Who is an IDP (Internally Displaced Person)?
Internally displaced people (IDPs) have not crossed a border to find safety. Unlike refugees, they are on the run at home. IDPs stay within their own country and remain under the protection of its government, even if that government is the reason for their displacement. They often move to areas where it is difficult for us to deliver humanitarian assistance and as a result, these people are among the most vulnerable in the world.

Child Refugee Puppet Little Amal Spreads Awareness for Displaced Worldwide | Artbound | PBS SoCal
Little Amal is a giant puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl searching around the world for a home. During her tour in Southern California, she learned American Sign Language (ASL) with the cast of Deaf West Theatre in Pasadena to communicate with audiences through silence. The collaboration aims to inspire hope and solidarity for displaced people worldwide. In Los Angeles, Little Amal symbolizes the story that many Angelenos can relate to as part of a city of immigrants and refugees.
As Little Amal connects with people worldwide, celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) and the importance of making the world accessible for all.

We are suffering from a PLAY deficit as a global society, and nowhere is that more profoundly felt than in the lives of GENERATION D: the almost 35 million DISPLACED children in the world. Through her personal stories of travel and connection, Jennifer provides insight into the daily struggles of these kids and shows us why PLAY isn’t just for fun…..but is necessary for healing, skill building, and survival.
Jennifer MacDonald is a career teacher, traveler, activist, and proud mother of two grown children. She has a Master’s Degree in Arabic Language and Culture and speaks several other languages including Spanish and Portuguese. In 2010, she established one of the first Arabic language programs for high school students in the Southeast. In 2014, she co-founded HADAYA, an organization that provides libraries and developmental toys to displaced children in several countries. Jennifer is also an award-winning film producer and writer who still loves to play. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

The USC Dornsife Center for Advanced Genocide Research presents this public lecture by Danielle Willard-Kyle (PhD candidate in History, Rutgers University), the Center's 2018-2019 Center Graduate Research Fellow, presented at the University of Southern California on April 16, 2019.

This lecture examines the afterlives of the Italian Jewish displaced persons' camps, both as physical places still present today and as spaces that persist in personal memory. By analyzing interviews as in the Visual History Archive, memoirs, case studies, and testimonies, Danielle Willard-Kyle will explore moments of contrast between past and present narratives, questioning the roles of memory and nostalgia in describing one's own experiences and conveying these to a broader audience.

The U.S. Navy's aircraft carrier battle groups are distributed all over the world. One battle group can fight against the navy of a medium-sized country. How strong is the U.S. military's multi-line combat capability? The U.S. Air Force is the world's number one air force. The U.S. Navy is the world's second air force. The U.S. Army is also world-class. Does the current U.S. military have the ability to fight against multiple countries at the same time?
