Ian Scott Anderson, MBE (born 10 August 1947) is a Scottish-born musician, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist best known for his work as the lead vocalist, flautist and acoustic guitarist of British rock band Jethro Tull. Anderson plays several other musical instruments, including keyboards, bass guitar, bouzouki, balalaika, saxophone, harmonica, and a variety of whistles. His solo work began with the 1983 album Walk into Light, and since then he has released another five works, including the sequel of Jethro Tull album Thick as a Brick (1972) in 2012, entitled Thick as a Brick 2.
Ian Anderson was born the youngest of three siblings. His father, James Anderson, ran the RSA Boiler Fluid Company in East Port, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. Anderson spent the first part of his childhood in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was influenced by his father's big band and jazz records and the emergence of rock music, though disenchanted with the "show biz" style of early American rock and roll stars like Elvis Presley.
Robert John Gurney Anderson (16 June 1925 – 11 January 2005), known as Ian Anderson, was a former President of the Legislative Council of the Isle of Man.
Mr Anderson was born in Glencross, Rathmullan, County Donegal, Ireland, in 1925. He left school at the age of 13 and joined the Belfast Technical College before moving to the Isle of Man in 1946. In 1963 Ian was elected as a member of Patrick commissioners and remained as such until being elected as member of the House of Keys for Glenfaba. In 1982 he was elevated to the Legislative Council and remained a member until retiring from Tynwald in 1993. In 1988 he was elected as the, second ever non-Governor, President of the Legislative Council. He served until 1990 when the constitution was altered and Sir Charles Kerruish became ex officio President. Ian Anderson also held many Ministerial-level appointments during his career. He died on 11 January 2005.
His son is David Anderson MHK.
Ian Gregory Anderson (born 14 October 1948, in Horsham) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL).
Anderson, who was recruited to Essendon from Miga Lake, debuted in 1967 and finished the year with 21 goals. A forward, he kicked a career best tally of seven goals against Hawthorn in the opening round of the 1968 season. He didn't play in 1969 or 1970 due to war service in Vietnam, where he fought as a Private with the 8th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment. When he returned he spent one final season at Essendon before moving to Western Australia and representing his adopted state at the 1972 Perth Carnival.
A dark star is a theoretical object compatible with Newtonian mechanics that, due to its large mass, has a surface escape velocity that equals or exceeds the speed of light. Whether light is affected by gravity under Newtonian mechanics is questionable but if it were accelerated the same way as projectiles, any light emitted at the surface of a dark star would be trapped by the star's gravity, rendering it dark, hence the name.
During 1783 geologist John Michell wrote a letter to Henry Cavendish outlining the expected properties of dark stars, published by The Royal Society in their 1784 volume. Michell calculated that when the escape velocity at the surface of a star was equal to or greater than lightspeed, the generated light would be gravitationally trapped, so that the star would not be visible to a distant astronomer.
This assumes that light is influenced by gravity in the same way as massive objects.
Michell's idea for calculating the number of such "invisible" stars anticipated 20th century astronomers' work: he suggested that since a certain proportion of double-star systems might be expected to contain at least one "dark" star, we could search for and catalogue as many double-star systems as possible, and identify cases where only a single circling star was visible. This would then provide a statistical baseline for calculating the amount of other unseen stellar matter that might exist in addition to the visible stars.
Dark Star is a brewery in currently located in Partridge Green, in the county of West Sussex, England.
Dark Star was originally the name of a porter developed by Rob Jones when he was employed by the Pitfield Brewery. The name comes from the Grateful Dead song Dark Star. It was highly successful, being voted Champion Beer of Britain in 1987. He took the recipe with him when he moved to the brewery based at the Evening Star. The beer itself is now known as Dark Star Original.
The Dark Star Brewery Company started, in 1994, as a small plant squeezed into a corner of the cellar of The Evening Star Pub, in Brighton. The company was founded by entrepreneur Peter Halliday, publican Peter Skinner, and brewer Rob Jones. At that time it was known as Skinner's brewery, but there was another Skinner's brewery in Cornwall, so the name was changed to Dark Star, after Jones's successful recipe for porter.(The resemblance between the names "Dark Star" and "Evening Star" is coincidental). It soon became apparent before long that the brewery could not keep up with the growing demand from the Evening Star’s drinkers, let alone the demand for its beers from other pubs.
Dark Star is a live album by the rock group the Grateful Dead. It was recorded on May 4, 1972, at the Olympia Theatre in Paris, France. It contains only one song from that concert — a version of "Dark Star" that, including an embedded drum solo, is almost 40 minutes long. It was produced as a vinyl LP in a limited edition of 4,200 copies, and released on April 21, 2012, in conjunction with Record Store Day.
The entire May 4, 1972 concert, like all of the shows from the Dead's 1972 tour of Europe, was released on CD in 2011, both as a separate album and as part of the boxed set Europe '72: The Complete Recordings.
Ian Hugh Myddleton Anderson (1953 – 2 February 2011) was a leading figure on the British far-right in the 1980s and 1990s.
Anderson was born in Hillingdon. Anderson's involvement in politics began in the mid-1970s when he was close to certain elements on the right of the Conservative Party, particularly the Monday Club .
Anderson viewed himself as a 'respectable' figure in right wing circles and spent some time at the University of Oxford on two separate occasions studying zoology.
Anderson joined the National Front in the late 1970s and was initially seen as a supporter of National Organiser Martin Webster. However, when the Political Soldier faction, led by figures such as Nick Griffin and Derek Holland, moved against Webster and his assistant Michael Salt, Anderson sided with the rebels and used his casting vote to ensure that Webster and Salt were expelled for mismanagement.

I looked in the mirror then
saw my face in a dream.
With eyes sharp as diamonds
Blessed with clear vision
Things were not as they seemed
Black and White Television
stared back from the wall.
Is that my life?
Am I here at all?
Down in the High Road, see
motor cavalcades glide
past shopwindow dressers
desperately covering
all the parts they can hide.
Black and White Television
stares at me again.
Is that their lives?
Even dummies pretend.
The truth is so hard to deny.
The answer is here
The screen never lies.
Black and White Television.
It's the right television.
Show me it's all a dream tonight.
The boys on the corner sulk
in their Suzuki haze.
In primary colours
(each year more startling)
but they still fade to grey
on Black and White Television.
It's sweeping the land.
Is that your life?
Do you understand?
Black and White Television
Back the right television
Black and White Television
Hard to fight television
Show me it's all a dream
