The Best of Elgar
Sir Edward William Elgar, 1st Baronet OM GCVO (2 June 1857 – 23 February 1934) was an English composer, many of whose works have entered the British and international classical concert repertoire. Sir Edward William Elgar, 1st Baronet OM GCVO (2 June 1857 – 23 February 1934) was an English composer, many of whose works have entered the British and international classical concert repertoire. Among his best-known compositions are orchestral works including the Enigma Variations, the Pomp and Circumstance Marches, concertos for violin and cello, and two symphonies. He also composed choral works, including The Dream of Gerontius, chamber music and songs. He was appointed Master of the King's Musick in 1924.
Although Elgar is often regarded as a typically English composer, most of his musical influences were not from England but from continental Europe. He felt himself to be an outsider, not only musically, but socially. In musical circles dominated by academics, he was a self-taught composer; in Protestant Britain, his Roman Catholicism was regarded with suspicion in some quarters; and in the class-conscious society of Victorian and Edwardian Britain, he was acutely sensitive about his humble origins even after he achieved recognition. He nevertheless married the daughter of a senior British army officer. She inspired him both musically and socially, but he struggled to achieve success until his forties, when after a series of moderately successful works his Enigma Variations (1899) became immediately popular in Britain and overseas. He followed the Variations with a choral work, The Dream of Gerontius (1900), based on a Roman Catholic text that caused some disquiet in the Anglican establishment in Britain, but it became, and has remained, a core repertory work in Britain and elsewhere. His later full-length religious choral works were well received but have not entered the regular repertory.
In his fifties, Elgar composed a symphony and a violin concerto that were immensely successful. His second symphony and his cello concerto did not gain immediate public popularity and took many years to achieve a regular place in the concert repertory of British orchestras. Elgar's music came, in his later years, to be seen as appealing chiefly to British audiences. His stock remained low for a generation after his death. It began to revive significantly in the 1960s, helped by new recordings of his works. Some of his works have, in recent years, been taken up again internationally, but the music continues to be played more in Britain than elsewhere.
Elgar has been described as the first composer to take the gramophone seriously. Between 1914 and 1925, he conducted a series of acoustic recordings of his works. The introduction of the moving-coil microphone in 1923 made far more accurate sound reproduction possible, and Elgar made new recordings of most of his major orchestral works and excerpts from The Dream of Gerontius.

Obra.-Salut d'Amour Op.12
Autor.- Edward William Elgar.

It was Elgar's Enigma Variations that made his name as a composer, at the age of forty-two. Today, Enigma is widely seen as the first real musicial masterpiece to emerge in Britain since the dead of Henry Purcell two centuries earlier. In the manuscript score the word "Enigma" is written over the original theme, with its contrasted strains of major and minor. Elgar later said that this theme represented "the loneliness of the creative artist", and one may assume that it therefore represents Elgar himself. He also said there was "another and larger theme" which "goes" through and over the whole set but is not played. Whether this second theme is a popular melody or a symbolic idea such as friendship has never been established and probably never will be.
First performed in London in June 1899 and conducted by Hans Richter, Elgar dedicated the Variations "to my friends pictured within," and they form an irresistible sequence of character studies, culminating in the composer's rousing, assured self-portrait - as though he were telling those friends, "See what you have made of me.". But Elgar also confessed that the music contained a "dark saving", adding that the theme itself expressed his enduring sense of the "loneliness of the artist". So like many of Elgar's finest works, Enigma reveals two very different personae: the robust, brimming confidence of the self-made English gentleman and the restless, melancholic introspection of the outsider. Thet Elgar gentleman and the restless, melancholic introspections of the outsider. That Elgar was truly both is one of the aspects of his music that makes him fascinating. That is not the whole story: Enigma is also about warmth of feeling, tunefulness, and lively humor, and even - an unashionable word today - Nobility.
At the end of an overlong day laden with teaching and other duties, Edward Elgar lit a cigar, sat at his piano and began idling over the keys. To amuse his wife, the composer began to improvise a tune and played it several times, turning each reprise into a caricature of the way one of their friends might have played it or of their personal characteristics. "I believe that you are doing something which has never been done before," exclaimed Mrs. Elgar. Thus was born one of music's great works of original conception, and Elgar's greatest large-scale "hit": the Enigma Variations. The enigma is twofold: each of the 14 variations refers to a friend of Elgar's, who is depicted by the nature of the music, or by sonic imitation of laughs, vocal inflections, or quirks, or by more abstract allusions. The other enigma is the presence of a larger "unheard" theme which is never stated but which according to the composer is very well known. The identity of the phantom tune left the world with the composer, and guesses have ranged from "God Save the King" to a simple major scale.
This apparatus aside, the variations contain some of the most charming and deeply felt music Elgar ever penned, more than redeeming the work from the status of mere gimmickry. The main theme is hesitating, lean and haunting, and is reprised with the passionate first variation that represents Caroline, the composer's wife, a constant source of encouragement and inspiration.

Jacek Ambrosiewicz never truly understood why he was called "talented but lazy" by his teachers, parents, and colleagues. When he was in his twenties, he was diagnosed with ADHD and Autism, and many things started to make sense.
Jacek Ambrosiewicz never truly understood why he was called "talented but lazy" by his teachers, parents, and colleagues. When he was in his twenties, he was diagnosed with ADHD and Autism, and many things started to make sense. Jacek began therapy, learned how to use his brain for creativity, and built a career as a marketeer in companies like Ubisoft and Netflix. Afraid of social stigma, Jacek decided to hide this part of himself from the world for a long time. One day he stopped hiding and started the Mental Health ERG in the office. Last year, Jacek quit his job to promote Mental Health D&I by public speaking and creating A Typical Notion podcast. Just to stop people calling their close ones "talented but lazy." Plac Centralny będzie najważniejszym elementem Nowego Centrum Warszawy. Przebudowa pl. Defilad rozpoczęła się w 2023 roku. Przed Pałacem Kultury i Nauki powstaje zielona przestrzeń - miejsce spotkań, odpoczynku i organizacji wydarzeń kulturalnych. Posadzonych zostanie tu ponad 100 drzew oraz kilka tysięcy krzewów, bylin i kwiatów. Będą ławki i niska sadzawka. W trakcie prowadzonych prac zostały odkryte unikalne fragmenty bruku i dawnej zabudowy: pozostałości kamienic, oryginalna nawierzchnia bazaltowa, torowisko tramwajowe na dawnej ul. LYRICS
She’s broken up with him inside her head
She’s just waiting for the moment, that precious moment to let him know
Sharing make-up with a stranger in unfamiliar beds
It’s good for me, I’m sure
I’m sure it’s good for me
I thought
I’d do anything you ask of me, that’s sure
What for?
My fingers pressed until they’re sore, it’s so
You said
It’s crazy we used to do this sober
You wake up and thank god it’s over
Just please just let me go
The place that she got her first kiss is now a vaccination clinic
(Warsaw)
Sat around a new Smeg fridge singing “We’re all so apathetic”
(Warsaw)
Smiling, laughing, watching movies
Lying, spread-out floral duvets
(Warsaw)
Looks at you with earnest grace and says “The fuck it is we’re doing?”
(Warsaw)
Looks at you with earnest grace and says “The fuck it is we’re doing?”
I hate to say I told you but your habits wreck your head
If not for fear of deep-vein thrombosis I’d be there too I guess
She just smiles at me then waits a bit, like guillotine she says
“Sometimes home is a cigarette
You’re too straight-edge to get it.”
I’d do anything you ask of me, that’s sure
What for
My fingers pressed until they’re sore, it’s so
You said
It’s crazy we used to do this sober
You wake up and thank god it’s over
Just please just let me go

(Warsaw)
What do you want me to say?
"It doesn’t get any better
You can try and try
But you're just a cog in the machine
Apathy comforts me like a cell
Comforts in inmates
It won’t get better, I assure you
Make no mistake
We're all gonna end up in the dark
I'll be seeing you soon"
She hopes to God that I just choke
She hopes to God that I just choke
She hopes to God that I just choke
And it gets a little easier
She hopes to God that I just choke
She hopes to God that I just choke
She hopes to God that I just choke

Architektura będzie nawiązywać do sąsiadujących budynków z czasów PRL, tworząc nowoczesną dominantę w centrum miasta.
The Golden Star Group (owner of the LIM Center) is planning to build a new skyscraper on Chałubińskiego Street in Warsaw, which is to become another monumental element of the Warsaw landscape. The skyscraper, which will reach a height of 193 meters, will be built on the corner of Aleje Jerozolimskie and Chałubińskiego Street, in the immediate vicinity of the Central Railway Station. The design was prepared by the renowned architectural studio APA Wojciechowski, and the building will offer office space, hotel space and apartments. The architecture will refer to the neighboring buildings from the times of the Polish People's Republic, creating a modern dominant in the city center.
The decision to build the skyscraper was made after years of preparations, and the investment has already obtained a building permit. The building will be adjacent to the renovated former Marriott Hotel, currently known as the Warsaw Presidential Hotel. Interestingly, plans to build the skyscraper have existed for over 15 years. Initially, the skyscraper was to be 260 meters high and was designed by the famous architect Zaha Hadid. Changes in the project, as well as delays caused by the 2008 financial crisis, led to its modification.

Warszawa / Warsaw - trwają prace / work in progress - aktualizacja / update - 07.10.2024
Plac Centralny będzie najważniejszym elementem Nowego Centrum Warszawy. Przebudowa pl. Defilad rozpoczęła się w 2023 roku. Przed Pałacem Kultury i Nauki powstaje zielona przestrzeń - miejsce spotkań, odpoczynku i organizacji wydarzeń kulturalnych. Posadzonych zostanie tu ponad 100 drzew oraz kilka tysięcy krzewów, bylin i kwiatów. Będą ławki i niska sadzawka. W trakcie prowadzonych prac zostały odkryte unikalne fragmenty bruku i dawnej zabudowy: pozostałości kamienic, oryginalna nawierzchnia bazaltowa, torowisko tramwajowe na dawnej ul. W trakcie budowy Pałacu w całości zniknęła ulica Wielka, biegnąca równolegle do Marszałkowskiej.
Central Square will be the most important element of the New Center of Warsaw. Reconstruction of the square The parade began in 2023. A green space is being created in front of the Palace of Culture and Science - a place for meetings, rest and organization of cultural events. Over 100 trees and several thousand shrubs, perennials and flowers will be planted here. There will be benches and a low pond. During the works, unique fragments of pavement and old buildings were discovered: remains of tenement houses, original basalt surface, tram tracks on the former street. Złota, as well as granite curbs. In the place where construction is underway, there are (even two meters below the current ground level) the remains of the street. Chmielna, Złota, Sienna, Śliska, Pańska, Zielna and part of Marszałkowska. During the construction of the Palace, Wielka Street, running parallel to Marszałkowska, completely disappeared. During archaeological works, among others, were discovered: coins, perfume and medicine bottles, buttons and jewelry. They can be seen at a special exhibition entitled "On the way to the square."
On June 3, 2023, the construction of Central Square in Warsaw began, which will replace Plac Defilad in front of the Palace of Culture and Science. The author of the design of the new square is the A-A Collective architectural studio. In 2024, trees and lawns with a total area of several thousand square meters will appear in front of the main entrance to the Palace of Culture and Science. Paving surfaces made of six different types of stone are intended to resemble the layout of ancient streets, and lawns with a total area of over 3.3 thousand square meters. m2 will have the outlines of pre-war tenement houses.
At the very entrance to the square, from Marszałkowska Street and the newly built Museum of Modern Art, there will be a pond with an area of 140 m², which will be covered with white marble. Its form will reflect the shape of one of the historic courtyards of demolished tenement houses. More than 100 trees will be planted on the new square, including black locusts, ashes, gledicias, dogwoods, ginkgo trees, ginkgo trees and magnolias.
There will be over 40 benches, chairs, square multi-person benches and semi-circular seats around the trees. The stone honorary tribune will be dismantled and, after cleaning, reassembled, but in a new location, closer to Marszałkowska Street.

Warsaw – The capital of Poland stands today as the product of some of history’s most defining events. Follow us through the city and see all the best spots to visit here.
When ready, browse vacation packages to Warsaw: https://www.expedia.com/Warsaw.d178317.Destination-Travel-Guides
For centuries #Warsaw has been a center of refinement and knowledge. Its strategic position has also made it one of the most invaded countries in Europe. Your #vacation here will bring you up close to the sites of these historic events in the Old Town and across Warsaw’s many monuments to the past.
Enjoy more historical sites along the Royal Route. Visit St Johns Cathedral and St Anne’s Church, whose interior miraculously survived the war. One of the few statues not destroyed by the German army is the mermaid Syrena, the symbol and protector of Warsaw.
Keep apace of the city’s stories at the many museums here. Visit the Palace of Culture and Science and the Copernicus Science Centre. Don’t miss Wilanow Palace, with luxurious artworks and formal gardens.
Since the fall of the Iron Curtain, Poland’s economy has boomed, reflected in the luxury malls, such as Zlote Tarasy and the VITKAC Department store.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.
