The Chukotka Autonomous Okrug
Nestled in the furthest North-East of Russia, the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug is a wild territory of Arctic and sub-arctic terrain. This icy land, which is surrounded by the Arctic and Pacific oceans, is also the homeland of the Chukchi people. The history of the region is one of gradual Russian expansion and enormous mineral wealth, marred with black episodes of war, hunger and gulags.

in vollen Zügen erleben.

The Island of Čiovo is situated in Central Dalmatia near the cities of Trogir and Split.
Due to the proximity of the city of Trogir, the Island of Čiovo offers the opportunity to explore the historical monuments of beautiful Trogir. The location of Čiovo in central Dalmatia, mild climate, many picturesque rocky - pebble beaches and a wide range of apartments make it a popular holiday destination.
The island of Čiovo is connected to the mainland by two bridges: 1) the movable Trogir - Čiovo bridge leading straight from the old town of Trogir., and 2) the New Čiovo Bridge (Croatian Veterans Bridge), 547 meters long, put into operation in July 2018.
Okrug Gornji, Mastrinka, Arbanija and Slatine are towns located on coast of Čiovo Island.
Okrug Gornji Beach is the longest pebble beach on Čiovo Island (about 2 km long). This beach is located on the North west coast of the island of Čiovo in the tourist town of Okrug Gornji near Trogir old town. Despite the fact that beach seems to be a narrow, it is very comfortable and despite appearances, a lot is happening on it. On the one hand, we have beautiful water and a gentle descent into the water, on the other hand we are surrounded by pubs, bars and numerous attractions that offer water sports. Sunbeds and umbrellas can be rented on the beach. Along the beach there is a seaside promenade and a paid parking lot.
Mastrinka, Arbanija and Slatine are small tourist towns located along north coast of Čiovo Island.

Okrug is a small town and municipality located in the western part of the island Čiovo, in Croatia. It is connected by road through the old town of Trogir with the mainland. It is divided into Okrug Gornji and Okrug Donji, two traditional Dalmatian villages apart just a few kilometers.
The entire length of the coast is sandy beaches such as the famous Copacabana which provide ideal conditions for families with children.
From the island of Čiovo, there is a beautiful view of the central Dalmatian archipelago and the islands of Šolta, Brač, and Drvenik Veliki and Drvenik Mali with the possibility of daily trips to them.

Impact Craters and Mammoths: Welcome to Chukotka
Chukotka is not a republic or krai, it's an autonomous okrug. Roughly translated, that's a district, province or county. Okrugs were created in the 1920s to provide autonomy to the indigenous people of the North. But from a federal stand point, it sits equal to all the other subjects of the Russian Federation.

After so many failed attempts to finish this documentary, it is finally ready for the people. One of the reasons was that the trip turned out completely different from what we planned it would be. After many years, this project was dead but I always wanted to finish it despite no real reason for it to exist. In the end, ignoring all the failed things, we went to Chukotka, traveled through an extreme conditions and came back. This story has a right to see the light of the day. Enjoy!

EL'GYGYTGYN LAKE | Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, northeast Siberia.
The majority of Chukchi reside within Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, but some also reside in the neighbouring Sakha Republic to the west, Magadan Oblast to the southwest, and Koryak Autonomous Okrug to the south. Some Chukchi also reside in other parts of Russia, as well as in Europe and North America. The total number of Chukchi in the world slightly exceeds 16,000.

The Russian name "Chukchi" is derived from the Chukchi word Chauchu ("rich in reindeer"), which was used by the 'Reindeer Chukchi' to distinguish themselves from the 'Maritime Chukchi,' called Anqallyt ("the sea people"). ROVING REPORT: RR9937/A RUSSIA: CHUKOTKA TRIBE
(9 Sep 1999) In the extreme north-east of Siberia, the Chukchi, the indigenous people of Chukotka are being forced to return to traditional ways of life to survive as years of state support for the region ebbs away in the crisis-hit Russia of the 1990s. For decades the Soviet government pumped money into mineral-rich Chukotka, subsidising hefty benefits for locals and paying bonuses to Russians and Ukrainians to come and work in the region. A delivery programme brought in supplies of food, fuel, clothing and manufactured goods regardless of cost. Now the autonomous province can still not provide for itself as 'earnings' from the raw materials it exports to the south fail to materialise in cash-strapped Russia. As subsidies disappear and supplies to Chukotka are reduced to a survival mi...

More information about the video content bellow:
1. Chukotka is the 2nd-least-populated federal subject at 50,526 (2010) and the least densely populated. The autonomous okrug's surface area is 737,700 square kilometers, about 6% larger than the U.S. state of Texas, and is the 7th-largest Russian federal subject. The region is the most northeasterly region of Russia, and since the
Alaska Purchase has been the only part of Russia lying partially in the Western Hemisphere (east of the 180th meridian).
2. The first inhabitants were Paleo-Siberian hunters who came to Chukotka from Central and East Asia. The area was then part of the Beringia land bridge that is believed to have enabled human migration to the Americas.
3. Anadyr is the largest town and the capital of Chukotka, and the easternmost settlement to have town status in Russia.
4. Chukotka is home to Elgygytgyn Lake, an impact crater lake. The word "Elgygytgyn" means "white lake" in the Chukchi language. The lake is centered within an impact crater with a rim diameter of 18 km (11 mi) that formed 3.6 million years ago during the Pliocene.
5. Chukotka is primarily populated by ethnic Russians (52%), Chukchis (27%), and other indigenous peoples. The Chukchi originated from the people living around the Okhotsk Sea. According to recent genomic research, the Chukchi are the closest Asiatic relatives of the indigenous peoples of the Americas.
6. The Chukchi Peninsula projects eastward forming the Bering Strait between Siberia and the Alaska Peninsula, and encloses the north side of the Gulf of Anadyr. The peninsula's easternmost point, Cape Dezhnev, is also the easternmost point of mainland Russia. Ecologically, Chukotka can be divided into three distinct areas: the northern Arctic desert, the central tundra, and the taiga in the south. About half of its area is above the Arctic Circle. This area is very mountainous, containing the Chukotsky Mountains (highest point Iskhodnaya) and the Anadyr Highlands.
7. Wrangel Island is an island in the Arctic Ocean, between the Chukchi Sea and East Siberian Sea. It may have been the last place on earth where mammoths survived. Woolly mammoths survived there until 2500–2000 BC, the most recent survival of all known mammoth populations. Isolated from the mainland for 6000 years, about 500 to 1000 mammoths lived on the island at a time.

Enjoy!

The total number of Chukchi in the world slightly exceeds 16,000.
the Reindeer Chukchi, who lived as nomads in the inland tundra region, migrating seasonally with their herds of reindeer. The Russian name "Chukchi" is derived from the Chukchi word Chauchu ("rich in reindeer"), which was used by the 'Reindeer Chukchi' to distinguish themselves from the 'Maritime Chukchi,' called Anqallyt ("the sea people"). Their name for a member of the Chukchi ethnic group as a whole is Luoravetlan (literally 'genuine person').

As subsidies disappear and supplies to Chukotka are reduced to a survival minimum, the Chukchi are returning to traditional skills of whale hunting and reindeer hunting to survive.
