Al Martino (born Jasper Cini; October 7, 1927 – October 13, 2009) was an Americansinger and actor. He had his greatest success as a singer between the early 1950s and mid-1970s, being described as "one of the great Italian American popcrooners", and also became well known as an actor, particularly for his role as singer Johnny Fontane in The Godfather.
Early life
Jasper "Al" Cini was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The name Jasper was an anglicisation of his father's name, Gasparino. His parents were immigrants from Abruzzo, Italy, who ran a construction business, and while growing up he worked alongside his brothers as a bricklayer. He was inspired to become a singer by emulating artists such as Al Jolson and Perry Como, and by the success of a family friend, Alfredo Cocozza, who had changed his name to Mario Lanza.
Career
After serving with the United States Marine Corps in World War II, during which he was part of, and injured in, the Iwo Jima invasion, Cini began his singing career. Encouraged by Lanza, he adopted the stage name Al Martino—based on the name of his good friend Lorraine Cianfrani (née Losavio)'s husband Alfred Martin Cianfrani—and began singing in local nightclubs. In 1948 he moved to New York City, recorded some sides for the Jubilee label, and in 1952 won first place on Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scoutstelevision program with a performance of Como's hit "If".
"Do You Remember" is the debut single released from Australian singer-song writer Jarryd James. The song was written and produced by Jarryd James and Joel Little (who had previously worked with Broods and Lorde). It was released digitally on 30 January 2015. "Do You Remember" debuted at number 44 on the ARIA Singles Chart and peaked at number 2 in its fifth week on the chart. It peaked at number 1 on the AIR chart.
A black and white video was released on YouTube on 8 March 2015.
Reviews
Mike Wass from Idolator said: "'Do You Remember' is a winning mix of R&B and eerie electronica. It's a refreshingly original sound, but there's an undeniable pop sensibility that still makes it palatable to radio programmers and, as it turns out, the general public."
Chris from Indie Music Filters said: "[Do You Remember] feels like a tastefully subdued cousin of AWOLNation's hit 'Sail', plucked strings and deliberate percussion building to an excellent chorus."
The song was released to U.S. radio stations on 20 October 2009 and released as a digital download on iTunes on 3 November 2009. It is Sean's second single to enter the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100, making him the first male act since Chingy in 2003 to "simultaneously appear in the Hot 100 top 10 with his first two charting singles." The single has sold more than a million digital copies in the United States alone. It was later released in the UK on 22 February 2010.
The song was also featured at the start of the 2010 film remake of The Karate Kid.
Background
Speaking in February 2010 to noted UK R&B writer Pete Lewis of the award-winning Blues & Soul, Jay explained the background to the track:

LYRICS
Nothing's quite as pretty as Mary in the morning
When through a sleepy haze I see her lying there
Soft as the rain that falls on summer flowers
Warm as the sunlight shining on her golden hair
When I awake and see her there so close beside me
I want to take her in my arms, the ache is there so deep inside me
And nothing's quite as pretty as Mary in the morning
Chasing a rainbow in her dreams so far away
And when she turns to touch me, I kiss her face so softly
Then my Mary wakes to love another day
And Mary's there in sunny days or stormy weather
She doesn't care 'cause right or wrong the love we share, we share together
And nothing's quite as pretty as Mary in ...

You always hurt the one you love The one you shouldn't hurt at all you always take the sweetest rose And crush it until the petals fall You always break the kindest heart with a hasty word you can't recall So if I broke your heart last night I'ts because I love you most of all You always brak the kindest heart With a hasty word you can't recall So if I broke your heart last night It's because I love you most of all It's because I love you most of all
