Stephen Fain "Steve" Earle (/ˈɜːrl/) (born January 17, 1955) is an American rock, country and folk singer-songwriter, record producer, author and actor. Earle began his career as a songwriter in Nashville and released his first EP in 1982. His breakthrough album was the 1986 album Guitar Town. Since then Earle has released 15 other studio albums and received three Grammy awards. His songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Travis Tritt, Vince Gill, Patty Loveless, Shawn Colvin and Emmylou Harris. He has appeared in film and television, and has written a novel, a play, and a book of short stories.
Earle was born in Fort Monroe, Virginia, and grew up near San Antonio, Texas. His father, Jack Earle, was an air traffic controller. Although he was born in Virginia where his father was stationed, the family returned to Texas before Earle's second birthday. They moved several times but Earle grew up primarily in the San Antonio area.
Earle began learning the guitar at the age of 11 and was placed in a talent contest at his school at age 13. He is reported to have run away from home at age 14 to follow his idol, singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt around Texas. Earle was "rebellious" as a youngster and dropped out of school at the age of 16. He moved to Houston with his 19-year-old uncle, who was also a musician, where he married and worked odd jobs. While in Houston Earle finally met Van Zandt, who became his hero and role model.
Steve Earle (born November 1, 1945) is an English former footballer who played professionally in both England and the United States.
An industrious midfielder, Earle played over ten years (1963–1974) for Fulham F.C. He then moved to Leicester City, playing from 1974 to 1978. During his time with Leicester City, Earle also played one game on loan with Peterborough United. In 1978, Earle moved to the Detroit Express of North American Soccer League. He played fifteen games for the Express in 1978, then moved to the Tulsa Roughnecks for eight more games at the end of the season. He remained with the Roughnecks for two more outdoor as well as one NASL indoor season. In the fall of 1980, he signed with the Wichita Wings of the Major Indoor Soccer League for one season.
In 1983, Earle became the assistant coach of the Tulsa Roughnecks. In November 1983, he took over as Roughnecks' head coach during the indoor season and had an 11-20 record and was released in March 1984. He later coached other youth and professional teams in Tulsa.
Rodney Crowell (born August 7, 1950) is an American musician, known primarily for his work as a singer and songwriter in country music. Crowell has had five number one singles on Hot Country Songs, all from his 1988 album Diamonds & Dirt. He has also written songs and produced for other artists.
He was influenced by songwriters Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt. Crowell played guitar and sang for three years in Emmylou Harris' "Hot Band".
He has won two Grammy Awards in his career, one in 1990 for Best Country Song for the song "After All This Time" and one in 2014 Best Americana Album for his album "Old Yellow Moon".
Crowell was born on August 7, 1950 in Crosby, Texas, to James Walter Crowell and Addie Cauzette Willoughby.(Chinaberry Sidewalks (New York: Knopf, 2011) He had come from a musical family, with one grandfather being a church choir leader and the other a bluegrass banjo player. His grandmother played guitar and his father sang semi-professionally at bars and honky tonks. At age 11, he starting playing drums in his father's band. In his teen years, he played in various garage rock bands in Houston, performing hits of the day mixed with a few country numbers.
Rodney Crowell is the third, eponymous studio album by American country music artist Rodney Crowell. It was released in 1981 (see 1981 in country music) by Warner Bros. Records and was his last album on that label before switching to Columbia. It was the first album Crowell produced by himself. It reached #47 on the Top Country Albums chart and #105 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The songs, "Stars on the Water" and "Victim or a Fool" were released as singles. "Stars on the Water" reached #30 on the Hot Country Songs chart, his highest charting song up to that point. It peaked at #21 on the Canadian country charts. "Victim or a Fool" reached #34 in the U.S. The album was rereleased on compact disc in 2005 paired with his previous album But What Will the Neighbors Think.
"She Ain't Goin' Nowhere" was written and recorded by Guy Clark in 1975 for his debut album Old No. 1. Later versions of the song change the "Goin'" to "going".
"Old Pipeliner" was first recorded in 1967 by Red Sovine on his album Dear John Letter.
"Stay a Little Longer" is a Western swing dance tune written by Bob Wills and Tommy Duncan. The title comes from a refrain in the chorus:
The song consists of a number of unrelated verses, one of which (verse three) comes from an old folk song—"Shinbone Alley":
Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys recorded it in 1945 and it reached #3 in 1946.Willie Nelson (#22, 1973) and Mel Tillis (#17, 1982) also charted Top 40 hits. The song has been recorded numerous times.
"Stay a Little Longer" is a song by American country music duo Brothers Osborne. The song was released in March 2015 as the duo's third single overall. Duo members John and T.J. Osborne co-wrote the song with Shane McAnally. The song was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.
The song is a guitar-driven mid-tempo about a man who has an encounter with an "on again, off again" lover and, after the encounter, wishes that they could "stay a little longer." T.J. Osborne, one half of the duo, told Rolling Stone that "That song gives them everything that we are. It starts off and the verses are really emotional and fragile. You don't want to be alone, you're making the phone call, taking the trip to the house and then you're tearing t-shirts off and it's this electric thing," T.J. says. "But then, boom, you're by yourself again: 'I'm lying here wishing you could stay a little longer.'" The duo previously recorded the song on their 2014 self-titled extended play, but re-recorded it for the single version with Jay Joyce as producer.

Christmas Eve 1975 at Guy and Susanna's Place. From the Movie "Heartworn Highways".
Veteran folk singer Steve Earle shared an intimate, seven-song concert with a small group of fans at Minneapolis club Icehouse in June. He shared his stories of Guy Clark, who helped Earle get into the music industry in the 1970s and played a couple songs from his 2019 album – 'Guy' – that pays tribute to his mentor. Earle also played solo acoustic versions of 5 songs throughout his storied career.
Steve Earle has lived through the sort of horrors that have launched a million country songs: addiction, affliction, heartbreak, even prison. He wears them in his voice, but what's most appealing about him is the wide-eyed, unmistakable fearlessness with which he goes about his life these days. The singer, author, actor and activist showcases many of his talents at the NPR Music offices. Set List: "Waitin' On The Sky" "Every Part Of Me" "This City" For more videos, visit npr.org/tinydeskconcerts
Since I was a teenager I dreamed of learning to play the guitar. My parents were not too wealthy and buying an instrument was therefore out of the question, so my dreams remained dreams. Later, when my own son became a musical education teacher and also played the guitar, I started to get the itch again and after my retirement I bought my own guitar and only took lessons with my son with an emphasis on chords and scales. This video gives an idea of what can be achieved after a few lessons and of course practice.
enjoy!

a little lost today
a little more than yesterday
a little less tomorrow hopefully
a little less each day
a little less lost
give me some time to curl up in whispers
remain in hiding for a while
gloomy in shadows so deeply
still breathing intensely
to finally surface renewed
completely
a little moan today
a little moan tomorrow
a little moaner I’ll be
till I’ll get better
so I’m not gonna moan for long
give me some time to curl up in whispers
remain in hiding for a while
gloomy in shadows so deeply
still breathing intensely
to finally surface renewed
completely
a little better already
a little better tonight
a little better tomorrow
a little better
give me some time to curl up in whispers
remain in hiding for a while
gloomy in shadows so deeply
still breathing intensely
to finally surface renewed
completely
every time I’m heart broken
it’s gonna hurt a little less I hope
the way you get used to pain
