What Nick Viall Can’t Live Without

If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what famous people add to their carts — like their hair spray and electric toothbrush. We asked TV personality and podcast host Nick Viall, who recently partnered with Patrón El Alto, about the outdoor pizza oven, breakup movie, and at-home weights he can’t live without.

Everyone loves a good candle. These are just nice to have around the house. I just like the way they smell. Even when they’re not lit, they actually give off a nice scent. I think that’s the making of a high-quality candle. To be totally honest, I really lean on my wife Natalie for the scents. She has a better palate for that than me. This was more her input. If she’s happy, I’m happy when it comes to how our house smells.

If you have dogs, this is a must-have. Our two Labradoodles have a tendency to yank us on walks if we put the leash on their collar. This helps them walk a lot better when they’re on leash. It takes away that sensation to pull. I also find that the rubber leash is more durable. It’s a pretty simple product, but we’ve gone through a lot of different leashes, and this one works for us.

We hold our baby, River, a lot. She’s usually in our arms, but every once in a while, we need to set her down. This is something we find to be safe and something she enjoys. We can just set her down to get some house chores done, like washing dishes. We’ve been lucky enough to try different products out, and she seems to really like this. It keeps her entertained and comfortable.

I’ve been an Away customer for many years now. It’s a great suitcase. I think they give you a lifetime warranty even though you don’t really need it, because it’s incredibly durable. It’s amazing how brand-new my probably four-year-old luggage still looks. It’s very convenient. It’s easy to pack and has a lot of space. It’s incredibly easy to roll, because of its 360 spin wheels. And if we ever have an extra bag, we can set it on top of the suitcase easily. All our luggage is from Away.

I try to stay active and work out. Jumping rope is an exercise I think people forget about. It’s fun and easy to travel with, especially when I’m on the road. Not every hotel I stay in has a gym or a gym that I want to use, so it’s just a great, easy way to get cardio in when I’m on the go. It’s also a different type of exercise you don’t normally get with the plyometrics. And the weighted handles add a little extra to it, too.

I don’t take these on the road. Natalie and I use these at home. Obviously, they’re lighter weights, but as I’ve gotten older, just staying active has gotten more important to me, even if it’s a few reps or exercises throughout the day. These dumbbells are just perfect for just a little bit of weight resistance — nothing too heavy. And they’re something everyone can use. Natalie’s mom actually uses them a lot, too. (She’s in town and has been very helpful with the baby.) She’s constantly using them, and she’s not a big gym person. She’s always doing these arm exercises, so they’ve been a nice thing to have around.

One of the greatest movies of all time. It’s an excellent breakup movie. It’s rewatchable. It’s one of my go-tos, especially for anyone getting out of a breakup. And if you’re not going through a breakup, it’s just a good time. We actually stayed at the hotel where the movie was filmed last year for Natalie’s cousin’s wedding.

I’m a big coffee drinker. I can never have too much. I love a nice little espresso after dinner. This is very easy to use, and I’m not paying the high prices from going to the coffee shop every day. I’m more of an espresso-shot person, but my wife Natalie’s more into lattes.

I’m a big cook. As I’ve gotten older, I like to try cooking new foods. Sushi is something I just started dabbling in. I’ve tried making your basic hand roll with rice and salmon. I’ve also done yellowtail and tuna. I’m not very good at it, but this kit was a great place to start. It makes it a bit more approachable. It’s very much a work in progress for me.

I stand by my homemade pizza. It’s restaurant quality. Natalie and I make pizza at least once a week usually. I used to make it in the oven, which works, but I really enjoy the pizza oven. It’s nice to have outside because sometimes the cheese will melt and drip in the oven and it starts to smoke a little bit. Using this makes the crust better and the pizza a little more flaky. It also makes you feel like you’re a little more authentic with your pizza making. It’s also really simple to use. You just put a propane tank on it, pop it in, easy to turn on, easy to turn off. I love it. I use it all the time.

I like to enjoy the alcohol I drink. I’m not a big shot person. I don’t drink in excess. I drink my liquor either neat or on the rocks, so I like to drink high-quality stuff. Patrón El Alto is that. It’s smooth, sweet. It’s something you can actually sip. You don’t have to add anything to it to enjoy it. That’s what I love most about it. It’s truly what got me into tequila. Also, it makes a great gift. Obviously, any type of spirit is a great gift, but this has a luxury feel to it. Anytime I go to a house party, it’s a go-to gift.
