Faculty Program Director Training and Workshops

The Study Abroad Office administers faculty-led programs in accordance with institutional policies and the highest industry standards to help ensure the health, safety and security of participants. The following workshops provide information and resources regarding a variety of topics to prepare current faculty to lead their programs abroad.

Kick-Off Event

September 23, 2025, 4:30-6:30pm, FedEx Global Education Center lobby

This event is an opportunity to meet and mingle with your study abroad Program Director, SAO staff, and fellow Program Directors.  We will go over the timeline for the upcoming study abroad season.  Food and drink is catered for this drop-in event. 

Travel & Program Finances (virtual)

December 4, 2025, 11:00am

At this presentation, the Study Abroad Finance team will walk through the Concur Travel System and UNC travel policies to help you prepare to use the system as it relates to your program travel.

Preparing a Concur Travel Request (virtual)

February 13, 2026, 11:00am

At this workshop, you will learn how to successfully complete and submit your Concur travel request before your trip. The Study Abroad Finance Team will walk you through the process, share best practices, and answer your questions so you can move forward with confidence.

Completing a Concur Pre Trip Expense Report (virtual)

March 27, 2026, 11:00am

At this workshop, the Study Abroad Finance team will guide you through submitting your pre-trip expense report in Concur before your travels. This workshop will help you understand what to include, how to submit your report, and give you the chance to clarify any questions.

Pre-Departure Risk Management, Health & Safety Workshop

April 28, 2026

Held each spring semester, the goal of the workshop is to help faculty program directors prepare for their upcoming summer abroad. SAO staff will share best practices on a variety of topics, including faculty responsibilities, financial considerations, managing student expectations and conduct, emergency response, and case studies from previous summer programs. Faculty veterans will be asked to share their experience.

Completing a Concur Post-Trip Expense Report (virtual)

June 12, 2:00pm | July 17, 2:00pm | August 14, 2:00pm

At this workshop, the Study Abroad Finance Team will guide you through submitting your post-trip expense report in Concur once you return from your travels. We’ll walk you through the required documentation, share tips, and answer your questions so you can finalize your report with ease.
