Young Orphaned Gorillas: See Their Adorable Bond With Park Rangers | National Geographic
At the Senkwekwe Center for mountain gorilla orphans in Congo, a handful of Virunga National Park rangers live around the clock with four juveniles whose parents were killed. The rangers see their families only every few weeks and are very close to their charges. Chief caretaker André Bauma along with his team have hand-raised the gorillas since they were first brought to the center. The first gorilla, Ndakasi, was found when she was just two months old, near the body of her murdered mother. Bauma cared for her like a human child—letting her sleep on his chest for warmth and bottle-feeding her to help build her strength. After that, three more orphaned gorillas joined "the family" at the center. Since no mountain gorilla orphan has ever been successfully returned to the wild, they will alw...

The Park Rangers Protecting the Congo's Gorillas
The War in Congo is the deadliest since World War II, killing more than 5 million people. But throughout the conflict, a remarkable group of Rangers have remained, fighting to protect Congo's Gorillas and other wildlife and natural resources. In a stunning turnaround, these rangers are saving endangered species and Congo's bio-diverse forest, and are even transforming the local economy, cutting off revenue streams to the various rebel groups operating there.
VICE's Ben Anderson trained and patrolled with the rangers over 10 years ago. He returned to see the remarkable progress they're making.

Six Gorilla Rangers Killed in Virunga National Park
Armed men on sunday killed at least six rangers and wounded several others in an ambush in Virunga National Park. Officials attributed the attack on Sunday to Mai-Mai fighters, an umbrella name for a loosely affiliated group of local militias who are battling for power and resources in eastern Congo.
Virunga national park has for years been the victim of repeated attacks from rebels and militia groups. More than 200 rangers have been killed in the past, including 12 last April in the deadliest such attack in recent memory. We’ve covered the topic in our “Wildlife in a Warzone” video: https://youtu.be/-SCpCsvf1V4

Mountain Gorilla Trekking In Virunga National Park, Congo DRC | 2018
In late 2017, we traveled to Virunga National Park located in the Democratic Republic of Congo to track the incredible mountain gorillas.
Virunga National Park is one of only 3 places in the world where you can come face to face with mountain gorillas in the wild (Uganda and Rwanda are the other two). And although most travel advisories urged us to forego travel to the DRC, due to the unstable situation in the region, we choose to support the park, its rangers, and it's mountain gorillas by spending our tourist dollars on this incredible wildlife experience.
Thanks to the rangers, guides, and the wonderful staff at the Virunga National Park, our visit to the park was INCREDIBLE!

In the forested depths of eastern Congo lies Virunga National Park, one of the most bio-diverse places in the world and home to the last of the mountain gorillas. In this wild, but enchanted environment, a small and embattled team of park rangers - including an ex-child soldier turned ranger, a caretaker of orphan gorillas and a Belgian conservationist - protect this UNESCO world heritage site from armed militia, poachers and the dark forces struggling to control Congo's rich natural resources. When the newly formed M23 rebel group declares war in May 2012, a new conflict threatens the lives and stability of everyone and everything they've worked so hard to protect.

Restoring Ecosystems in Prince Albert National Park
Fire is a natural, essential part of the boreal forest and grassland ecosystems found in Prince Albert National Park. In the absence of fire, forests are becoming thicker and older and trees like aspen are expanding into native grassland. Parks Canada is using prescribed fire to restore park ecosystems and create new habitat for our native species.

Waskesiu River Trail 2.5 km Loop
Rating - Easy.
The first section of the trail is a man made walkway that meanders along the side of the Waskesiu River. This is perfect for families with young children and it is also wheelchair accessible. Along this first section of trail there is a few rest stops to walk out and view the river, and they are nice spots to capture some photographs.
The remaining 2km is an easier trek through the forest area, which will loop you all the way back to the river and close to the parking area.

- Spectacular sightings of Africa's Big Five animals: lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo, and elephant.
- Incredible wildlife actions: lions mating, wild dogs hunting, and a hyenas having a feeding frenzy.
Although it might look like a National Geographic or BBC Earth documentary, the entire 4K video was shot with an iPhone :-)

Join me on a phenomenal safari in South Africa's Kruger National Park and Sabi Sand Game Reserve. The video includes:
- Spectacular sightings of Africa's Big Five animals: lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo, and elephant.
- Incredible wildlife actions: lions mating, wild dogs hunting, and a hyenas having a feeding frenzy.
Although it might look like a National Geographic or BBC Earth documentary, the entire 4K video was shot with an iPhone :-)
Video chapters:
0:00 Intro
3:05 African wild dogs
11:18 Hyenas
17:49 Lions
28:56 Cheetah
31:15 Zebras & giraffes
33:57 Cape buffalos
36:13 Rhinos
39:14 Hippos
39:42 Elephants
43:33 Leopard
The safari was filmed during my stay in Sabi Sand (with guides of &Beyond and Lion Sands) and Kruger National Park (with guides from Kruger Shalati).
