Japanese Occupation of Korea and World War 2 || Animated History
This video present the history of painful relationship between South Korea and Japan since the early 20th century:
Joseon Korea came under the Japanese sphere of influence in 1876 and a complex coalition of the Meiji government, military, and business officials began a process of Korea's political and economic integration into Japan. The Japanese had established the Korean Peninsula as an overseas colony of Japan administered by the General Government based in Keijō (Gyeongseong) which governed Korea with near-absolute power. Japanese rule prioritized Korea's Japanization, accelerating industrialization started by the Gwangmu Reform, building public works, and fighting the Korean independence movement. After the annexation, Japan set out to repress Korean traditions and culture, and to de...

How did The Empire of Japan annex Korea?
The Japan-Korea Treaty was a significant point in relations between the two nations and was signed back in 1876 as Korea began its pull away from China. The goal was to grant Japan new trade rights with Korea, opening three ports and also giving Japanese nationals in Korea extraterritorial rights. From that point on, slowly, Japan gained more and more control over Korea until the full annexation

What Japan DOESN'T Want You To Know About Their Korean Invasion
In 1894-5 Japan defeated China in the First Sino-Japanese War. With that victory the Japanese had hoped that Korea, a territory that had been giving tribute to China for centuries, would fall under it's control. It didn't, because Imperial Russia had military and economic interests in Korea that it was willing to go to war to defend. So, in 1904-1905, Japan and Russia went to war, partly over the question of who would be the dominant power in Korea. To the shock of almost everyone except the Japanese, Russia was defeated, and in the Treaty of Portsmouth which ended the war and which won American president Theodore Roosevelt the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in sponsoring and hammering out the treaty, Japan was recognized as having control over Korea, though no one asked the Koreans about ...

Korea under Japanese rule 1910-1945
In the late 1800s, Japan began exerting influence over Korea. Both Korea (Joseon) and Japan had initially embraced isolationist policies, with Joseon functioning as a tributary state of Qing China. However, the Perry Expedition of 1854 forcibly opened Japan to the world, leading to its rapid modernization during the Meiji Restoration. Despite this, Joseon resisted foreign attempts to open up. In 1876, Japan succeeded in opening Korea through the unequal Japan–Korea Treaty.
Following this, Japan engaged in a series of actions to strengthen its hold on Korea. This included defeating local rivals, securing alliances with Western powers, and intervening in events such as the Donghak Peasant Revolution. After the victory over China in the First Sino–Japanese War (1894–1895), Joseon nominally g...

The Legacy of Japan's Occupation of Korea
Japan's occupation of Korea from 1910 to 1945 profoundly impacted the Korean peninsula's socio-political landscape. Initiated under duress, the annexation dismantled the Korean monarchy and enforced cultural assimilation. Economic exploitation and resistance movements characterized this period, culminating in Korea's independence post-World War II. The legacy of this occupation continues to influence Japan-Korea relations, with unresolved historical grievances shaping contemporary diplomacy.

Japanese rule prioritized Korea's Japanization, accelerating industrialization started by the Gwangmu Reform, building public works, and fighting the Korean independence movement. After the annexation, Japan set out to repress Korean traditions and culture, and to develop and implement policies primarily for the Japanese benefit. Its officials constructed European-styled transport and communication networks across the nation in order to extract resources and labor. This infrastructure was mostly destroyed later during the Korean War.
Japanese rule over Korea ended on 15 August 1945 upon the Surrender of Japan in World War II and the armed forces of the United States and the Soviet Union occupied the territory. The Division of Korea separated the Korean Peninsula under two governments and economic systems with the northern Soviet Civil Administration and the southern United States Army Military Government in Korea.
During World War II, Koreans at home joined or were forced to support the Japanese war effort. Hundreds of thousands of men were conscripted into Japan's military. Around 200,000 girls and women, many from China and Korea, were forced into sexual slavery for Japanese soldiers, with the euphemism "comfort women". In the early 21st century, former Korean "comfort women" have continued to protest to the Japanese Government and have sought compensation for their sufferings during the war.

Korea from 1910-WWII
As we've said before on this channel, we've got nothing against the Japanese people or government of today, or since 1945, but it's important to know that there are parts of Japanese history that are downplayed or even completely ignored in Japanese textbooks, and that's not right. The United States government has played a role in this too, as you know from watching our other videos. After WWII, the USA, while dominating Japan, was still wary of alienating its people, for it needed Japan as an outpost against the Soviet Union and Communist China in Asia, and so the history of the Japanese occupation of Korea is little known outside of the Korean peninsula and China.

Today's Daily Dose short history film covers Japan's occupation of Korea, which lasted from 1910 to 1945. The filmmaker has included the original voice over script to further assist your understanding:
Today on The Daily Dose, Japan’s Occupation of Korea
Dating back as early as 1592, the Empire of Japan made repeated and quite dogged attempts to invade the sovereign nation of Korea, finally achieving their goal on August 22nd, 1910, when Japan announced their “annexation” of Korea to the outside world. In the name of establishing control over Japan’s latest imperial possession, Japanese authorities waged an all-out war on every aspect of Korean culture, forbidding the use of the Korean language in schools, universities and public places, while outlawing the use of non-approved textbooks that taught the truth about Korean history dating as far back as 2333 BC. The Japanese also burned over 200,000 historical documents in an attempt to wipe the nation’s history from the collective memory of a generation of Koreans.
To further the insult, soon after occupation began, the Japanese tore down a third of the royal palace that had stood in Seoul since 1395, turning the remaining structure into a tourist attraction for visiting Japanese. They also transformed the Korean landscape by felling millions of trees, replacing them with non-native species until the land had been transformed into something Koreans no longer recognized. As World War Two loomed ever closer, hundreds of thousands of Koreans were forced to work in Japanese factories, while hundreds of thousands of Korean women were forced into sexual slavery as comfort women, who served against their will in military brothels for homesick Japanese soldiers.
Despite Korea’s years of cultural genocide, resistance to Japanese rule continued to show its face with periodic bouts of protests, including the 1919 March First Movement, when more than 1,500 simultaneous protests broke out across the country in the name of Korean independence, which led to their brutal suppression by Japanese military forces. Years after Korea’s 1945 liberation by U.S. and Soviet forces, during the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, an NBC commentator noted how Korea’s transformation into a thriving First World economy was due to the “cultural, technological and economic example” of Japan, reopening old wounds for a generation of Koreans, leading to an apology petition signed by tens of thousands of South Koreans, making the Japanese occupation of Korea, yet another blatant stain on the age of imperialism.
And there you have it, Japan’s occupation of Korea, today on The Daily Dose.

After the victory over China in the First Sino–Japanese War (1894–1895), Joseon nominally gained independence and declared the short-lived Korean Empire. Japan further solidified its regional dominance by defeating Russia in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904–1905.
With Korea now within its grasp, Japan took strategic steps to fully control the region. The Japan–Korea Treaty of 1905 established Korea as a protectorate, and indirect rule was implemented through the Japanese Resident-General. In 1907, Japan forced Korean Emperor Gojong to abdicate, paving the way for the formal colonization of Korea through the Japan–Korea Treaty of 1910. Throughout the colonial period, Korea was administered by the Governor-General of Chōsen, headquartered in Keijō (Seoul), until the eventual end of Japanese rule.

History of Korea
This video presents a quick history of Korea, a peninsula in East Asia, today home to two countries, North Korea and South Korea.
Chapter:
00:00 Introduction
00:26 Early History
01:25 Three Kingdoms of Korea
02:24 Goryeo and Joseon Dynasty
03:47 Korean Empire and Japanese Occupation
04:45 Division and Korea War
05:29 Modern Korea
In 2333 BCE, Gojoseon, the first Korean kingdom, was established in northern Korea, while the Jin state occupied the southern part of Korea by the 3rd century BC.
In 108 BCE, the Han Dynasty invaded the kingdom and installed four commanderies in northern Korea. Three of the commanderies fell within a few decades, except the Lelang Commandery.
The Three Kingdoms of Korea comprises Goguryeo, Silla, and Baekje. In the early 6th century, Silla’s power extended across the Korean Peninsula.
By the 640s, Silla allied with the Tang dynasty of China to conquer Baekje and later Goguryeo, unifying the central and southern parts of the Korean Peninsula into Unified Silla. Meanwhile, the northern part was under the control of Balhae, founded by King Go.
In 918, Goryeo was founded as the successor of Goguryeo, gradually unifying most of the Korean peninsula.
Following the Mongol invasions of Korea from 1230 to 1270, Goryeo existed as a vassal state and compulsory ally of the Mongol-ruled Yuan dynasty in China.
After a coup, General Yi Seong-gye overthrew the Goryeo dynasty and, in 1392, established the Joseon dynasty.
From 1592 to 1598, Joseon suffered from the great destruction of the Japanese invasions.
In the 19th century, Joseon adopted a harsh isolationist policy, for which it became known as the “Hermit Kingdom.” However, Joseon was soon forced to open its borders, leading to an era of Japanese imperial rule.
In 1897, the Joseon dynasty proclaimed the Korean Empire (1897–1910). In 1910, Japan formally annexed Korean Empire which was then officially named Chōsen.
After the end of World War II with the unconditional surrender of Japan, in 1945, Korea was partitioned along the 38th parallel with the north under Soviet occupation and the south under US occupation.
The politics of the Cold War resulted in the 1948 establishment of two sovereign states, North Korea, officially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, and South Korea, officially the Republic of Korea.
In 1950, the Korean War broke out when Soviet-backed North Korea invaded South Korea and ended without a formalized peace treaty. The Korean Peninsula remained divided by the Korean Demilitarized Zone up to the present day.
In 2018, the Panmunjom Declaration was signed between the Supreme Leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, and the President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in, announcing that they would work to officially end the Korean long-lasting conflict.
Is there any chance that North Korea and South Korea will be reunified into a single Korean sovereign state?

Japan's occupation of Korea from 1910 to 1945 profoundly impacted the Korean peninsula's socio-political landscape. Initiated under duress, the annexation dismantled the Korean monarchy and enforced cultural assimilation. Economic exploitation and resistance movements characterized this period, culminating in Korea's independence post-World War II. The legacy of this occupation continues to influence Japan-Korea relations, with unresolved historical grievances shaping contemporary diplomacy.

Why Russia and North Korea can't quit each other (for now) | Mapped Out
Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin seem to be meeting each other's needs. Russia's leader reportedly has access to North Korean troops as well as ammunition for his full-scale war against Ukraine. And the North Korean leader has a backer who seems keen to evade international sanctions. The new bond could shift global geopolitics with China also in the mix. But what’s really driving Kim and Putin together: A shared vision, desperation, or something far more pragmatic?

Is Seoul To Blame For South Korea's Population Crisis? | Insight | Full Episode
South Korea's is facing a population crisis, with Seoul at the centre of it. The country’s capital remains the beneficiary of both internal and external migration. Instead, it is in the rural and peripheral areas where low birth rates and the aging population have become crises. The countryside is at risk of becoming extinct.
As more opportunities and people get concentrated in Seoul, urban pressures have led to rising unemployment and cost of living. And when things get expensive, people do not have babies. Seoul now has the lowest birthrate in South Korea, in a country with the world’s most dire fertility. On the other hand, farms and factories in the rural areas desperately need workers. How can South Korea solve this population puzzle?

AI Peppers tengah menghadapi situasi sulit setelah mengalami tiga kekalahan beruntun.

Why North Korea Worships the Kim Family
In late August of 1945, Stalin and the Soviet Union appointed Kim Il-sung to lead the new occupation government in the northern part of the Korean Peninsula after the Japanese surrender.
Stalin probably would have preferred a Soviet Korean to run things. But those people had little familiarity with the Korean nation and Kim came highly recommended by his fellow guerrillas.
Over time, Kim Il-sung would purge his enemies, remove any challenge to his power, and center society completely around him. In this video, we look at how the Democratic People's Republic of Korea constructed a cult of personality around its founding father and his family.

U.S. could deploy two B-52 bombers to S. Korea this week: Military sources
美 전략폭격기 B-52 주중 한국 첫 착륙
Washington reportedly plans to dispatch B-52 strato-fortress from Guam as a further warning to Pyongyang to stop its provocative acts.
Kim Hyun-bin fills us in on the follow up to last week's B-1B bombers appearance in the peninsula.
The U.S. could deploy two B-52 bombers to its Osan Air Base just south of Seoul this week... as a show of force in response to the regime's latest nuclear test.
Military sources say the U.S. is looking into the possibility of landing the bombers at Osan, which would mark the first time a U.S. strategic bomber has touched down on the peninsula.
Washington has previously dispatched B-52 bombers to Korea -- for example, after the North's fourth nuclear test in February -- but those were only flyovers.
The sources added that there is th...

BTS (Korean: 방탄소년단; RR: Bangtan Sonyeondan), also known as the Bangtan Boys, is a South Korean boy band that was formed in 2010 and debuted in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment.[5] The septet—consisting of members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook—co-writes and co-produces much of their own output.

The sources added that there is the additional possibility that the bombers could be stationed at the base for a few days.
The B-52 has an airborne range of up to 16-thousand kilometers and can carry 31 tons of explosives. That puts Pyongyang within range of a single round-trip mission.
The bombers are also equipped with bunker-buster bombs that could demolish enemy facilities underground.
Washington also plans to send a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the USS Ronald Reagan, to the peninsula early next month for a joint naval exercise with South Korea.

Originally a hip hop group, their musical style has evolved to include a wide range of genres. Their lyrics, often focused on personal and social commentary, touch on the themes of mental health, troubles of school-age youth and coming of age, loss, the journey towards loving oneself, and individualism. Their work also often references literature and psychological concepts and includes an alternative universe storyline.

After debuting in 2013 with their single album 2 Cool 4 Skool, BTS released their first Korean-language studio album, Dark & Wild, and Japanese-language studio album, Wake Up, in 2014. The group's second Korean studio album, Wings (2016), was their first to sell one million copies in South Korea. By 2017, BTS crossed into the global music market, leading the Korean Wave into the United States and breaking numerous sales records. They became the first Korean group to receive a certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for their single "Mic Drop", as well as the first Korean act to top the US Billboard 200 with their studio album Love Yourself: Tear (2018). BTS became one of the few groups since the Beatles to earn four US number-one albums in less than two years, and Love Yourself: Answer (2018) was the first Korean album certified platinum by the RIAA. In 2020, BTS became the first all-South Korean act to reach number one on the Billboard Global 200 and US Billboard Hot 100 with their Grammy-nominated single "Dynamite". Their follow-up releases "Savage Love", "Life Goes On", "Butter", and "Permission to Dance" made BTS the fastest act to accumulate five US number-one singles since Michael Jackson.
Having sold over 20 million albums on the Gaon Music Chart, BTS is the best-selling artist in South Korean history and holds the best-selling album in South Korea with Map of the Soul: 7. They are the first Asian and non-English speaking act to be named International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) Global Recording Artist of the Year (2020), to chart on Billboard's Top Touring Artists of the 2010s (placing at number 45), and to headline and sell out Wembley Stadium and Rose Bowl Stadium (Love Yourself World Tour in 2019). Featured on Time's international cover as "Next Generation Leaders" and dubbed "Princes of Pop", BTS has also appeared on the magazine's lists of the 25 most influential people on the internet (2017–2019) and the 100 most influential people in the world (2019). The group's numerous accolades include six American Music Awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, 24 Golden Disk Awards, and nominations for two Grammy Awards and a Brit Award. Outside of music, they partnered with UNICEF to establish the Love Myself anti-violence campaign, addressed three United Nations General Assemblies, and became the youngest ever recipients of the Order of Cultural Merit from the President of South Korea due to their contributions in spreading Korean culture and language.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
