What Adam Scott (Still) Can’t Live Without

If you’re like us, you’ve probably wondered what everyday stuff famous people add to their carts — like hair spray or an electric toothbrush. Back in 2017, we spoke with actor Adam Scott about the protein bars and water flosser he can’t live without. Seven years later, we asked Scott — who recently partnered with Philips — to revisit his list, and it turns out he’s still using some of it, alongside a few new favorites.

What he still can’t live without

You really can’t go wrong at Trader Joe’s. Their dried mangoes are great. I’ve also recently been getting into the ones that Whole Foods has, where they put a bunch of smaller bags of dried mango into one big bag, I guess to divide them up for kids’ lunches. But they’re chopped up into little bits. So if you prefer your dried mango in little pieces rather than big chunks, get the Whole Foods bags, and you’re all set.

Everyone uses AirPods, right? They’re sort of an integrated thing in everyone’s life now. It’s ubiquitous. But I certainly use mine all the time.

And some new favorites

I love Clare V. I just love her whole aesthetic and everything she designs. This scent that she recently put out is this unisex scent that’s really lovely. Like everything Clare does, it defines something that you didn’t know you needed defined for you. It doesn’t feel like it’s edging into the feminine or masculine world. It’s balancing between the two, hence the name Masculin/Feminin. I’m not good at naming notes — if I said, like, cedar or blueberries or something, I would just sound like an idiot. I’m just thinking about my 15-year-old daughter reading this and wanting to go hide. But you wouldn’t be bummed if you were trapped in an elevator with someone who is wearing too much of it, let me just put it that way.

Water for me is a bit boring, but if you throw some bubbles in there, it becomes ten times more interesting. And Topo Chico does it better than anyone. It’s hypercarbonated and it’s, for whatever reason, delicious. I can’t get enough of it. It’s the perfect carbonated water. I love it so much that everyone in my life makes fun of me about how much I enjoy Topo Chico.

Buck Mason has these new saddle chinos that have a super-high rise. They’re not afraid to go for the extra-high rise, which I love. They’re really quite different from your everyday chinos that you’d get anywhere else, or even at Buck Mason. If you find the full saddle ones, it’s going to be a whole different fit. It’s far more interesting than a lot of other chinos that you’d find out in the world. You can wear khaki chinos with just about anything, but since these have a wider leg and a higher rise, it’s nice to have something that’s a little more fitted on top. They have these super-thin V-neck cashmere sweaters right now that would probably go great with these. But a lot of what Buck Mason’s doing right now is really cool. Every few months, they come out with another must-have jacket. They’ve got great designers over there.

I love going into the Aesop store, and it’s also great for gift-giving. They have a lot of really nice scents — I really like Hwyl, and Marrakech Intense is really good as well. Any of Aesop’s cleansers, they all smell yummy. This is the one I’m using right now, the geranium, and I really like it. It’s just a nice scent to start the day with in the shower. And then your bathroom smells like it for 45 minutes after, and that’s nice too.

I saw this on Shark Tank, and I can’t believe this isn’t an idea that happened 50 years ago. It’s incredible. It turns any pair of shoes into slip-on shoes. I buy them for as many pairs of shoes of mine as I can. I find it exciting. Everyone who lives with me thinks I’m an idiot, but I think it’s great. You don’t have to tie your shoes anymore — you just tie them once and then you never have to bother again. That’s 30 seconds a day you save. Think about that. Over a period of ten years, you could watch a movie twice.

Drake’s Oxfords are just the perfect Oxford shirt. They’re solidly made. They fit perfectly. They’re not too giant, but they’re also not too small. Also, the collar is perfect — sometimes it’s annoying with an Oxford, where the collar is either too small or too flat. This one will never fail you. It looks like an Oxford in a photo from 1962 on the campus of an Ivy League school. They’re substantial. You just feel the quality and the history of the company in every piece of theirs. They’re a level above everything else.

I think, particularly for men, as we get older, we’ve got to stay moisturized. This is the nicest moisturizer I’ve ever used. It’s incredibly luxe. It’s a very rich, thick cream that takes care of you for the whole day. I’ve gone through a lot of different ones over the years, and this is by far the fanciest I’ve ever tried. I’m lucky to work as an actor where sometimes I don’t have to go out and purchase products — production will have it, and I’m just the lucky recipient.

My wife forced me to start using face oil a few years ago, and I’m so glad I did. This particular one I discovered recently, and it’s the best one I’ve used. It’s developed by a makeup artist and it’s really terrific. Sometimes things are overscented, particularly face oil, I’ve noticed, but this one has a really nice complimentary scent that can go with anything. It’s really rich, so you don’t need to use a ton of it. I like the way it feels and looks when it’s on — it has kind of a glow to it. I use it every morning when I’m getting ready. It’s great for the start of the day.

I think this is the first time Alex Mill has made jeans, but they’ve really zeroed in on what makes the perfect jeans. These have a really high rise, but the leg is tapered. It’s not super wide. They look like you’ve been wearing them for 15 years — they have that feel. There’s also a raw-denim version, but I find raw denim difficult to walk in. You have to be so patient to work in raw denim, and I don’t have that kind of time, so I have the medium ones.

A few years ago, a makeup artist I was working with introduced me to the Philips Norelco OneBlade, and I was really impressed. It’s so easy and compact and light. I like to have a little growth on my face — my face is like seven feet wide, so it’s nice to have something on there to break up the square footage. So you can use it to keep your beard at whatever length you want, but you can also actually shave with it. I started using it, and then I started seeing it pop up in the kit of every makeup artist I’d work with, so I figured they were onto something. And then it was just pure kismet that Philips came to me about partnering. It’s one of those rare circumstances where the product you’re out there promoting, you’re also actually using it in your everyday life.
