Kitty Cats and College Classes

On the thrifting front, I was able to pick up 60 sewing patterns from the 80s/90s. These two patterns have lept into my personal collection. I have two beloved kitties of my own, Lucky and Susie.

Lucky is the little grey peeking out beneath the shed door.

Susie, otherwise known as Miss Hiss, hisses whenever she is displeased.

College classes have finally posted for Los Rios Community College. My declaration as a dance major was all for naught, even though Tap Dancing is listed in the course catalog, it is not offered at any of the campuses.😒

On the flip side, the drawing and composition class I thought I would have to take in person at a different campus, is offered fully online through Sacramento City College. Sweeeet. While I would enjoy an in-person class, online saves time and gas and allows for remote study. Here is hoping I can register for that class before it closes.

There is Fine Art in the Thrift Shops

This amazing acrylic on canvas by Fred Draper has me stunned.  A gem from the great Thrift Shop Beyond that has found its way to me. I immediately hung it up on our living room wall.  It is almost criminal that I paid $6.25 cents for this high quality piece of art, marked $12.50, it was half off day at hospice thrift.

Included with the Draper delight were these clothes (the lot for less than $20). I score at these types of sales because I look for offbeat or professional suit type pieces.  A three piece black Pendelton suit/pant set, an unmarked beaded sweater (detail shown below), Studio Collection houndstooth pants, and a Woolrich gray shirt.

I will replace the yellowed buttons and affix the loose beads on this sweater.

The second stop thrift shop finds were remnant material in a little black office cube with a ladies cape and two retro sewing books (images from those will find their way into my AtoZ posts).

Other recent thrift shop finds were a Christopher & Banks embellished sweater and a Coldwater Creek plum knit top.

A to Z preparation continues for the April event.  As of this blog post, there are over 2,000 bloggers participating with the sign-up list now closed.

The quest for cornflower blue

Half off clothing at Thrift Town came through for me.  For under $10, I added an Eddie Bauer cornflower blue short-sleeved collared shirt, a Gap Body t-shirt, and a Liz Claiborne black and white skirt.

On the topic of blue - these maxis from 1974 are worth a share on this post.  Since midriffs seem to be "in" the gal pictured in the middle is right on trend.

One of my enduring favorite blogs is the Gold Country Girls.  They too have been on the vintage pattern hunt.  Here is a link to numerous patterns found by Heidi Ann

A is for Angels - A to Z Writing Challenge topic

Yesiree folks, we are starting the A to Z Writing Challenge with the letter "A."  There is a whole slew of bloggers posting along with this challenge.  It is my first year with A to Z - I missed last year by a mere month (argh).  I am Number 48 on the sign-up list this year.  Welcome to those visiting from AtoZ and a hideeho to my regular audience.

My challenge posts will be centered around All Things Thrifting.  I may stray from my chosen topic and post quotes, poems, stories, images and throw in a blog hop or two.

The thrift shop angels are stars that have fallen from heaven, tossed aside by their original owner, to be scooped up by an appreciative collector.  This sweetie was an addition to my collection this past season.  Course, the angels do tend to show up more around the Christmas season - that is the time to snap them up. And who doesn't need an angel on their side?

The angels may have wider spheres of action and
nobler forms of duty than ourselves,
but truth and right to them and to us
are one and the same thing.
E. H. Chapin

One tidbit I want to throw in is a shout out to Arlee Bird of Tossing It Out.  He started the A to Z Challenge (little did he know how it would take off!).  We are all surprising him with a mention.
