Millennium Bridge, London
The Millennium Bridge, officially known as the London Millennium Footbridge, is a steel suspension bridge for pedestrians crossing the River Thames in London, linking Bankside with the City of London. It is located between Southwark Bridge and Blackfriars Railway Bridge. It is owned and maintained by Bridge House Estates, a charitable trust overseen by the City of London Corporation. Construction began in 1998 and it initially opened in June 2000.
Londoners nicknamed the bridge the "Wobbly Bridge" after pedestrians felt unexpected swaying motion. The bridge was closed later on opening day and, after two days of limited access, it was closed for almost two years while modifications were made to eliminate the motion. It reopened in 2002.
The southern end of the bridge is near the Globe theatre, the Bankside Gallery, and Tate Modern, the north end next to the City of London School below St Paul's Cathedral. The bridge alignment is such that a clear view (i.e. a "terminating vista") of St Paul's south façade is presented from across the river, framed by the bridge supports.

Millennium Bridge (Kazan)
The Millennium Bridge (Tatar: Cyrillic Милленниум күпере, Latin Millennium Küpere, Russian: Мост Милленниум) is a cable-stayed bridge that spans Kazanka River, in Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia. Its name originates from Kazan's thousandth anniversary, widely celebrated in 2005 and the shape of its M-like pylon.
The construction of the bridge began in 2004, the first part was ready in 2005 and the second part in 2007. The building cost was approximately 94 million euros.
The bridge is 835 metres (2,740 ft) long. The main part of this bridge is the 45-m pylon which looks like the letter M. This form originates from Meñyıllıq (Cyrillic: Меңъеллык), the Tatar for thousand years old, or its Latin variant Millennium. The roadway carries three lanes of traffic and a pedestrian walkway in each direction. The bridge connects Gorky park and Fatix Ämirxan Avenue.

Millennium Bridge (Dublin)
The Millennium Bridge (Irish: Droichead na Mílaoise) is a pedestrian bridge spanning the River Liffey in Dublin, joining Eustace Street in Temple Bar to the north quays.
Installed in December 1999, to commemorate the new millennium (2000), the span was actually constructed 80 km from Dublin - in Carlow - as a portal frame structure made up of a slender steel truss and resting on reinforced concrete haunches.
The bridge was designed by Howley Harrington Architects with Price & Myers as Consulting Engineers. The concrete base and steel structure for the bridge were provided by two Carlow firms: Formwork 2000+ and Thompson Engineering respectively.
The Millennium Bridge is neighbour to the much older (and well known) pedestrian Ha'penny Bridge to the east, and Grattan Bridge to the west.

Banks (singer)
Jillian Rose Banks (born June 16, 1988), known simply as Banks (often stylized as BANKS), is an American singer and songwriter from Orange County, California. She releases music under Harvest Records, Good Years Recordings and IAMSOUND Records imprints of the major label Universal Music Group.
She has toured internationally with The Weeknd and was also nominated for the Sound of 2014 award by the BBC and an MTV Brand New Nominee in 2014. On May 3, 2014, Banks was dubbed as an "Artist to Watch" by FoxWeekly.
Early life
Jillian Rose Banks was born in Orange County, California. Banks started writing songs at the age of fifteen. She taught herself piano when she received a keyboard from a friend to help her through her parents' divorce. She says she "felt very alone and helpless. I didn't know how to express what I was feeling or who to talk to."
Career
2013–present: Breakthrough and Goddess
Banks used the audio distribution website SoundCloud to put out her music before securing a record deal. Her friend Lily Collins used her contacts to pass along her music to people in the industry; specifically Katy Perry's DJ Yung Skeeter, and she began working with the label Good Years Recordings. Her first official single, called "Before I Ever Met You" was released in February 2013. The song which had been on a private SoundCloud page ended up being played by BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe. Banks released her first EP Fall Over by IAMSOUND Records and Good Years Recordings.Billboard called her a "magnetic writer with songs to obsess over." Banks released her second EP called London by Harvest Records and Good Years Recordings in 2013 to positive reviews from music critics, receiving a 78 from Metacritic. Her song "Waiting Game" from the EP was featured in the 2013 Victoria's Secret holiday commercial.

London, Ontario
London is a Canadian city located in Southwestern Ontario along the Quebec City–Windsor Corridor. The city has a population of 366,151 according to the 2011 Canadian census. London is at the confluence of the non-navigable Thames River, approximately halfway between Toronto, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan. The City of London is a separated municipality, politically separate from Middlesex County, though it remains the county seat.
London and the Thames were named in 1793 by Lord Simcoe, who proposed the site for the capital of Upper Canada. The first European settlement was between 1801 and 1804 by Peter Hagerman. The village was founded in 1826 and incorporated in 1855. Since then, London has grown to be the largest Southwestern Ontario municipality and Canada's 11th largest municipality, having annexed many of the smaller communities that surrounded it.
London is a regional centre of health care and education, being home to the University of Western Ontario, Fanshawe College, and several hospitals. The city hosts a number of musical and artistic exhibits and festivals, which contribute to its tourism industry, but its economic activity is centred on education, medical research, insurance, and information technology. London's university and hospitals are among its top ten employers. London lies at the junction of Highway 401 and 402, connecting it to Toronto, Windsor, and Sarnia. Dickens' London
Charles Dickens' works are especially associated with London which is the setting for many of his novels. These works do not just use London as a backdrop but are about the city and its character.
Dickens described London as a Magic lantern, a popular entertainment of the Victorian era, which projected images from slides. Of all Dickens' characters 'none played as important a role in his work as that of London itself', it fired his imagination and made him write. In a letter to John Forster, in 1846, Dickens wrote 'a day in London sets me up and starts me', but outside of the city, 'the toil and labour of writing, day after day, without that magic lantern is IMMENSE!!'
However, of the identifiable London locations that Dickens used in his work, scholar Clare Pettitt notes that many no longer exist, and, while 'you can track Dickens' London, and see where things were, but they aren't necessarily still there'.
In addition to his later novels and short stories, Dickens' descriptions of London, published in various newspapers in the 1830s, were released as a collected edition Sketches by Boz in 1836.

The bridge connects the north and south bank of the Thames, with St. Paul’s Cathedral to the north, and the Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe to the south. There are over thirty bridges in London crossing over the Thames, but the Millennium bridge is the only one specifically built for pedestrians in over a century. Such was the interest in the new bridge that when it opened to the public on 10 June 2000, an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 people crossed it. And then the problems began. The Millennium Bridge has become one of the most iconic bridges in London. When it was first opened - in 2000 - and people started walking across it, it had a terrible wobble! It was so bad that they had to close it and do some emergency engineering to correct the wobble. I went to see if it STILL wobbles - watch on to see what I thought. The Wibbly Wobbly Millennium Bridge in London - This was filmed just after the bridge was opened to the public. As you can see it's a tad on the wobbly side.
Such was the interest in the new bridge that when it opened to the public on 10 June 2000, an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 people crossed it.
And then the problems began.
Although the Millennium Bridge, like all bridges, was designed to cope with a degree of movement it soon became clear that things were going seriously awry as the deck swayed about like a drunken sailor.
So the bridge was instantly renamed as 'The Wobbly Bridge', and after two days of random swaying, swinging, and oscillating wildly, the bridge was closed down by embarrassed engineers.
Naturally, the press had a field day (in Britain we love failure!), questions were asked in Parliament and the public began to sense that perhaps another large white elephant had just landed on the shoreline of the Thames (the fiasco of the Dome was only a few miles downstream).
Things didn't get much clearer when the engineers decided that the problem was apparently due to people walking the wrong way! claiming that the infamous wobble (or 'synchronous lateral excitation', as they put it) was due to the 'chance correlation of footsteps when we walk in a crowd'.
This apparently - 'generated slight sideways movements of the bridge which made it more comfortable for people to walk in synchronization with the bridge movement'. In other words, once it started to sway people tried to counteract it, en masse, making the problem worse.
After a prolonged series of tests, it was decided to adopt a passive damping system that would harness the movements of the structure to absorb energy.
Two forms of passive damping were deployed: Viscous dampers and Tuned Mass Dampers. The Viscous dampers are located under the deck, around the piers and the south, to control the lateral motions and act much like shock absorbers.
The tuned mass dampers are also located beneath the deck and reduce vertical movements. Acting like weights on strings, these inertial devices are tuned to a specific frequency and attached to discrete points on the structure.
While work continued on the bridge, visitors were treated to the occasional sight of hundreds of paid volunteers walking over the bridge in army-type formations as the engineers battled to correct the swaying.
After nearly two years of testing, the alterations have been deemed a success and the bridge finally reopened to the public in February 2002 - and the swaying was banished forever!

It was so bad that they had to close it and do some emergency engineering to correct the wobble. I went to see if it STILL wobbles - watch on to see what I thought. The bridge crosses over the river Thames and connects St Paul's cathedral on the north bank to the Tate Modern on the south bank. Its location is brilliant - it really is one of London's prettiest and most stunning, scenic bridges. It even featured in a Harry Potter movie - watch the film to find out which one! Plus there's lots of surprising art on the floor...I don't want to give too much away, so you'll just have to click and watch and see. It was the most AMAZING autumn blue sky sunshine day when I filmed and London is really looking it's finest...

The Wibbly Wobbly Millennium Bridge in London - This was filmed just after the bridge was opened to the public. As you can see it's a tad on the wobbly side.
Such was the interest in the new bridge that when it opened to the public on 10 June 2000, an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 people crossed it.
And then the problems began.
Although the Millennium Bridge, like all bridges, was designed to cope with a degree of movement it soon became clear that things were going seriously awry as the deck swayed about like a drunken sailor.
So the bridge was instantly renamed as 'The Wobbly Bridge', and after two days of random swaying, swinging, and oscillating wildly, the bridge was closed down by embarrassed engineers.
Naturally, the press had a field day (in Britain we love failure!), questions were asked in Parliament and the public began to sense that perhaps another large white elephant had just landed on the shoreline of the Thames (the fiasco of the Dome was only a few miles downstream).
Things didn't get much clearer when the engineers decided that the problem was apparently due to people walking the wrong way! claiming that the infamous wobble (or 'synchronous lateral excitation', as they put it) was due to the 'chance correlation of footsteps when we walk in a crowd'.
This apparently - 'generated slight sideways movements of the bridge which made it more comfortable for people to walk in synchronization with the bridge movement'. In other words, once it started to sway people tried to counteract it, en masse, making the problem worse.
After a prolonged series of tests, it was decided to adopt a passive damping system that would harness the movements of the structure to absorb energy.
Two forms of passive damping were deployed: Viscous dampers and Tuned Mass Dampers. The Viscous dampers are located under the deck, around the piers and the south, to control the lateral motions and act much like shock absorbers.
The tuned mass dampers are also located beneath the deck and reduce vertical movements. Acting like weights on strings, these inertial devices are tuned to a specific frequency and attached to discrete points on the structure.
While work continued on the bridge, visitors were treated to the occasional sight of hundreds of paid volunteers walking over the bridge in army-type formations as the engineers battled to correct the swaying.

A first-person perspective London walk tour from the Millennium Bridge to St Paul's Cathedral.
Experience all of the sights and sounds as Watched Walker (yes, I’m talking about myself in the third person) takes us on a walking tour through the streets of London, featuring Millennium Bridge to St Paul’s Cathedral. The route begins on the south end of the Millennium Bridge by Tate Modern, crossing over the River Thames and up Peter’s Hill, ending in front of St Paul’s Cathedral.
Sights seen along the tour include street performers, an artist selling paintings, a caramelised almonds & peanuts seller, a photoshoot, an invisible man, and The National Firefighters Memorial.
And in each video I've hidden a blinking eye, can you spot it? (It could appear more than once). In addition to the blinking eye, I've also added the Watched Walker logo to various scenes–it could be on buildings, vehicles or any other objects, so keep an eye out for it too!

Just a few steps from St. Paul’s Cathedral is a much newer addition to the city, the pedestrian only Millennium Bridge! This steel suspension bridge officially opened to the public in 2000, but wasn’t completely functional until 2002. The bridge connects the north and south bank of the Thames, with St. Paul’s Cathedral to the north, and the Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe to the south. There are over thirty bridges in London crossing over the Thames, but the Millennium bridge is the only one specifically built for pedestrians in over a century. The bridge offers some spectacular views of the city, and is extremely handy when trying to get from one attraction to the next!

The Millennium Bridge, officially known as the London Millennium Footbridge, is a steel suspension bridge for pedestrians crossing the River Thames in London, linking Bankside with the City of London. It is owned and maintained by Bridge House Estates, a charitable trust overseen by the City of London Corporation. Construction began in 1998, and it initially opened on 10 June 2000.
Londoners nicknamed it the "Wobbly Bridge" after pedestrians experienced an alarming swaying motion on its opening day. The bridge was closed later that day and, after two days of limited access, it was closed again for almost two years so that modifications and repairs could be made to keep the bridge stable and stop the swaying motion. It reopened in February 2002.
The bridge is located between Southwark Bridge and Blackfriars Railway Bridge. Its southern end is near the Globe Theatre, the Bankside Gallery, and Tate Modern, while its northern end is next to the City of London School below St Paul's Cathedral. The bridge's alignment is such that a clear view (i.e. a "terminating vista") of St Paul's south façade is presented from across the river, framed by the bridge supports.

The Wibbly Wobbly Millennium Bridge in London - This was filmed just after the bridge was opened to the public. As you can see it's a tad on the wobbly side.
Such was the interest in the new bridge that when it opened to the public on 10 June 2000, an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 people crossed it.
And then the problems began.
Although the Millennium Bridge, like all bridges, was designed to cope with a degree of movement it soon became clear that things were going seriously awry as the deck swayed about like a drunken sailor.
So the bridge was instantly renamed as 'The Wobbly Bridge', and after two days of random swaying, swinging, and oscillating wildly, the bridge was closed down by embarrassed engineers.
Naturally, the press had a field day (in Britain we love failure!), questions were asked in Parliament and the public began to sense that perhaps another large white elephant had just landed on the shoreline of the Thames (the fiasco of the Dome was only a few miles downstream).
Things didn't get much clearer when the engineers decided that the problem was apparently due to people walking the wrong way! claiming that the infamous wobble (or 'synchronous lateral excitation', as they put it) was due to the 'chance correlation of footsteps when we walk in a crowd'.
This apparently - 'generated slight sideways movements of the bridge which made it more comfortable for people to walk in synchronization with the bridge movement'. In other words, once it started to sway people tried to counteract it, en masse, making the problem worse.
After a prolonged series of tests, it was decided to adopt a passive damping system that would harness the movements of the structure to absorb energy.
Two forms of passive damping were deployed: Viscous dampers and Tuned Mass Dampers. The Viscous dampers are located under the deck, around the piers and the south, to control the lateral motions and act much like shock absorbers.
The tuned mass dampers are also located beneath the deck and reduce vertical movements. Acting like weights on strings, these inertial devices are tuned to a specific frequency and attached to discrete points on the structure.
While work continued on the bridge, visitors were treated to the occasional sight of hundreds of paid volunteers walking over the bridge in army-type formations as the engineers battled to correct the swaying.
After nearly two years of testing, the alterations have been deemed a success and the bridge finally reopened to the public in February 2002 - and the swaying was banished forever!

The Millennium Bridge has become one of the most iconic bridges in London. When it was first opened - in 2000 - and people started walking across it, it had a terrible wobble! It was so bad that they had to close it and do some emergency engineering to correct the wobble. I went to see if it STILL wobbles - watch on to see what I thought. The bridge crosses over the river Thames and connects St Paul's cathedral on the north bank to the Tate Modern on the south bank. Its location is brilliant - it really is one of London's prettiest and most stunning, scenic bridges. It even featured in a Harry Potter movie - watch the film to find out which one! Plus there's lots of surprising art on the floor...I don't want to give too much away, so you'll just have to click and watch and see. It was the most AMAZING autumn blue sky sunshine day when I filmed and London is really looking it's finest...

A first-person perspective London walk tour from the Millennium Bridge to St Paul's Cathedral.
Experience all of the sights and sounds as Watched Walker (yes, I’m talking about myself in the third person) takes us on a walking tour through the streets of London, featuring Millennium Bridge to St Paul’s Cathedral. The route begins on the south end of the Millennium Bridge by Tate Modern, crossing over the River Thames and up Peter’s Hill, ending in front of St Paul’s Cathedral.
Sights seen along the tour include street performers, an artist selling paintings, a caramelised almonds & peanuts seller, a photoshoot, an invisible man, and The National Firefighters Memorial.
And in each video I've hidden a blinking eye, can you spot it? (It could appear more than once). In addition to the blinking eye, I've also added the Watched Walker logo to various scenes–it could be on buildings, vehicles or any other objects, so keep an eye out for it too!
