Hilary Erhard Duff (born September 28, 1987) is an American actress and singer. Duff began her acting career at a young age, and quickly became labeled a teen idol as the starring titular character in the television series Lizzie McGuire (2001–04). The series proved to be a hit, leading to a film adaptation of the series to be released. Duff began working on numerous projects with the Disney channel, including the film Cadet Kelly (2002). She later began work on an album, releasing the Christmas themed Santa Claus Lane (2002) through Walt Disney Records. Upon signing with Hollywood Records, Duff began working on her second studio album, Metamorphosis (2003). The album achieved critical and commercial success, topping the Billboard 200 and selling over three million copies in the United States alone. The album also found success in both Canada and Japan. Duff's success in both acting and music led to her becoming a household name, with merchandise such as dolls, clothing, and fragrances being released.
Hilary Duff is the self-titled third studio album by American recording artist Hilary Duff. It was released on September 15, 2004, by Hollywood Records. Duff cited the album as being more mature than her previous albums, stating "Basically, I'm not Lizzie McGuire anymore". The seventeen-track album saw Duff collaborating with the same producers she did on Metamorphosis, saying that it was more comfortable for her that way. Recording sessions for the album took place during May to August 2004, partially between filming of Raise Your Voice (2004) and The Perfect Man (2005), both in which Duff had starring roles.
It received generally negative reviews from music critics, many of whom compared the album to the music of Avril Lavigne and Ashlee Simpson. The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 192,000 copies in its first week. To date, Hilary Duff has sold 1,800,000 copies in the US. It became her second consecutive number one debut in Canada and produced two singles that were not major hits. It was eventually certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Hilary Duff was number sixty-five on Billboard magazine's year-end top albums chart in November 2005.
Roller Coaster is the second album, released in 2004, by Scott Cain, singer-songwriter and winner of Australian Popstars 2002. It was released on the ABC Kids label and is targeted at children, but is lyrically relatively adult and not dissimilar to his debut album, Controlled Folly. However Cain co-wrote every song on Roller Coaster compared to only two on his debut.
The album's themes, according to the press release, are "songs that most kids can relate to; from having your first celebrity crush, hanging out, and generally enjoying life". Many of the tracks on Roller Coaster relate somehow to skateboarding. The track "Hilary Duff" (about Hilary Duff, sometimes called "I've Got a Crush on Hilary Duff") was released for airplay as a promotional single, and a music video was shot, but the track never quite saw release as a proper commercial single. The track "Perfect Day" here made its second appearance, having also been included on Controlled Folly in 2002, and "Step Into My World" was originally released on a Roadshow compilation in 2003.
Sacred Heart is the debut studio album by the British pop act Shakespears Sister, released on 21 August 1989 by FFRR Records. The album was recorded after Siobhan Fahey decided to leave girl group Bananarama. Initially intended as a solo project for Fahey, Shakespears Sister became a partnership of Fahey and Marcella Detroit during the making of the album. The album spawned 5 singles, including the North American stand-alone release of "Heroine". The single "You're History", released in July 1989, reached No. 7 on the UK charts and was the first release to present the act as a duo. The album peaked at No. 9 on the UK albums chart, and was certificated gold by the BPI.
Background
Shakespears Sister was the first musical outing of Siobhan Fahey after leaving the successful girl group Bananarama in 1988. Fahey began working on Sacred Heart the same year with producer Richard Feldman, who later invited Marcella Detroit to collaborate as a songwriter. Detroit continued to work with Fahey as a "hired hand" until Fahey's husband, David A. Stewart suggested the two form a band, which was supported by Feldman, Fahey's management and her record company.
"Break My Heart" is first single taken from Estelle's third studio album All of Me, featuring American rapper Rick Ross. It was released on 26 April 2011.
Background
The lead single from her third album All of Me, "Break My Heart" is a breezy mid-tempo tune and was produced by Don Cannon and features Aston Martin Music rapper Rick Ross. Estelle released two versions of the remix, one containing Swizz Beatz, Raekwon and Wretch 32 for the UK market and a second featuring the British songstress spitting bars with Busta Rhymes and Jadakiss for the US. Estelle began her career as a rapper and she told The Boombox she had no problem returning to her rapping roots. "I started as a rapper, my first album (The 18th Day) was damn near all rap, so people know me as a rapper from home," she said. "This wasn't scary, I enjoyed rapping again. I felt like I needed to spit some bars."
Critical reception
Jonathan Landum from Associated Press wrote that on the album's lead single "the singer struggles with her trust issues on the midtempo, radio-friendly track." Margaret Wappler from Los Angeles Times wrote that Estelle "somehow manages to make king pimp Rick Ross sound like a romantic." Jon Dolan from Rolling Stone considered the track "gingerly hopeful" and said that "it's her kind of realness, conversational and smooth just the same."
