg's Extra Crispy Clusters is a granola-type cereal made of whole grains, but it’s causing quite a stir due to its high price of almost $10 per box. Why is this new cereal from the company so expensive? We did some digging to try to figure out why. Kellogg's New Extra Crispy Clusters Cereal Kellogg's Extra Crispy Clusters cereal recently hit the shelves at a few grocery stores and retailers, but many shoppers were floored by the current price. On Instagram, the user CandyHunting posted about the new item saying the cereal is now sold at Meijer for $9.49 and other select retailers for $9.99 while asking if the company's recent change-up has something to with the price: “Did Kellogg's go off the deep end when the cereal division moved to the new WK Kellogg Co?” Back in the fall, Kellogg’s split into two companies: Kellanova, which focuses more on snacks and international cereal sales, and W.K. Kellogg, which deals mainly with breakfast cereals in the United States. Whether this divide has caused higher prices seems unknown, but one thing is certain: people aren’t happy. Many commented on this post saying, “It's called "Extra" cuz it costs extra,” and, “They can keep it for that price it's gonna cost close to 15-20 dollars just [to] eat milk and cereal no thanks.” Why Does Kellogg's New Extra Cereal Cost $10? One commenter added, “That Extra better be protein or no one's going to buy it.” Interestingly enough, when we looked closely at the ingredients, protein wasn’t one the company was highlighting. At just 5 to 6 grams of protein per serving (without milk), depending on whether you choose almond or cinnamon, that’s not very high. Instead, the cereal box states it is packed with fiber and whole grains, and its tagline reads: “Melt in your mouth delicious clusters.” But not everyone is excited over these clusters with one commenter saying, "These will tear off the roof of your mouth.” The box is a little over 20 ounces, which is bigger than other typical Kellogg’s boxes, such as regular Kellogg’s Corn Flakes, but around the same size as the family size Kellogg’s Raisin Bran Crunch, which is 22.5 ounces. Both of these boxes are also priced at $5.39 each at Meijer, making them considerably less than Kellogg's Extra Crispy Clusters. However, when we checked the price of these new clusters on Meijer's website, we spotted both boxes (almond and cinnamon flavors) on sale for $7.99 from $9.49 until Jan. 6. Either way, that’s still pretty pricey compared to Kellogg’s other cereals, but if you want to try it “on the cheap” it's best to do it while on sale. Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback!
