Global activities are an important part of our campus’s mission and study abroad is one way to internationalize the undergraduate academic experience. The Study Abroad Office (SAO) is committed to partnering with academic departments to support their goals and enhance their curriculum through for-credit global activities.

Studying abroad can have a valuable impact on students academic, personal, and professional growth. While abroad students learn about themselves and what they are capable of, help them improve their academics, and may help guide their future professional goals. An global experience enhances a student’s academic career and can provide real-world experience tied to their career path. Faculty, advisors, and staff across campus play a vital role in internationalizing the student experience at Carolina. Faculty and advisors are often one of the primary influences on a student, and your encouragement can motivate students to seek international experiences and help them understand how a global experience will fit into their academic and professional careers.

Nearly 40% of UNC College of Arts & Sciences undergraduates study abroad and our goal is to continue to expand our program offerings in order to increase access and participation in a global experience.
