Stephen Scott (b. Corvallis, Oregon, 1944) is an Americancomposer best known for his development of the bowed piano (borrowed from C. Curtis-Smith, who invented the technique in 1972), which involves a grand piano being played by an ensemble of ten musicians who utilize lengths of horsehair, nylon filament, and other utensils to bow the strings of the piano, creating an orchestra-like sound. Scott founded the Bowed Piano Ensemble in 1977, for which he composes. His work is associated with the minimal style of composition.
Several recordings with Scott's Bowed Piano Ensemble have been released by New Albion Records. Scott has performed and composed pieces in a thirteen limit tuning by Terry Riley.
Stephen John Scott (11 September 1955 – 16 June 1994) was a New Zealand rugby union player. A halfback, Scott represented Canterbury at a provincial level, and was a member of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, on the 1980 tour of Australia and Fiji. He played four matches on that tour but did not play in any internationals.
The Beautiful is the second album and the first studio recording by Triptych Myth, a trio consisting of Cooper-Moore on piano, Tom Abbs on bass and Chad Taylor on drums. It was recorded in 2005 and released on the AUM Fidelity label. "Frida K. The Beautiful" is dedicated to Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. "Pooch" is dedicated to bassist Wilber Morris.
Reception
The All About Jazz review by Michael McCaw states "The Beautiful is a deeply affecting album of piano-driven interplay that seamlessly spans a range of jazz genres without a hint of trepidation or a false step."
In his review for JazzTimes Mike Shanley notes that "Free jazz might often consist of blistering, harsh sonorities, but these three prove that the quest for beauty is as much a part of this music as catharsis."
The Beautiful was an American rock band from New York City, with a line-up that consisted of Jonathan Lacey (vocals, guitar), Perry Bottke (bass), and Frank Ferrer (drums). Signed to Warner Bros. subsidiary Giant Records (Warner), the group issued a pair of releases - a five-song, self-titled EP in September 1990, and a full-length album, Storybook, in May 1992. The group received some media coverage, including a feature article in Rip Magazine and a video clip for the song "John Doe" being aired on the Headbanger's Ball program on MTV, but by 1993, the group split up.
Stephen Scott - "Resurrected" || Wallflower Wanderer
During an extremely rewarding trip down to Kentucky a couple of weeks ago, we got to meet and collaborate with a variety of local musicians. One of those musicians was the talented Stephen Scott. Stephen joined us at our cabin for our last day of filming, performing his original song, "Resurrected". It was a pleasure watching him play, and I can't wait to see what he produces next. Here's a few words from Stephen about what inspired the song:
"Resurrected is the product of a chemically charged conversation I had with a close friend of mine. We were both struggling with a great deal at the time and attempting to analyze it all. Rather than leaning towards our sympathetic sides, we decided to tear into each other with the most brutal honesty and the purest intentions. The kind of things...

The kind of things a person needs to hear sometimes, but never wants to. 'Maybe you are arrogant. Maybe you’re ungrateful. Maybe you’re an asshole. Maybe your idea of what ought and what is, is wrong. Maybe you’re the cause of all of these problems in you life.'"
