Daniel Gonzalez (1980 – 9 August 2007), also known as the Freddy Krueger Killer and the Mummy's Boy Killer, was a spree killer who killed four people and injured two others during two days across London and Sussex in September 2004. His mother had previously written a letter to her MP criticising the fact that a serious incident had to occur before he could receive mental help. In her letter, she rhetorically asked "...does my son have to commit murder to get help?".
Gonzalez was inspired by horror films such as A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th to become a "famous serial killer". He went on a drug-fuelled stabbing spree, attacking the elderly and infirm, writing about his experiences in letters to himself as Zippy, his past nickname. His letters said how much he enjoyed the murders "...one of the best things I've done in my life", and how similar he was to Freddy Krueger.
On September 15, 2004, Daniel Francis Gonzalez told 61-year-old Peter King, who was walking his dog with his wife in Hilsea, Portsmouth, that he was going to kill him. He was fought off and fled to Hove where he stabbed 76-year-old Marie Harding while wearing a hockey mask. After this, he returned to his home in Woking. He concluded that the reason for his failure to kill King was because his knife was too small.
Daniel González is a retired Argentine association football goalkeeper who played professionally in Argentina and the United States. He is the goalkeeper coach for Chivas USA.
In 1975, González began playing with Colegio La Salle Rosario, an Argentinian club composed of students and alumni of La Salle Rosario. In 1979, he turned professional with Rosario Central. In 1982, González moved to the United States to sign with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the North American Soccer League where he served as an unused backup in league games. In 1988, he joined the Memphis Storm of the American Indoor Soccer Association. In 1989, he moved to the Canton Invaders. During the 1989-1990 season, he served as a player-coach with the Invaders. He then returned to Memphis, now known as the Memphis Rogues and playing in the USISL. He remained with Memphis until his retirement in 1996. At that time, the team was known as the Jackals. 1998-1999 Colorado Rapids (assistant)
Daniel is a masculine given name and a surname of Hebrew origin. It means, "God is my judge", and derives from two early biblical figures, primary among them Daniel from the Book of Daniel. It is a common given name for males, and is also used as a surname. It is also the basis for various derived given names and surnames.
The name evolved into over 100 different spellings in countries around the world. Nicknames (Dan, Danny) are common in both English and Hebrew, although in some instances "Dan" may be a complete given name rather than a nickname. The name "Daniil" (Даниил) is common in Russia. Feminine versions (Danielle, Daniela, Daniella, Dani, Danitza) are prevalent as well. The Dutch names "Daan" and "Daniël" are also variations of Daniel. A related surname developed as a patronymic, Daniels. Other surnames derived from "Daniel" include McDaniel and Danielson.
In the United States, the U.S. Social Security Administration reports that Daniel has peaked as the fifth most popular name for newborns in 1985, 1990, 2007, and 2008. The U.S. Census Bureau reported that in the 2000 census, "Daniels" was the 182nd most common surname in the U.S., while "McDaniel" was ranked at 323, and "Daniel" (without a final "s") was ranked at 380.
"Daniel" is a song by English recording artist Bat for Lashes, from her second studio album, Two Suns. It is her best selling single to date, selling over 46,000 copies worldwide. The song was announced as the lead single from Two Suns in January 2009, then released as a digital download single on 1 March 2009, and as a 7" vinyl single on 6 April 2009. The track was written by Natasha Khan and produced by David Kosten, as with all tracks on the album. Ira Wolf Tuton from Yeasayer provided the bass lines for the song and Khan did the rest of the instrumentation herself. Khan said in an interview with The Sun newspaper that "Daniel" is based on a fictional character that she fell in love with as a teenager. The single's cover features Khan with an image of the character Daniel LaRusso, from the film The Karate Kid, painted on her back. A character much like LaRusso also features at the end of the music video which goes with the song. The B-side of the 7" is a cover version of a 1980 single by The Cure.
The Book of Daniel is a biblical book consisting of an "account of the activities and visions of Daniel, a noble Jew exiled at Babylon." In the Hebrew Bible it is found in the Ketuvim (writings), while in Christian Bibles it is grouped with the Major Prophets.
The book divides into two parts, a set of six court tales in chapters 1–6 followed by four apocalyptic visions in chapters 7–12 – the Apocrypha contains three additional stories, the Song of the Three Holy Children, Susanna, and Bel and the Dragon.
Traditionally ascribed to Daniel himself, modern scholarly consensus considers the book pseudonymous, the stories of the first half legendary in origin, and the visions of the second the product of anonymous authors in the Maccabean period (2nd century BC). Its message is that just as the God of Israel saved Daniel and his friends from their enemies, so he would save all of Israel in their present oppression.
Its influence has resonated through later ages, from the Dead Sea Scrolls community and the authors of the gospels and Revelation, to various movements from the 2nd century to the Protestant Reformation and modern millennialist movements - on whom it continues to have a profound influence.
A former soldier who escaped from Wandsworth Prison, while awaiting trial, has been found guilty of spying for Iran. But he was cleared of carrying out a bomb hoax. 23-year-old Daniel Khalife was serving in the army when he was paid in cash for secret information. He then told police he had wanted to offer himself to British security agencies as a double agent. They described him as "the ultimate Walter Mitty character".

Sky's Shamaan Freeman-Powell looks at the story of Daniel Khalife, a former British soldier who escaped Wandsworth Prison and was eventually found guilty of spying for Iran. Khalife, who first contacted an Iranian spy soon after he joined the Army aged 16, claimed he wanted to be a "double agent" and "thought he could be James Bond" but had only passed on fake or useless information. Appearing at Woolwich Crown Court, Khalife was convicted of breaching the Official Secrets Act and Terrorism Act following 23 hours of deliberation from the jury. The 23-year-old former soldier was cleared of a second charge of carrying out a bomb hoax. The former British soldier was accused of passing secret information to Iran after fleeing his barracks, alongside leaving a “dodgy” device on his desk which fellow soldiers thought was "a makeshift bomb", the court previously heard. Khalife sparked a manhunt in September last year after escaping from HMP Wandsworth in south London while on remand, strapping himself to the underside of a food delivery lorry in a bid to escape. The former soldier had pleaded guilty to escaping from HMP Wandsworth in September 2023 part way through his t...
