The Kurgan hypothesis was first formulated in the 1950s by Marija Gimbutas, who used the term to group various cultures, including the Yamna, or Pit Grave, culture and its predecessors. David Anthony instead uses the core Yamna Culture and its relationship with other cultures as a point of reference.
Marija Gimbutas defined the "Kurgan culture" as composed of four successive periods, with the earliest (Kurgan I) including the Samara and Seroglazovo cultures of the Dnieper/Volga region in the Copper Age (early 4th millennium BC). The people of these cultures were nomadic pastoralists, who, according to the model, by the early 3rd millennium BC had expanded throughout the Pontic-Caspian steppe and into Eastern Europe.
A kurgan (Russian:курга́н) is a tumulus, a type of burial mound or barrow, heaped over a burial chamber, often of wood. The Russian noun, which is already attested in Old East Slavic, is borrowed from an unidentified Turkic language, compare Modern Turkishkurğan, which means "fortress". These are mounds of earth and stones raised over a grave or graves. Associated with its use in Soviet archaeology, the word is now widely used for tumuli in the context of Eastern European and Central Asian archaeology.
The Kurgan's life story is fleshed out in several Highlander spin-offs in various media.
Highlander
The Kurgan—who was found on the shores of the Kurgan tribe where he was taken in and named Victor—was born in what is now Russia on the border of the Caspian Sea. His tribe, the Kurgans, Juan Ramírez notes, were infamous for their cruelty, and were known to "toss children into pits full of starved dogs, and watch them fight for [the] meat" for amusement.
In 1536, the Kurgan hired himself out to Clan Fraser in their battle with the MacLeod clan, in exchange for allowing him to be the one to kill Connor MacLeod. In the midst of the battle, the Kurgan challenged MacLeod. Before Connor could strike, the Kurgan ran him through with his broadsword. However, Connor's cousins Angus and Dougal (along with other members of his clan) beat the Kurgan back, rescuing Connor from certain beheading. The Kurgan promised he would finish it, screaming: "Another time, MacLeod!!" Five years later, another Immortal, Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, sought out the now fully Immortal MacLeod as the only hope of defeating the Kurgan. However, the Kurgan discovered this, and tracked them down to MacLeod's home. MacLeod was away, but Ramírez and Heather MacLeod, Connor's wife, were there. He battled Ramírez, who managed to slice Kurgan's throat (though not deep enough to behead him) before being impaled and decapitated himself; all while Heather watched. After taking Ramirez's Quickening, the Kurgan raped Heather and departed. MacLeod returned shortly after, narrowly missing his enemy.
People is a fortnightly Australianlad's mag published by Bauer Media Group. It has been published since 1950. It is not to be confused with the gossip magazine known by that name in the United States; that magazine is published under the name Who in Australia.
People focuses on celebrity interviews and scandal, glamour photography, sex stories sent in by readers, puzzles, crosswords, and a jokes page.
People was reportedly the first weekly magazine in Australia to feature topless models.
History
People was first published in 1950; it covered "everything from news, to scandals, to true crime stories."
Pix, a weekly men's magazine, merged with People in 1972.
People magazine started a "Covergirl of the Year" quest in the early 80s with Samantha Fox an early winner. The 1985 winner was Carolyn Kent. People had a deliberate policy of searching for "average Aussie birds" from 1985 onwards, trying to veer away from a reliance on U.K. Page 3 girl pictorials (though Page 3 girls still appeared, and indeed, Tracey Coleman was named Covergirl of the year in 1992 and 1994). Mostly scouted by and photographed by Walter Glover, many popular "average" girls became very popular and frequent cover girls. These include Lynda Lewis, Lisa Russell, Narelle Nixon, Melinda Smith, Raquel Samuels, Tanja Adams (real name Tanja Adamiak) and Belinda Harrow (who also appeared as the debut cover–centre of Picture magazine in 1988.
The Sunday People is a British tabloid Sunday newspaper, founded as The People on 16 October 1881.
It is published by the Trinity Mirror Group, and shares a website with the Mirror papers. In July 2011 it had an average Sunday circulation of 806,544. By January 2014 the circulation had shrunk to 374,820. Despite its tagline claim to be a "truly independent" newspaper, The People endorsed the Labour Party at the 2015 general election on the recommendation of polling data from its readers.
Notable columnists
Garry Bushell had a two-page television opinion page, "Bushell On the Box", but left in early 2007, later moving to the Daily Star Sunday
Mathis spent four years recording for Mercury Records (1963-67) producing ten studio albums. Under the terms of his contract with the label, he owned the masters of his recordings. He returned to Columbia Records in 1968 and licensed twenty Mercury album tracks to Columbia for release, ten of which appeared on this record. The remaining ten Mercury tracks appeared on his next album for Columbia, The Impossible Dream. The track listing below includes the title of the original album on which each song appeared.

European folklore and the Kurgan Hypothesis

The Migration of Indo-European Languages
In this episode the History of the World Podcast leads us through a heavily complex and complicated subject involving the Indo-European origin of many of the languages that we have today and the migrations that occurred early in our human history as humans and their evolving languages spread out across the globe, in many ways connected and in many ways different. Enjoy!
7000 BCE onwards - Proto-Indo-Europeans are believed to have spoken a language ancestral to over four hundred languages of the modern world. Why do we believe this when there is no firm evidence of a Proto-Indo-European language though?

13 - You have been massively lied to - Kurgan History Part 1
The level of deception you have been subjected to is absurdly huge.
Several topics are discussed.
The new genetic narrative of the Kurgan hypothesis: Some problems
The canonical Indo-European model, which was originally a purely linguistic one, is founded on a central assumption: that of an original people (Urvolk in German), who inhabited an original homeland (Urheimat) where they spoke an original language (Ursprache). They left this homeland to spread progressively throughout a large part of Eurasia, giving rise through the process of scissiparity to all of the historically known Indo-European languages and to the peoples who spoke, or still speak, them. In fact, the Kurgan hypothesis, the most popular one, lacks real archaeological proofs. Nevertheless, palaeogenetics was recently supposed to bring new proofs of a massive migration from the steppes to North-Western Europe. A new narrative try now to bridge the gap between archaeology and genetics...
A captivating overview of the origins and characteristics of the Proto-Indo-Europeans, as well as theories regarding how they managed to spread through Europe and Asia. A new theory of the origins of the language released in July 2023 is also discussed and challenged.

How Indo-European Languages Evolved
The origin of Indo-European languages has long been a topic of debate among scholars and scientists. In 2012, a team of evolutionary biologists at the University of Auckland led by Dr. Quentin Atkinson released a study that found all modern IE languages could be traced back to a single root: Anatolian — the language of Anatolia, now modern-day Turkey.

The Royal Kurgan or Tsarskiy Kurgan from the 4th century BC, is one of the most impressive tumuli (kurgans) of eastern Crimea. It is assumed that the Royal Kurgan, was the final resting place of a ruler of the Bosporan Kingdom. This was founded in the 5th century BC from the Greek colonies in the northern Black Sea region and at the Sea of Azov. The kurgan could have been the tomb of Leukon of Bosporus. This enigmatic burial site Has a remarkable construction, characterized by a towering mound and intricate burial chamber. Its roof was built using the corbelled vault technique. What is interesting about this megalithic structure is that it reminds me of the Grand Gallery from the pyramid of Khufu. Independently most likely, the architects who created these projects chose similar op...

Independently most likely, the architects who created these projects chose similar options for the roof construction technique to make the roof capable of holding a large mass. Both rooms probably were meant to facilitate the transition to the afterlife of the deceased and both give a feeling of claustrophobia and mysterious uneasiness.

From Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones to Terry Pratchett's Discworld, most fantasy novels, films, television series and computer games take place in a broadly similar landscape. We examine the possible origin of what might not inaptly be termed the 'Magic Realm'.

A new narrative try now to bridge the gap between archaeology and genetics. But is the traditional canonical model the only possible one ?

The origin of Indo-European languages has long been a topic of debate among scholars and scientists. In 2012, a team of evolutionary biologists at the University of Auckland led by Dr. Quentin Atkinson released a study that found all modern IE languages could be traced back to a single root: Anatolian — the language of Anatolia, now modern-day Turkey.

Do you remember a film called Highlander? Highlander is a British fantasy action picture directed by Russell Mulcahy and based on a Gregory Widen story released in 1986. Through intertwined historical and present-day tales, the film depicts the finale of an age-old struggle between immortal warriors with Connor Macleod as the primary protagonist. However, this video is not about him.
The Kurgan, Connor's arch-enemy is the focus of this video. He was a barbarian with a sour disposition who had a horrible habit of beheading press reporters. In his mission to slay the surviving immortals, Kurgan was shown to be a menacing madman. This character is evil to the bone – in this video, we will break down his life and evil deeds – Keep Watching!

When researching ancient history you often stumble upon images that really get your attention, and the Royal Kurgan of eastern Crimea is a truly breathtaking example of burial mound from the 4th century BC.
It’s located in present-day Kerch, which developed out of the ancient Greek town of Panticapaeum, part of the Bosporan Kingdom, which was founded by the Milesians; Miletus being the ancient Greek city of western Anatolia.
There are close to 200 burial mounds in and around Kerch and the Royal Kurgan is located around 5 km northeast of the town centre, a beautiful piece of history as well as a major tourist attraction for the town.
Royal Kurgan is 20 metres high and the perimeter of the base is 250 metres. Watch this video to learn more about this incredible ancient structure and why the Royal Kurgan is a magnificent ancient wonder.
