Gaia (가이아, Gaia) theory proposes that the earth is sentient and able to exert its will. Some people say it's "providence" and others say it's "natural law". It's been called the "principle" or the "origin". People have different names for it, but generally they call it "God".[1]
She is also the "Numen" created by the ancient transcedental beings.[2]
History[]
Gaia chooses people, seemingly at random, and gives them special abilities. Whatever affected their lives the most deeply is likely to impact the nature of their abilities. For example, someone who nearly drowned when they were young might manifest the ability to control water. [3] However, no one actually knows how they were born, where their ability originated, and how they became innate fighters. People can only guess.[4]
Killing someone who doesn't belong in the Abyss makes you collect bad karma. Basically, it's a sin. The system also gives bad karma to someone who ordered such an act. Once a person's bad karma reaches a certain level, they get restricted by Gaia and acquire bad luck. That applies immediately. And the more bad karma you accumulate, the worse your luck gets. It's a damage over time.[5] Gaia, however, is not omnipotent. Proof of that is Harem King, who's strong enough to overcome her will.[6]
After Gaia put restrictions on the world for the first time, around two thousand years ago [7], the world was a mess. About seventy percent of people who used special abilities, secret arts, and spells died. It's called Gaia for people's convenience but no one truly knows who made these restrictions. It could be supposed that these restrictions are impossible unless they're made by a divine being. However, these restrictions are shackles. A safety measure that prevents them from causing harm to people of the real world. Most people in Abyss are basically criminals. So they're all feeling constrained. And that's why some people in the abyss are trying to destroy the world. The problem is time. As this system has been around for thousands of years, some have adapted to the system and made their faction. They want things to stay as they are right now. In short, they're called the Status Quo Group. The opposite party is the Reversion Group.[8]
