History of The Ashanti Empire of Ghana
The Asante (also known as Ashanti) are part of the more prominent Akan people, a significant ethnic group in modern-day Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire. "Asante" translates to "because of war" in the Twi language. It derives from two Twi words: "ɔsa," meaning "war," and "nti," meaning "because of." This name reflects the origins of the Asante kingdom, which was established to resist and combat the Denkyira kingdom.
The variant name "Ashanti" emerged from British reports, where the pronunciation of "Asante" was transcribed as "Ashanti," reflecting how the British heard and interpreted the word.

The Golden Stool - History Of Africa with Zeinab Badawi [Episode 14]
In this episode, Zeinab Badawi travels to Ghana and Cote D’Ivoire to find out about the Asante people and their kingdom. We examine the history, myths and legends of the Asante people. We attend the Akwasidae, a colourful festival where the King of the kings of the Asante - known as the Asantehene - has his gold regalia on full display as a way of projecting wealth and prestige. And we hear about the great Asante queen who led the resistance against the invading British and hid the Asante’s most valued and sacred possession: the Golden Stool. The Asante serve as an example of how despite decades of colonial rule, Africans maintained their traditions and continue to revel in and perpetuate their heritage and customs.

Ghana Gets the Ashanti Crown Jewels Back from the UK? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
32 priceless artefacts have made their way back to Ghana. They include crown jewels that belonged to the Ashanti kingdom. These artefacts were looted by British soldiers back in 1874, during the third Anglo-Ashanti war. The British took the looted artefacts back to the UK, and these relics eventually found their way to museums. Now, two museums in the UK have agreed to loan these crown jewels back to the King of the Ashanti people. It's a 3-year loan with the King, not the government of Ghana. The King is a ceremonial figurehead who has set up a museum to showcase the country's heritage to the people of Ghana.
