Andy Sheppard (born 20 January 1957) is a British jazz saxophonist and composer. He has been awarded several prizes at the British Jazz Awards, and has worked with some notable figures in contemporary jazz, including Gil Evans, Carla Bley, George Russell and Steve Swallow.
Sheppard was born in Warminster, Wiltshire, England, in 1957. At the age of 19 he emerged as a musician in the Salisbury-based contemporary quartet Sphere in the late 1970s, gigging only three weeks after picking up the saxophone. He honed his skills in the wine bars and jazz clubs of the UK and Europe in the early 1980s. He also played with world music groups and with more established improvisers such as Keith Tippett. While still with Sphere, Sheppard moved to Paris, working with French bands Lumière and Urban Sax.
In the mid-1980s Sheppard returned to the UK, playing often on Ki Longfellow-Stanshall's and Vivian Stanshall's Bristol, England-based Old Profanity Showboat, and released his self-titled debut solo album, featuring Randy Brecker and Steve Swallow, who also produced the album. The record was well received and led to Sheppard being awarded the Best Newcomer prize at the 1987 British Jazz Awards, followed by the Best Instrumentalist Award in 1988. '87 also saw Sheppard join George Russell's Living Time Orchestra and tour with Gil Evans.
Andy Sheppard (born 1972 Simcoe, Ontario, Canada) is a Canadian broadcaster and musician. He was the host of the defunct CBC Radio 2's nightly jazz program After Hours and currently produces and is a regular guest host of the contemporary music program The Signal for CBC Radio 2.
A graduate of McGill University's music program, Sheppard is also a guitarist, composer, experimental artist, and songwriter. His song "Until Next Time" was named the winner of the 2006 Colleen Peterson Songwriting Award. His song "And The Bells They Rang" was featured in the viral video Shit Girls Say and his piece "The Things You Want (and The Things You Need)" was featured in a promotional film for the Tony Hawk Ride Channel.
The Land of Nod (Hebrew: eretz-Nod, ארץ נוד) is a place mentioned in the Book of Genesis of the Hebrew Bible, located "on the east of Eden" (qidmat-‘Eden), where Cain was exiled by God after Cain had murdered his brother Abel. According to Genesis 4:16:
"Nod" (נוד) is the Hebrew root of the verb "to wander" (לנדוד). Therefore, to dwell in the land of Nod is usually taken to mean that one takes up a wandering life. In English, to 'nod' is to fall asleep suddenly. Consequently, in the United Kingdom, to go to the Land of Nod is to go to sleep.
Land of Nod is the name of a small hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is located at the far end of a two-mile-long road which joins the A614 road at Holme-on-Spalding-Moor (53.818268, -0.724011).
Land of Nod Road is the name of a residential road in Windham, Maine, USA, and another in Headley Down, Hampshire, UK
One of American writer John Steinbeck's most famous novels is East of Eden. The betrayal of a brother is one of its central themes.
The Land of Nod is a location mentioned in the Bible. It may also refer to:
The Land of Nod are a space rock/post-rock duo from Cheltenham, England, comprising guitarist Ant Walker and bass guitarist Dave Battersby.
The band formed in the mid 1990s, the members having previously been in the bands Elegant Chaos, Lucid Dream, and Reverb. Walker and Battersby were augmented by a drum machine, and specialized in space rock/post-rock guitar instrumentals. At times the duo were joined by others including David Wrench (synthesizer/piano/cello).
The band's first release was the track "Floating around in the bubblebuzz", which was released on the Voyage to the Cosmic Underworld: Volume One EP in 1995 on Ochre Records. The following year, they released two tracks on a split 12-inch EP with The Bass Cadets, and in January 1998 they released another split single with Ectogram. The band's first dedicated release was a four-track 10-inch EP in July 1998, which was followed in February 1999 by the debut album, Translucent. The band then released an album a year until 2003's Colli De Pedona. Their 2001 mini-set Mont Ventoux was themed on the Tour de France; The title track is a reference to one of the highest summits in the race, "Anquetil" was named after five times Tour winner Jacques Anquetil, and "Sommet" featured the voice of Eddy Merckx.

This is a short video from the Sept. 28, 1968 game between the New York Yankees and the Red Sox in Boston, in which Yankees legend Mickey Mantle has his final at-bat in the major leagues. The game, the second-to-last of the season at Fenway Park, was broadcast on WHDH TV in Boston, with Ken Coleman on the play by play here. Mantle came up in the first inning to face Jim Lonborg and got a nice round of applause. He popped to shortstop Rico Petrocelli, then trotted back to the dugout, Andy Kosco replacing him in the bottom half of the inning and playing first base. Lonborg had just recently given up Mantle's 536th and final career home run (the announcer short-changes the Mick a bit). It was tough watching Mantle hit late in his career because of his bad legs, but even so, he still could whi...

The land of Nod arouses fascination for many people as it is a biblical land. Many wonder if Nod was indeed a character. What was Cain's destiny when he was banished to this land? Who was his wife?
The land of Nod was where Cain settled after he was punished by God for the murder of his brother Abel (Genesis 4:8). The Bible reads, “Then Cain went away from the presence of the LORD and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden” (Genesis 4:16). No one knows where the land of Nod was located, only that it was east of Eden. The Bible does not mention the land of Nod again. Cain’s settling “east of Eden” implies that he was further removed from the garden than Adam and Eve were. His fate was to live the life of an outsider. The fact that Cain left God’s presence suggests that he lived the rest of his life alienated from God. The word Nod, in Hebrew, means “wanderer, exile, or fugitive.” This corresponds to God’s word to Cain that he would “be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth” So...

She uses deductive reasoning to reveal that they must have been the descendants of Adam's son Cain, who helped populate the world at a time when few humans existed.

It ain't black
But it ain't white
It ain't darkness
No, no, but it ain't light
It ain't cool
But it ain't hot
No it's something it should be
But I know it's not
CHORUS
'Cause we are comfortable here in our slumber
Lullabyed by the heartbeat of God
But we can't be alive in His number
While living in the land of Nod
So we lie down
By the light of the lamp
Unaware that there's evil in our camp
And we snooze
And we snore
And sometimes it's so loud
That we can't hear the lion roar
CHORUS
Shake it up, wake it up
Turn on the light
We've been asleep for too long
Souls have been rusted
And hearts have been turning to stone
Oh, where did we go wrong?
(Repeat Verse 1)
