Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 24 servings

  • ½ cup melted butter

  • cup white sugar

  • 1 ½ cups crushed vanilla wafers

  • 1 cup chopped pecans

  • 1 cup butter, softened

  • 2 cups white sugar

  • 4 eggs

  • 1 cup milk

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 2 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease two 8x4 inch bread pans.

  2. Prepare the topping by combining the 1/2 cup butter, 1/3 cup sugar, vanilla wafers and pecans. Mix together well and press into the bottom of prepared pans.

  3. Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time and beat well. Combine milk and vanilla.

  4. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to batter, alternating with milk; beat well. Pour into prepared loaf pans.

  5. Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Remove from oven and cool on wire rack.
