Ingredients

Original recipe (1X) yields 6 servings

  • 1 (16 ounce) package penne pasta

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves crushed garlic

  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can crushed tomatoes

  • 1 tablespoon capers

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes, or to taste

  • 2 (5 ounce) cans tuna, drained

Directions

  1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add penne and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender yet firm to the bite, 10 to 12 minutes.

  2. Heat oil over low heat in a large skillet. Add onion and garlic; cook and stir until onion is tender, about 5 minutes. Stir in tomatoes, capers, lemon juice, parsley, and pepper flakes. Simmer gently until sauce thickens, about 3 minutes. Fold in tuna and cook until heated through.

  3. Drain penne and return to the pot. Pour sauce over pasta and toss to coat.

Recipe Tip

Use your favorite pasta shape in place of penne if desired.
