Ian Scott Anderson, MBE (born 10 August 1947) is a Scottish-born musician, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist best known for his work as the lead vocalist, flautist and acoustic guitarist of British rock band Jethro Tull. Anderson plays several other musical instruments, including keyboards, bass guitar, bouzouki, balalaika, saxophone, harmonica, and a variety of whistles. His solo work began with the 1983 album Walk into Light, and since then he has released another five works, including the sequel of Jethro Tull album Thick as a Brick (1972) in 2012, entitled Thick as a Brick 2.
Ian Anderson was born the youngest of three siblings. His father, James Anderson, ran the RSA Boiler Fluid Company in East Port, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. Anderson spent the first part of his childhood in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was influenced by his father's big band and jazz records and the emergence of rock music, though disenchanted with the "show biz" style of early American rock and roll stars like Elvis Presley.
Robert John Gurney Anderson (16 June 1925 – 11 January 2005), known as Ian Anderson, was a former President of the Legislative Council of the Isle of Man.
Mr Anderson was born in Glencross, Rathmullan, County Donegal, Ireland, in 1925. He left school at the age of 13 and joined the Belfast Technical College before moving to the Isle of Man in 1946. In 1963 Ian was elected as a member of Patrick commissioners and remained as such until being elected as member of the House of Keys for Glenfaba. In 1982 he was elevated to the Legislative Council and remained a member until retiring from Tynwald in 1993. In 1988 he was elected as the, second ever non-Governor, President of the Legislative Council. He served until 1990 when the constitution was altered and Sir Charles Kerruish became ex officio President. Ian Anderson also held many Ministerial-level appointments during his career. He died on 11 January 2005.
His son is David Anderson MHK.
Ian Gregory Anderson (born 14 October 1948, in Horsham) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL).
Anderson, who was recruited to Essendon from Miga Lake, debuted in 1967 and finished the year with 21 goals. A forward, he kicked a career best tally of seven goals against Hawthorn in the opening round of the 1968 season. He didn't play in 1969 or 1970 due to war service in Vietnam, where he fought as a Private with the 8th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment. When he returned he spent one final season at Essendon before moving to Western Australia and representing his adopted state at the 1972 Perth Carnival.
Ian Hugh Myddleton Anderson (1953 – 2 February 2011) was a leading figure on the British far-right in the 1980s and 1990s.
Anderson was born in Hillingdon. Anderson's involvement in politics began in the mid-1970s when he was close to certain elements on the right of the Conservative Party, particularly the Monday Club .
Anderson viewed himself as a 'respectable' figure in right wing circles and spent some time at the University of Oxford on two separate occasions studying zoology.
Anderson joined the National Front in the late 1970s and was initially seen as a supporter of National Organiser Martin Webster. However, when the Political Soldier faction, led by figures such as Nick Griffin and Derek Holland, moved against Webster and his assistant Michael Salt, Anderson sided with the rebels and used his casting vote to ensure that Webster and Salt were expelled for mismanagement.
Ian Anderson (September 11, 1954 – November 5, 2008) was a Scottish professional football defender who spent most of his career playing in the United States.
Anderson began his professional career with Dundee F.C. when he was sixteen, his debut with the first team coming in August 1972. In December 1975, Dundee sent him to St Johnstone F.C., and in 1977 St Johnstone sent him on loan to the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the North American Soccer League. In 1978, the Rowdies traded the American rights to Anderson to the Houston Hurricane in exchange for draft picks. Houston then purchased his contract from St Johnstone. That fall, the Houston Summit became a member of the Major Indoor Soccer League. The team was essentially the Houston Hurricane in an indoor guise. He was a 1978–1979 MISL All Star with Houston.
When both the Hurricane and Summit collapsed in 1980, Anderson signed with the Cleveland Force of MISL. In December 1980, the Rowdies selected Anderson in the NASL Dispersal Draft which included players from the disbanded Hurricane. While the team wanted him for the NASL indoor season, he remained with the Force for the rest of the season, garning first team All Star honors. He returned to the Rowdies for the 1981 outdoor season before moving indoors permanently that fall with the Force.
Ian Anderson (born 2 April 1946) is an Australian former professional snooker player.
Anderson turned professional in 1973, playing his first World Championship match against Perrie Mans of South Africa in 1974; Anderson held Mans to 1–1, but Mans pulled away to win 8–1.
The following year, he was eliminated 4–15 in the last 16 by Rex Williams, and in 1976, he lost 5–8 to Jackie Rea. In the 1979 tournament, Anderson was defeated in qualifying by a young Steve Davis, by 9 frames to 1, but in the 1982 Australian Masters, the group stage being in one-frame shoot-out format, he managed to beat Ray Reardon 70–48 and incumbent World Champion Alex Higgins 70–50 before losing 115–119 over two frames to Davis in the semi-final.
Anderson reached the last 64 of the 1986 Grand Prix, where he lost 4–5 to Cliff Wilson having led Wilson 4-2, but his activities remained largely restricted to the Australian events, and he lost his place on the professional tour in 1992, aged 46 and with a world ranking of 147th.
Charles Dickens' works are especially associated with London which is the setting for many of his novels. These works do not just use London as a backdrop but are about the city and its character.
Dickens described London as a Magic lantern, a popular entertainment of the Victorian era, which projected images from slides. Of all Dickens' characters 'none played as important a role in his work as that of London itself', it fired his imagination and made him write. In a letter to John Forster, in 1846, Dickens wrote 'a day in London sets me up and starts me', but outside of the city, 'the toil and labour of writing, day after day, without that magic lantern is IMMENSE!!'
However, of the identifiable London locations that Dickens used in his work, scholar Clare Pettitt notes that many no longer exist, and, while 'you can track Dickens' London, and see where things were, but they aren't necessarily still there'.
In addition to his later novels and short stories, Dickens' descriptions of London, published in various newspapers in the 1830s, were released as a collected edition Sketches by Boz in 1836.

This is the moment a fight broke out on a motorway roundabout just off the M58. Footage captured by a HGV driver shows a white van appearing to pick the wrong lane on a roundabout before switching to avoid re-joining the motorway. A white car jostles with it for position until it swerves dramatically and appears to 'ram' the van, sending both vehicles crashing into a grass verge. The car driver sees 'red mist' and begins 'throwing punches' through the van driver's window - prompting him to eventually get out and the pair begin brawling on the road. The van driver quickly floors the other driver with three punches before grabbing onto his legs and kicking him. He only stops once Darren jumps from his HGV to separate the pair and tell them to exchange details, which he says they never d...

I looked in the mirror then
saw my face in a dream.
With eyes sharp as diamonds
Blessed with clear vision
Things were not as they seemed
Black and White Television
stared back from the wall.
Is that my life?
Am I here at all?
Down in the High Road, see
motor cavalcades glide
past shopwindow dressers
desperately covering
all the parts they can hide.
Black and White Television
stares at me again.
Is that their lives?
Even dummies pretend.
The truth is so hard to deny.
The answer is here
The screen never lies.
Black and White Television.
It's the right television.
Show me it's all a dream tonight.
The boys on the corner sulk
in their Suzuki haze.
In primary colours
(each year more startling)
but they still fade to grey
on Black and White Television.
It's sweeping the land.
Is that your life?
Do you understand?
Black and White Television
Back the right television
Black and White Television
Hard to fight television
Show me it's all a dream
