Ohhh well it's really quite funny I was, I was in bed sleepin' at ahhh 2'o'clock this mornin' me wife comes in and says: "Ohhh the shops been, ahhhh, someone ran into the shop!" And I said "Oooahhhh what!?"
So aahhh I jumped outta bed and all I had was me undies on and I've walked out the front and I seen ahhh the car smashed and I seen the bloke walkin' back to the car! And so I've walked outside and I said "Oahhh whatayadoin' mate!? So I jumped in me car and I started chasing him up the road and then he went down a side street and then the police were commin' and I flashed them and sent them off in the direction of him, but MATE, all I had was me jocks on and I was chasin' him up the street and I'm just like "MATE, LIKE!"
Reporter: Because you told me this is your mates shop and you didn't want him to get away?

Now Daniel you've managed to put some pants on in the meantime.

Reporter:
That's good to hear. Do you feel like a hero?
Daniel:
Ohhh, well not really it's just somethin' you gotta do for the community mate. It's like you look after your mates and your mates'll always look after you.

FAMOUS AUSTRALIAN WINE gets assessed by a Master Sommelier!
After mentioning this bottle since our first EVER episodes we've finally popped the top off potentially Australia's most chosen table wine.
Now that Angus has learnt from Master Sommelier Carlos Santos that "Pepper" in wine can also be confused with "Mint" or "Eucalyptus" we were keen to assess whether the title of this bottle has been lying to us for all these years.
Does this make our top 3 best value bottle of wine in the country? Is it in yours?

Yellow Tail Wine, from small town Australia to the world
Casella wines was originally started by Sicilian immigrants Fillippo and Maria Casella. The migrated from Italy to Australia in 1957 like many families from Italy, Greece and Yugoslavia did at that time.
The Casella’s however, had a dream of building their own winery.
In 1965 they purchased a farm in Yenda where they would grow grapes for local winemakers.
They went on to bottle their first wine in 1969 and crushed their first vintage in 1971 with 50 tonnes of grapes.
John Casella, son of the couple became managing director of the winery in 1995 and recognized a gap in the market for a wine brand that is easy to drink and delivers consistent quality, taste and value.
Then to 2001 where the first shipment of yellow tail left Australia for the US. The initial plan was to sell 25,000 cas...

The BEST Australian wine REVEALED (not Penfolds Grange 😲)
Master Sommelier Carlos Santos has been talking about Wendouree Winery in Clare Valley, South Australia on nearly every episode of Got Somme to date. So when we got the chance to surprise him with a flight of 4 different vintages and varietals from the brand he said "NO F***ING WAY"
The Wendouree vineyards were established in 1893, and its distinctive, high-quality wines are known to have an indefinite shelf life despite their little production. They have grown to be somewhat of an Australian cult favourite among savvy wine drinkers. The only way to get them when they go on sale is via the mailing list, which is still one of the most difficult to join in Australia.

2019 Patrick Sullivan Ada River Chardonnay Gippsland Australia – 48 US $

2016 Wynns The Siding Cabernet Sauvignon Coonawarra Australia – 13 US $
2018 Glaetzer Bishop Shiraz Barossa Valley Australia – 24 US $
The 100 Point Scoring System (from www.robertparker.com):
96-100: An extraordinary wine of profound and complex character displaying all the attributes expected of a classic wine of its variety. Wines of this caliber are worth a special effort to find, purchase and consume.
90 - 95: An outstanding wine of exceptional complexity and character. In short, these are terrific wines.
80 - 89: A barely above average to very good wine displaying various degrees of finesse and flavor as well as character with no noticeable flaws.
70 - 79: An average wine with little distinction except that it is soundly made. In essence, a straightforward, innocuous wine.
60 - 69: A below-average wine containing noticeable deficiencies, such as excessive acidity and/or tannin, an absence of flavor or possibly dirty aromas or flavors.
50 - 59: A wine deemed to be unacceptable.
Australia is one of the more recent additions to the wine world and has grown quickly over the last centuries. When the first European settlers arrived in Oz, there were no wild vines like there like in North America for example. The first vineyards were planted at the end of the 18th century and the industry grew steadily throughout the 19th century. Phylloxera also came to Australia in the 19th century but it did not spread widely and many vineyards and regions are still phylloxera free.
There was a period in the early 20th century when Australia focused on producing Fortified wines. Rutherglen Muscat is one of the remaining wine styles from that time but in the 1950s things changed for the industry. Cold fermentations, the use of stainless steel, the focus on better varietals, and high hygiene levels in the winery improved the quality of Australian wines and made them more reliable also compared to their Old World peers. Today Australia is well-established as a wine-making country. Most of the wine is being produced in the South East of the country, in the states of South Australia and New South Wales as well as Tasmania but you can also find great wines in Western Australia and to a lesser extent in Queensland.
If you think of Australia as hot and dry that’s not entirely true. Most of the wine growing regions are cooled down by the Pacific Ocean. Some areas are also at a higher altitude, like for example Orange a region that sits above 600 meters in Altitude. But Australia can be pretty hot too and by looking at the most widely planted grape varieties you see a mix of cool and warm climate varieties: Shiraz, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc
Shiraz or Syrah is the most widely planted variety. While Australians have adopted the spelling Shiraz it is still the same grape variety as Syrah. But it has also developed into a style descriptor. Wines from another country labeled Shiraz are usually richer and more concentrated than Syrahs from the same place. But now let's get into the wines … I have a selection here of classics and some newcomers to the Australian wine scene, so this tasting should be nice.

The initial plan was to sell 25,000 cases in the first year, they smashed that goal by selling over 1,000,000 cases in 13 months.
In 2003 global sales of yellow tail reached 5 million cases. They were inducted into the Australian Export Hall of Fame in 2005 and recognized for their ongoing contribution to the Australian wine industry.

At the heart of Canberra’s creation story is Lake Burley Griffin. In 1911, the government launched an international design competition seeking a master plan for a brand new city. Canberra Travel Guide 2024 - Best Places to Visit in Canberra Australia in 2024
Canberra is Australia’s capital, inland from the country's southeast coast. Surrounded by forest, farmland and nature reserves, it earns its nickname, the "Bush Capital.” The city's focal point is Lake Burley Griffin, filled with sailboats and kayaks. On the lakeshore is the massive, strikingly modern Parliament House, as well as museums including the National Gallery, known for its indigenous art collections.
Australia, officially the Commonwealth of Australia, is a sovereign country comprising the mainland of the Australian continent, the island of Tasmania, and numerous smaller islands. Australia is the largest country by area in Oceania and the world's sixth-largest country.
