Hilary Erhard Duff (born September 28, 1987) is an American actress and singer. Duff began her acting career at a young age, and quickly became labeled a teen idol as the starring titular character in the television series Lizzie McGuire (2001–04). The series proved to be a hit, leading to a film adaptation of the series to be released. Duff began working on numerous projects with the Disney channel, including the film Cadet Kelly (2002). She later began work on an album, releasing the Christmas themed Santa Claus Lane (2002) through Walt Disney Records. Upon signing with Hollywood Records, Duff began working on her second studio album, Metamorphosis (2003). The album achieved critical and commercial success, topping the Billboard 200 and selling over three million copies in the United States alone. The album also found success in both Canada and Japan. Duff's success in both acting and music led to her becoming a household name, with merchandise such as dolls, clothing, and fragrances being released.
Hilary Duff is the self-titled third studio album by American recording artist Hilary Duff. It was released on September 15, 2004, by Hollywood Records. Duff cited the album as being more mature than her previous albums, stating "Basically, I'm not Lizzie McGuire anymore". The seventeen-track album saw Duff collaborating with the same producers she did on Metamorphosis, saying that it was more comfortable for her that way. Recording sessions for the album took place during May to August 2004, partially between filming of Raise Your Voice (2004) and The Perfect Man (2005), both in which Duff had starring roles.
It received generally negative reviews from music critics, many of whom compared the album to the music of Avril Lavigne and Ashlee Simpson. The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 192,000 copies in its first week. To date, Hilary Duff has sold 1,800,000 copies in the US. It became her second consecutive number one debut in Canada and produced two singles that were not major hits. It was eventually certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Hilary Duff was number sixty-five on Billboard magazine's year-end top albums chart in November 2005.
Roller Coaster is the second album, released in 2004, by Scott Cain, singer-songwriter and winner of Australian Popstars 2002. It was released on the ABC Kids label and is targeted at children, but is lyrically relatively adult and not dissimilar to his debut album, Controlled Folly. However Cain co-wrote every song on Roller Coaster compared to only two on his debut.
The album's themes, according to the press release, are "songs that most kids can relate to; from having your first celebrity crush, hanging out, and generally enjoying life". Many of the tracks on Roller Coaster relate somehow to skateboarding. The track "Hilary Duff" (about Hilary Duff, sometimes called "I've Got a Crush on Hilary Duff") was released for airplay as a promotional single, and a music video was shot, but the track never quite saw release as a proper commercial single. The track "Perfect Day" here made its second appearance, having also been included on Controlled Folly in 2002, and "Step Into My World" was originally released on a Roadshow compilation in 2003.
"Chasing the Sun" is a song recorded by American singer Hilary Duff from her fifth studio album Breathe In. Breathe Out. (2015). It was written by Colbie Caillat, Jason Reeves, and Toby Gad, the latter of whom also produced the track. It is Duff's first single released since departing from her previous label Hollywood Records in 2008, under her recording contract with RCA Records. Undecided between "Tattoo", "All About You" and "Chasing the Sun" as the album's lead single, Duff and the label eventually chose the latter as the first single, describing it as a "top-down, carefree, super catchy singalong song". The song is featured in a March of Dimes public service announcement.
Critical reception
The song received mostly positive reviews from music critics. Jason Scott at PopDust praised the song for "show[ing] a more mature side to the singer, without completely abandoning her roots." Michelle McGahan of PopCrush likewise appreciated the song's sonic references to the era that made Duff a star: "We love the retro feel of the tune, which totally takes us back to the late '90s/early 2000s with its bubblegum sound." Jeff Benjamin of the music network Fuse gave the single a more mixed review, in which he praised the arrangement and "feel-good" vibe but was less impressed with Duff's singing. "It's not the vocal performance of a lifetime," writes Benjamin, "but it is that same peppy singer so many kids fell in love with hearing on TV everyday in the early '00s."
Two (also stylized as II) is the second and thus far final studio album by American alternative rock band The Calling, released on June 8, 2004 (Alex Band's 23rd birthday) through RCA Records. The record only features original members Alex Band and Aaron Kamin along with a variety of session musicians. A lot of the work from the album was influenced by U2.
Despite radio-friendly singles and relentless touring by the band, the album was viewed by many as under promoted by the label and disappointing compared to the success of their first album.
"Our Lives" was a minor hit, but the album was not as successful as their debut album Camino Palmero with sales totaling two million worldwide. Johnny Loftus at AllMusic, who gave it one and half out of five stars, said the album is "never adding enough of anything to be memorable or personal," and, that it is "the alternative to having an opinion."
"Chasing the Sun" is a song by English-Irish boy bandThe Wanted. It was released as their third single in the United States on 17 April 2012, from their debut EP, The Wanted: The EP (2012). It is also the lead single from their third studio album, Word of Mouth (2013).
There are two music videos for "Chasing the Sun". The first and official video was directed by Director X. It begins with The Wanted standing on the roof of the Rosslyn Hotel in Los Angeles in the middle of the night. It then begins to intersect with scenes of them in a club with some mysterious women, all of whom have strange sun-shaped tattoos on their hands, arms, thighs or belly. Each of the band meets one of these women and, upon being touched by them, all suddenly have exactly the same tattoo. The band decide to leave the club with their women and start walking down the secluded streets. They soon enter a different club. At the bridge, the boys are back on the roof of the Rosslyn Hotel, but this time at sunrise. The scene then changes back to the second club, where the boys start to get close to their women, but it turns out that the women are actually vampires, and all five boys get their necks bitten. The video ends with The Wanted walking out of the club into the bright sunlight.
