James Travis "Jim" Reeves (August 20, 1923 – July 31, 1964) was an American country and popular music singer-songwriter. With records charting from the 1950s to the 1980s, he became well known as a practitioner of the Nashville sound (a mixture of older country-style music with elements of popular music). Known as "Gentleman Jim", his songs continued to chart for years after his death. Reeves died in the crash of a private airplane. He is a member of both the Country Music and Texas Country Music Halls of Fame.
Reeves was born in Galloway, Texas, a small rural community near Carthage. Winning an athletic scholarship to the University of Texas, he enrolled to study speech and drama, but quit after only six weeks to work in the shipyards in Houston. Soon he resumed baseball, playing in the semi-professional leagues before contracting with the St. Louis Cardinals "farm" team during 1944 as a right-handed pitcher. He played for the minor leagues for three years before severing his sciatic nerve while pitching, which ended his athletic career.
Dear Heart is a 1964 American romantic comedy film starring Glenn Ford and Geraldine Page as lonely middle-aged people who fall in love at a hotel convention. It was directed by Delbert Mann, from a screenplay by Tad Mosel. Its theme song, "Dear Heart", was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Evie Jackson (Geraldine Page) is a middle-aged, single postmaster from Ohio who is attending a postmasters' convention at a New York City hotel. Outgoing, honest, and somewhat tactless, she has many friends but pines for a romantic relationship, one that will be more meaningful than the flings she has had with married conventioneers in previous years. She uses various means to make herself feel less lonely and more important, such as sending herself a welcome message and having herself paged in the hotel lobby.
Harry Mork (Glenn Ford) is a womanizing former traveling salesman for a greeting card company, who now wishes to settle down. Harry has accepted a promotion to an office job in New York City, and has gotten engaged to Phyllis (Angela Lansbury), a middle-aged widowed housewife from Altoona, Pennsylvania. Harry is staying alone in the same hotel as Evie while he starts his new job and finds an apartment, where Phyllis, who is still back in Altoona, will later join him. While Harry is checking in, Phyllis's son Patrick (Michael Anderson, Jr.) suddenly arrives, seeking to bond with his new father. Harry is surprised to find that Patrick is not the young boy he had expected based on a photograph, but instead is an 18-year-old bohemian with a beard (which, it is later revealed, got him expelled from school). Harry is mildly annoyed by Patrick's unexpected arrival and embarrassed by his casual attitude towards women, sex and nudity, particularly after Patrick moves into Harry's hotel room with his purportedly platonic female friend, Émile Zola Bernkrand (Joanna Crawford).
"Dear Heart" is a song written by Henry Mancini, Ray Evans, and Jay Livingston and performed by Andy Williams. The song reached #2 on the U.S. adult contemporary chart and #24 on the Billboard chart in 1964. It appears on the 1965 Andy Williams album, Andy Williams' Dear Heart.
The song was the theme to the 1964 movie Dear Heart. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song and also nominated for best song at the 22nd Golden Globe Awards.
Henry Mancini released a version of the song in 1964 that reached #14 on the adult contemporary chart and #77 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Jack Jones also released a version in 1964, reaching #6 on the adult contemporary chart and #30 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In the UK, there were cover versions issued by Ronnie Hilton and Ronnie Carroll.
Frank Sinatra recorded the song for his 1964 album Softly, as I Leave You.
Andy Williams' Dear Heart is an album by American pop singer Andy Williams that was released in the spring of 1965 by Columbia Records. It made its first appearance on Billboard magazine's Top LP's chart in the issue dated April 10 of that year and remained on the album chart for 65 weeks, peaking at number four. The name of the album was changed to Andy Williams' Almost There for its release in the UK, where it became Williams's first album chart entry, spending 46 weeks there and peaking at number four. (Two of his previous albums, Days of Wine and Roses and Other TV Requests—which was retitled Can't Get Used to Losing You and Other Requests for its UK release—and The Great Songs from "My Fair Lady" and Other Broadway Hits, appeared on the album chart in the UK following the success of this album.)
Andy Williams' Dear Heart received Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America on July 30, 1965. This was Williams's sixth album to receive this award as well as the one to do so the fastest thus far in terms of the amount of time between chart debut and certification, having accomplished this feat in less than four months as compared to the previous recordholder, Days of Wine and Roses and Other TV Requests, which did so in five months.

When you are gone
There's no fun with the crowd
I find myself crying
Even crying out loud
I could find fun
But I'd still be alone
'Cause my world simply stands still
When you are gone
When you are gone
My heart knows it well
And it just won't believe
These stories I tell
Just can't get used to
This being alone
And there's nothing to live for
When you are gone
When you are gone
My heart knows it well
And it just won't believe
All these stories I tell
Just can't get used to
This being alone
And there's nothing to live for
