Yakutsk is a major port on the Lena River. It is served by the Yakutsk Airport as well as the smaller Magan Airport. It is a major supplier of diamonds. Its population is almost 300,000 and its average winter temperature is −34°C (−30°F). If the 3 million km2 Sakha Republic were a sovereign nation, rather than a federal subject of Russia, its capital, Yakutsk, would be the coldest national capital as well as the coldest major city in the world.
History
The Turkic Sakha people, also known as the Yakuts, migrated to the area in the 13th and 14th centuries from other parts of Siberia due to the rising military power of the Mongols. When they arrived they mixed with other indigenous Siberians in the area. Russian Yakutsk was founded in 1632 as an ostrog (fort) by Pyotr Beketov. In 1639, it became the center of a voyevodstvo. The Yakutsk Voyevoda quickly became the most important Russian official in the region and directed expansion to the east and south.
Yakutsk is the capital of the Sakha Republic, Russia.
Yakutsk may also refer to:
Yakutsk Urban Okrug, a municipal formation in the Sakha Republic, Russia, which the city of Yakutsk and eleven rural localities in its jurisdiction are incorporated as

Lately, I’ve been watching solo camping in winter videos and I encourage Xander Budnick, Mav, Steve Wallis, Wargeh Bushcraft, Upnorthof60, Asbjorn Olsen-Berg Bushcraft channels to come to Yakutsk in Winter and make a camping survival video.

But they should be aware of blizzards, snow storms and heavy rains.
Winter camping is hard here, even harder than the cold weather of Ontario, Canada.
A night camping in the middle of a blizzard is no joke, so does ice camping. Luckily there are a lot of fish to catch in extreme cold temperatures.
Flights from Los Angeles to Yakutsk is about 30 hours and a one way ticket costs around 1000 American Dollars. There were no flights from New York City in the Winter. Fortunately, hotel fares were cheap and affordable in Siberia.
Second episode of Rediscovery will be coming very soon.

Imagine a place where winter temperatures regularly plunge to an unimaginable -60°C, where your breath crystallizes in the air, and cars are left running all day just to avoid freezing solid. This is Yakutsk, the coldest city on Earth and a land like no other. Nestled deep in Siberia, Yakutsk is not just a city—it’s a testament to human resilience, ingenuity, and the ability to thrive in the most extreme conditions.
But Yakutsk isn’t just about surviving the cold. It’s a place where ancient traditions coexist with modern life, creating a unique blend of culture and endurance. The city is the capital of the Sakha Republic, also known as Yakutia, a region larger than Argentina but home to fewer than a million people. Here, life isn’t just about battling the elements—it’s about celebrating a heritage that has thrived for centuries in one of the planet’s harshest environments.

Extreme Cities - Yakutsk: The coldest city on the planet
Most Dangerous Places on Earth: Coldest Road, Trip Antarctica, Australia's Ghost Towhttps://youtu.be/6-WynmoIXOc
In this place known as “the cold pole”, the biggest challenge relates to the nature of the soil: the “permafrost”. With the warming of the climate, this frozen soil is melting and the buildings are threatened with collapse.

You might have heard that Minnesota, Michigan or North Dakota are very cold in the Winter. But Yakutsk is a whole different story. This is not Alaska too.
Here are the links to my favorites:
