Travel Information
Travel Information
One of the most enriching aspects of study abroad is traveling to a new destination and exploring all it has to offer. Many programs offer opportunities to travel in-country and abroad on weekends and longer breaks.
Students are responsible for covering travel costs to and from the program, as well as personal travel during their time abroad. While you are free to travel before and after your program, you must make arrangements for accommodations on your own. Unless you are experienced traveling abroad, we recommend traveling after your program and during the breaks, rather than before. If you are traveling under a visa, you may not be permitted to enter or remain in the country before and/or after the dates of your program. Check first before you make travel plans.
More information on making travel plans, as well as many other travel tips, is made available on your account page and in the Heels Abroad Handbook upon acceptance to a program.
Some tips:
- Research your host country! Buy a guidebook, explore travel websites, look up the country information sheet on the U.S. State Department site
- Set up price alerts for your destination on a flight booking website
- If you don’t know the local language, teach yourself a few key phrases
- Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program
