Hikoichi Aida (相田 彦一 Aida Hikoichi) aspires to become a player like his teammates but, not being up to their level, he stays with the reserves and hangs around their coach, Moichi Taoka , and acts more as a team manager than a full player, taking detailed notes during matches. His catchphrase is "Gotta check it out!" aside from shouting "Unbelievable!!!" every time something exciting happens during a match. Hikoichi too considers Sakuragi a great player, because Sakuragi convinced him when they first met. Hikoichi also idolizes Miyagi because he is a starter for Shohoku despite his short height. During The Match Between Shoyo and Shohoku, he cheers for Miyagi and Sakuragi. Hikoichi's older sister Yayoi Aida is a reporter for a weekly basketball magazine.

Daiei-Toyotama[]

Hikoichi went to Osaka to meet up with an old friend of his name Teruo, Hikoichi was surprised that Teruo grew so tall while saying that Ryonan didn’t make it to the Nationals, Minori Kishimoto overheard their conversations and thinks that Ryonan wouldn’t be a big deal, even bragging that he will embarrass Akira Sendoh. An infuriated Hikoichi insults him back and runs off to watch Toyotama’s game against Daiei, hoping to gather up data and send it to Shohoku High and Kainan University Affiliated High School for revenge.

Hikoichi went to the match and is astounded by Atsushi Tsuchiya’s performances as he embarrasses Toyotama.

Shohoku-Toyotama[]

Although not present in the match, before the game started, Hikoichi called up Shohoku and sent them a fax containing information about Toyotama. Hikoichi then shouted “GO GO SHOHOKU!!”, wishing them good luck.

Abilities[]

As a scout, he is very thorough, albeit absent-minded. While he knew of Rukawa's exploits, he confused him with Sakuragi, who actually stayed late in the gym to practise. He is also easily impressed, sometimes forgetting his alliances.

Etymology[]

  • The name Hikoichi means "boy, prince" (彦) (hiko) and "one" (一) (ichi).
  • Hikoichi's surname Aida means "phase, aspect, countenance, mutually, fellow" (相) (ai) and "field, rice paddy" (田) (ta/da).
