"Command station, this is ST-321, code clearance blue. We are starting our approach. Deactivate the security shield."
"The security deflector shield will be deactivated when we have confirmation of your code transmission. Stand by."
―Captain Yorr and Jad Bean — (audio) Listen (file info)[1]

Yorr was a human captain in the Imperial Navy who flew the Lambda-class T-4a shuttle ST 321. In 4 ABY, Yorr and Colonel Jendon used the shuttle to transport Sith Lord Darth Vader from the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Avenger to the Death Star II superweapon while the latter was under construction in the Endor system.

Yorr later flew a new variant of TIE/d "Defender" Multi-Role Starfighter during the Battle of Endor, in which the Alliance to Restore the Republic were lured into attacking the Death Star by Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine. Yorr fought against the rebels above the moon Endor, but the Alliance was ultimately able to destroy the Death Star.

Captain Yorr and Colonel Jendon piloted ST 321 while transporting Darth Vader to the Death Star.

The human[1] Yorr served in the officer corps of the Galactic Empire's navy as captain[2] of ST 321, the Lambda-class T-4a shuttle of the Sith Lord Darth Vader.[1] In 4 ABY,[3] Yorr and Colonel Jendon[2] co-piloted the shuttle as it departed from the hangar of[1] the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Avenger[4] in the Endor system, transporting Vader to the Empire's incomplete Death Star II superweapon as it underwent construction over the moon Endor. The shuttle was escorted by two TIE/ln space superiority starfighters that also exited the hangar.[1]

Yorr then contacted the Death Star over comms and informed them of the shuttle's approach, giving the vessel's code clearance as blue and asking that the Death Star's shields be deactivated so they could land.[1] Flight controller[5] Jad Bean[6] replied from on board the Death Star, telling Yorr to stand by until the shuttle's code transmission had been received. Once it arrived, Bean cleared ST 321 to land and deactivated[1] a section of[5] the shield. Yorr and Jendon then piloted the shuttle to one of the Death Star's hangars, where their TIE escort departed before ST 321 retracted its wings and landed inside. Vader then disembarked from the shuttle to meet with Moff Tiaan Jerjerrod and discuss the station's construction.[1]

Battle of Endor[]

Captain Yorr flew a TIE Defender at the Battle of Endor.

Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine soon also arrived on the Death Star and used his presence and the station's incomplete status as bait to lure the fleet of the Alliance to Restore the Republic into attacking the Death Star so that he could use its fully functional superlaser to destroy them and end the Galactic Civil War. The Alliance fell for the trap, and once its fleet arrived, it was surrounded by Imperial forces and engaged in combat.[1] During the battle, Yorr flew a TIE/d "Defender" Multi-Role Starfighter as part of the Starfighter Corps alongside a TIE/IN interceptor.[2]

Wanting to send a message, Palpatine had only the Empire's starfighters engage the rebels while the Imperial capital ships held their fire so that the Death Star's superweapon could pick off the Alliance's major vessels.[1] Yorr exchanged fire with the enemy above Endor,[2] but ultimately rebel forces on the moon below deactivated the Death Star's shield generator and allowed the rebel fleet to destroy the Death Star and claim victory over the Empire.[1]

Personality and traits[]

Yorr had light skin, brown hair, and brown eyes.[1]

Equipment[]

While piloting ST 321, Yorr wore a black Imperial officer's uniform including an Imperial kepi with an officer's disk.[1] During the Battle of Endor, the pilot flew a new variant of the TIE/d "Defender" that incorporated secret Chiss engineering. It was also equipped with ion cannons and computer-assisted handling.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Jasper jacob

Captain Yorr was portrayed by Jasper Jacobs.

Yorr first appeared in the original trilogy film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi,[1] which was released on March 25, 1983.[7] Actor Jasper Jacob physically portrayed the role uncredited, with the script simply referring to the character as "shuttle captain." The shuttle cockpit scenes were filmed on Stage 6 at Elstree Studios between March 24 and March 31, 1982,[8] and Jacob spent two days filming with director Richard Marquand directing both days. He recorded more dialogue then made it into the final cut, including lines about Vader being impatient, and found it difficult to memorise his lines, resulting in a large number of takes being necessary.[9] Yorr's lines were then dubbed over by Colin Kitchens.[10]

In the current Star Wars canon, Yorr's name was first used in a preview for the 2024 Battle Over Endor Scenario Pack set for Atomic Mass Games' Star Wars: X-Wing Second Edition board game.[2] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Yorr appeared prior to the release of the film in its novelization, which included additional dialogue for Yorr[11] similar to the cut lines that Jacob recalled.[9] It was written by James Kahn[11] and published on May 12, 1983.[7] The character was first identified in Legends in 2000 on a card in the "Death Star II Limited" set for the Star Wars Customizable Card Game published by Decipher, Inc.[12]
