Seat of local government
In local government, a city hall, town hall, civic centre, (in the UK or Australia) a guildhall, a Rathaus (German), or (more rarely) a municipal building, is the chief administrative building of a city, town, or other municipality. It usually houses the city or town council, its associated departments, and their employees. It also usually functions as the base of the mayor of a city, town, borough, or county / shire.
By convention, until the mid 19th-century, a single large open chamber (or 'hall') formed an integral part of the building housing the council. The hall may be used for council meetings and other significant events. This large chamber, the 'town hall', (and its later variant 'city hall') has become synonymous with the whole building, and with the administrative body housed in it. The terms 'council chambers', 'municipal building' or variants may be used locally in preference to 'town hall' if no such large hall is present within the building.
The local government may endeavor to use the town hall building to promote and enhance the quality of life of the community. In many cases, "'town halls' serve not only as buildings for government functions, but also have facilities for various civic and cultural activities. These may include art shows, stage performances, exhibits and festivals. Modern town halls or "civic centres" are often designed with a great variety and flexibility of purpose in mind.

Oregon City Hall
Oregon City Hall is the main municipal building for the Ogle County, Illinois city of Oregon. It stands on Oregon's Third Street, in the middle of the Oregon Commercial Historic District. The building is considered a contributing structure to the overall historical integrity of the historic district. Erected in 1920, the building, along with the rest of the historic district joined the National Register of Historic Places in August 2006.

City Hall, London
City Hall is the headquarters of the Greater London Authority (GLA), which comprises the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. It is located in Southwark, on the south bank of the River Thames near Tower Bridge. It was designed by Norman Foster and opened in July 2002, two years after the Greater London Authority was created.
Background
For the first two years of its existence, the Greater London Authority was based at Romney House, Marsham Street in Westminster. Meetings of the London Assembly took place at Emmanuel Centre, also on Marsham Street.
City Hall was constructed at a cost of £43 million on a site formerly occupied by wharves serving the Pool of London. The building does not belong to the GLA but is leased under a 25-year rent. Despite its name, City Hall is not in and does not serve a city (as recognised by English constitutional law), which often adds to the confusion of Greater London with the City of London, which has its headquarters at Guildhall. In June 2011, Mayor Boris Johnson announced that for the duration of the London 2012 Olympic Games, the building would be called London House.

Dickens' London
Charles Dickens' works are especially associated with London which is the setting for many of his novels. These works do not just use London as a backdrop but are about the city and its character.
Dickens described London as a Magic lantern, a popular entertainment of the Victorian era, which projected images from slides. Of all Dickens' characters 'none played as important a role in his work as that of London itself', it fired his imagination and made him write. In a letter to John Forster, in 1846, Dickens wrote 'a day in London sets me up and starts me', but outside of the city, 'the toil and labour of writing, day after day, without that magic lantern is IMMENSE!!'
However, of the identifiable London locations that Dickens used in his work, scholar Clare Pettitt notes that many no longer exist, and, while 'you can track Dickens' London, and see where things were, but they aren't necessarily still there'.
In addition to his later novels and short stories, Dickens' descriptions of London, published in various newspapers in the 1830s, were released as a collected edition Sketches by Boz in 1836.

London (Samuel Johnson poem)
London is a poem by Samuel Johnson, produced shortly after he moved to London. Written in 1738, it was his first major published work. The poem in 263 lines imitates Juvenal's Third Satire, expressed by the character of Thales as he decides to leave London for Wales. Johnson imitated Juvenal because of his fondness for the Roman poet and he was following a popular 18th-century trend of Augustan poets headed by Alexander Pope that favoured imitations of classical poets, especially for young poets in their first ventures into published verse.
London was published anonymously and in multiple editions during 1738. It quickly received critical praise, notably from Pope. This would be the second time that Pope praised one of Johnson's poems; the first being for Messiah, Johnson's Latin translation of Pope's poem. Part of that praise comes from the political basis of the poem. From a modern view, the poem is outshined by Johnson's later poem, The Vanity of Human Wishes as well as works like his A Dictionary of the English Language, his Lives of the Most Eminent English Poets, and his periodical essays for The Rambler, The Idler, and The Adventurer.

Earlier this year the Greater London Authority, the London Assembly and the Mayor of London relocated to a new headquarters in the former Crystal building next to Royal Victoria Dock and the London Cable Car.
An exhibition, film and free printed walking tour explaining City Hall’s relocation to the Royal Docks has been created by Open City for this year’s 30th anniversary Open House Festival with support from the Mayor of London.
The film features Tina Jadav, a Senior Project Officer in the Regeneration Team at the Greater London Authority; Alice Fung, co-founder and director of Architecture 00 who fitted out City Hall and local resident Danny Danquah who authored the walking tour.
Royal Victoria Dock – the western element of the Royal Docks – is the new home of London’s government: the Greater London Authority (GLA), the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. In this extraordinary landscape the new City Hall building is a symbol of our city’s amazing capacity for reinvention and renewal.
Not only is it at the cutting edge of sustainable design, but it will also help to act as a catalyst for regeneration within the Royal Docks and local area – just as the old City Hall did at the turn of the millennium a little further upriver.
This new civic space is open to all Londoners and has been designed to encourage participation in the key decisions affecting our city.
The vision is that it will be a place where a fairer, greener, safer and more prosperous future is forged for all of London’s communities. This exhibition – featuring a film and free takeaway printed walking tour – tells its story.
City Hall will be showing the film and exhibition from Thursday 22 September to Thursday 29 September, at the following times:
08.30 – 18.00 Mon – Thurs
08.30 – 17.30 Fri
Cafe closes at 16.00

London, the capital of England and the United Kingdom, is a 21st-century city with history stretching back to Roman times. At its centre stand the imposing Houses of Parliament, the iconic ‘Big Ben’ clock tower and Westminster Abbey, site of British monarch coronations. Across the Thames River, the London Eye observation wheel provides panoramic views of the South Bank cultural complex, and the entire city. ― Google

London is the capital of England and the UK. With a long history there are many historical sights and modern architecture in this vibrant European city.
We start our afternoon walk at the Tower Hill tube station. It's next to the Tower of London, which is a historic castle at the River Thames housing the crown jewels. We cross the River Thames via the iconic Tower Bridge and walk towards the city on the south bank. The weather is sunny today so we see the modern city hall. Soon we pass the HMS Belfast as we walk back to the north bank via the London Bridge.
The City of London has more monuments like one for the great fire of London and interesting modern architecture. Everything is mixed here Neoclassical and Imperial Gothic financial institutions of the 18th and 19th century. Continuing North we stroll through the Leadenhall Market and eventually head West where we pass Guildhall Art Gallery and St Mary Aldermary.
After a good hour we reach St. Paul's Cathedral where we end this walk. More videos are coming of this huge city later.

The City of London is NOT London! Looks like a play on words but it's not. They are completely different cities.
I have been may times in London and there is so many things to do in the City of London, but this time I thought about talking a bit about the secret City of London.
The City of London is also knows as The City and The Square Mile because it only has about 1.12 square miles.
I talk on the video about the City of London about some secrets and facts about it but there is one in particular that most of the people don't know, and that is the London Bridge and the London Tower are not owner by London's government but they are owned by The City of London Corporation.
Some say that the City of London is not part of the UK, I don't know about that but the facts that I say on the video about the city of London I know they are true.
The city of London has a different mayor and he is usually called The Right Honourable Lord Mayor of London, The Lord Mayor of London has full authority over The City of London, The Square Mile.
There are many conspiracies about banking and finance in The City but for sure The City owns a lot of buildings and places outside of the perimeter of The City.

Open City, with support from the Mayor of London, has created a new film, exhibition and printed tour exploring the new City Hall in the Royal Docks
Earlier this year the Greater London Authority, the London Assembly and the Mayor of London relocated to a new headquarters in the former Crystal building next to Royal Victoria Dock and the London Cable Car.
An exhibition, film and free printed walking tour explaining City Hall’s relocation to the Royal Docks has been created by Open City for this year’s 30th anniversary Open House Festival with support from the Mayor of London.
The film features Tina Jadav, a Senior Project Officer in the Regeneration Team at the Greater London Authority; Alice Fung, co-founder and director of Architecture 00 who fitted out City Hall and local resident Danny Danquah who authored the walking tour.
Royal Victoria Dock – the western element of the Royal Docks – is the new home of London’s government: the Greater London Authority (GLA), the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. In this extraordinary landscape the new City Hall building is a symbol of our city’s amazing capacity for reinvention and renewal.
Not only is it at the cutting edge of sustainable design, but it will also help to act as a catalyst for regeneration within the Royal Docks and local area – just as the old City Hall did at the turn of the millennium a little further upriver.
This new civic space is open to all Londoners and has been designed to encourage participation in the key decisions affecting our city.
The vision is that it will be a place where a fairer, greener, safer and more prosperous future is forged for all of London’s communities. This exhibition – featuring a film and free takeaway printed walking tour – tells its story.
City Hall will be showing the film and exhibition from Thursday 22 September to Thursday 29 September, at the following times:
08.30 – 18.00 Mon – Thurs
08.30 – 17.30 Fri
Cafe closes at 16.00

London, the capital of England and the United Kingdom, is a 21st-century city with history stretching back to Roman times. London is the capital of England and the UK. With a long history there are many historical sights and modern architecture in this vibrant European city.
We start our afternoon walk at the Tower Hill tube station. It's next to the Tower of London, which is a historic castle at the River Thames housing the crown jewels. We cross the River Thames via the iconic Tower Bridge and walk towards the city on the south bank. The weather is sunny today so we see the modern city hall. Soon we pass the HMS Belfast as we walk back to the north bank via the London Bridge.
The City of London has more monuments like one for the great fire of London and interesting modern architecture. Everything is mixed here Neoclassical and Imperial Gothic financial institutions of the 18th and 19th century. Continuing North we stroll through the Leadenhall Market and eventually head West where we pass Guildhall Art Gallery and St Mary Aldermary.
After a good hour we reach St. Paul's Cathedral where we end this walk. More videos are coming of this huge city later.

The City of London is NOT London! Looks like a play on words but it's not. They are completely different cities.
I have been may times in London and there is so many things to do in the City of London, but this time I thought about talking a bit about the secret City of London.
The City of London is also knows as The City and The Square Mile because it only has about 1.12 square miles.
I talk on the video about the City of London about some secrets and facts about it but there is one in particular that most of the people don't know, and that is the London Bridge and the London Tower are not owner by London's government but they are owned by The City of London Corporation.
Some say that the City of London is not part of the UK, I don't know about that but the facts that I say on the video about the city of London I know they are true.
The city of London has a different mayor and he is usually called The Right Honourable Lord Mayor of London, The Lord Mayor of London has full authority over The City of London, The Square Mile.
There are many conspiracies about banking and finance in The City but for sure The City owns a lot of buildings and places outside of the perimeter of The City.

In local government, a city hall, town hall, civic centre, (in the UK or Australia) a guildhall, a Rathaus (German), or (more rarely) a municipal building, is the chief administrative building of a city, town, or other municipality. It usually houses the city or town council, its associated departments, and their employees. It also usually functions as the base of the mayor of a city, town, borough, or county / shire.
By convention, until the mid 19th-century, a single large open chamber (or 'hall') formed an integral part of the building housing the council. The hall may be used for council meetings and other significant events. This large chamber, the 'town hall', (and its later variant 'city hall') has become synonymous with the whole building, and with the administrative body housed in it. The terms 'council chambers', 'municipal building' or variants may be used locally in preference to 'town hall' if no such large hall is present within the building.
The local government may endeavor to use the town hall building to promote and enhance the quality of life of the community. In many cases, "'town halls' serve not only as buildings for government functions, but also have facilities for various civic and cultural activities. These may include art shows, stage performances, exhibits and festivals. Modern town halls or "civic centres" are often designed with a great variety and flexibility of purpose in mind.
