Today we're looking at the genetic history of the Pacific islands, including the regions of Melanesia, Micronesia, Polynesia, Australia and New Zealand.
The Pacific region is one of the most expansive regions on the planet, and has a huge amount of racial, ethnic and linguistic diversity as well, and it's one of the most interesting places to study.
Let me know your thoughts on the Pacific region, as well as leaving me a question for my 1K subs Q&A!

Who are the people of Oceania and what is their history? Today we'll be looking at the native people of Oceania, the many islands of the Pacific and where they come from, including the Melanesians, Micronesians and Polynesians as well as the people who came before that have since largely been washed away by subsequent migration from East Asia, that being the indigenous inhabitants of Sundaland; a unique race of people related to both native Oceanians such as Papuans as well as indigenous tribal Adivasi peoples of South Asia. Over time, various waves of migration and colonization has created a very unique demographic situation in most of Oceania with ...

WHERE'S REIS | Moments With Melanesians | BRAZOFUERTE
During my time in Australia 🇦🇺 I was invited by Mabel Vanua to attend the Papúa New Guinea (PNG) 🇵🇬 independence festival. PNG is an island north of Australia which is home to BLACK indigenous Melanesians.
⠀
Melanesia - which, in Greek, literally translates to “Islands of black people” - includes 5 independent countries - Fiji, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, PNG, and East Timor.
⠀
It was such an experience to see people who look like me, passing along their traditions - who have been actual natives of the land for thousands of years.

THE MYSTERIOUS LAND OF BLACK PEOPLE WITH BLONDE HAIR : Solomon Islanders.
#blackandblonde #blonde #solomonislands
Pay a visit to Melanesia's Solomon Islands, 1800 kilometers northeast of Australia, and you'll notice a striking phenomenon. About 10% of the dark-skinned islanders sport bright blond afros.
The Solomon Islands is an independent island country consisting of six major islands and over 900 smaller islands in Oceania, to the east of Papua New Guinea and northwest of Vanuatu. It has a land area of 28,400 square kilometers and a population of 652,858. Its capital, Honiara, is located on the largest island, Guadalcanal.
This is the land of black people with this very dark skin and bright blond hair in at least 10 % of its population.
The common occurrence of blond hair among the dark-skinned indigenous people of the Solomon Islands is due to a homegr...

A new study, however, points to a random mutation, implying that blond hair evolved independently at least twice in human history.
Skin color and hair texture often give away the race of a person. Most Africans tend to have kinky or supercoiled hair. Europeans and Americans mostly have straight, silky hair. Blonde hair is characterized by low levels of eumelanin, a dark pigment, and is typically associated with white or Caucasian people. Hence, it's fascinating that some people of Melanesia who have dark skin and are believed to have originated from Africa have blonde hair. Although they all have the darkest skin outside of Africa, a significant amount of the indigenous Melanesian people have beautiful blond hair.
Melanesia is a sub region of Oceania that stretches from the Pacific Ocean's western edge to the Arafura Sea and eastward to Fiji. This region encompasses Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, and New Caledonia. Many people assumed Melanesia's blond hair was a product of gene flow, a feature transmitted down by European explorers, traders, and other visitors in earlier centuries. However, a new study revealed that this assumption is incorrect. Join us in our video today, which reveals Scientist shocking revelation about the black Africans with blonde hair.

Over time, various waves of migration and colonization has created a very unique demographic situation in most of Oceania with connections to people groups in Asia, Europe and even the Americas. Thanks for watching!

The common occurrence of blond hair among the dark-skinned indigenous people of the Solomon Islands is due to a homegrown genetic variant distinct from the gene that leads to blond hair in Europeans, according to a new study from the Stanford University School of Medicine.
Globally, blond hair is rare, occurring with substantial frequency only in northern Europe and in Oceania, which includes the Solomon Islands and its neighbors. Its frequency is between 5 and 10 percent across the Solomon Islands, which is about the same as amongst most white countries.
Now many could be wondering, why are these clearly black people blonde?
Many assumed the blond hair of Melanesia was the result of gene flow — a trait passed on by European explorers, traders, and others who visited in the preceding centuries. The islanders themselves give several possible explanations for its presence. They generally chalked it up to sun exposure, or a diet rich in fish.
After researchers at UCSF generated genetic data from the samples. There is a single strong signal on chromosome 9, which accounted for 50 percent of the variance in the Solomon Islanders’ hair color. It was such a striking signal pointing to a single gene — a result you could hang your hat on. That rarely happens in science.
The majority of Solomon Islanders are ethnically Melanesian. Scientific results show that Melanesians share the genetic features that have been linked to the exodus of modern humans from Africa 50,000 years ago.
The purpose of making this video is to highlight the genetic diversity amongst black people from all over the world and it also helps deconstruct a Eurocentric view of the world in thinking about where blond hair comes from. Black people come in all shades of complexion, hair types, and many other phenotypical characteristics.
