You Can Make Dozens of Baked Treats with This 2-Ingredient Dough

Skip the yeast, the proofing, and the special equipment.

If you've ever been intimidated by any form of bread-baking, I have the solution for you. A yeast-free, proof-free, 2-ingredient dough from user Michele Leigh Pinette Pierce that's made from ingredients you probably already have on hand. This recipe is so impressive, it actually feels magical.

With just self-rising flour and plain Greek yogurt, you can make almost any bread-based creation you can think of. Thick, Greek-style yogurt gives the dough its moisture and tenderness, while the leavening agents in the flour allow the dough to rise without yeast. That means morning pastries or after-school snack soft pretzels can be ready in just 30 minutes.

How to Make 2-Ingredient Dough

To make the dough, use a 3:2 ratio of flour to yogurt, but keep extra flour on hand in case the dough is too sticky. Just mix the ingredients together in a bowl until it forms shaggy strands, then turn the dough out onto a surface sprinkled with self-rising flour and knead until smooth, about 8 minutes. You can also add both ingredients to a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook to do the work for you. Keep in mind that this will be stickier than your average pizza or bread dough, so make sure to grease or line your baking dish before cooking.

If you don't have self-rising flour on hand, you can use this simple combination from user Marina G Roussou of all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt for the same results. To make a gluten-free version, make the self-rising flour by combining 1 1/4 cups gluten-free cup-for-cup replacement flour blend with 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder and 1/2 teaspoons salt. The gluten-free dough won't have quite as much elasticity, so be sure to handle it gently as you shape it to prevent any tearing.

What to Make with 2-Ingredient Dough

This simple dough is a blank slate of baking possibilities. It's super soft and pliable, so it's easy to form into any number of shapes. With just a few extra ingredients, the same dough can be transformed into anything from bagels to cinnamon rolls.

Whether its pizza crust, soft pretzels or garlic knots, the dough turns out light, soft, and fluffy every time. The flavor is mild, but has a slight tang that compliments toppings like everything bagel seasoning or garlic butter well. One of my favorite ways to use this recipe is for 2-Ingredient Dough Breadsticks, which tasted way closer to Olive Garden breadsticks than I would've ever imagined. Homemade breadsticks on the dinner table in under 30 minutes? Unreal.

When a dough is this effortless, you have full room for creativity with your breads and toppings. Try out lemon blueberry sweet rolls or chocolate chip-studded air-fryer bagels. Cheddar garlic knots or pigs in a blanket. Get the kids involved by picking out their favorite cheesy toppings for pizza night. You'll feel like a pro-baker with this easy recipe.
