Star Fox Guard is a spin-off to the Star Fox series that is included with Star Fox Zero. It plays like a tower defense game though the player controls the fire manually.

Plot[]

The player is hired by Slippy's uncle, Grippy, to help him defend these precious metal supplies from an onslaught of robots. Slippy decides to help the player since Grippy didn't give the player any training on the AegisCam system.

Gameplay[]

The player sees all 12 cameras on the TV but the game pad only shows one screen, but using the analog sticks to aim the camera, robots can be fired at. Robots head towards the center to destroy the Central Tower and destroy the base.

The game is organized into missions with each planet having 10 main missions across 3 maps plus a boss mission. The player will also unlock extra missions according to their rank and progress.

When the player beats a mission, they will obtain precious metals based on the robots defeated. They will also get bonuses for certain special events like defeating all the robots, quickly defeating robots in succession or killing robots right before they attack the central tower. Earning these metals will raise the player's rank which can unlock symbols for the player's profile, extra missions and new kinds of special cameras.

Development[]

The game was originally revealed at E3 2014 as Project Guard. It was simpler with only R.O.B.-like enemies, but there were signs of it being a Star Fox game with the symbol of the team being on the cameras.

The game was later addressed with the announcement of Star Fox Zero in that PlatinumGames were also working on the titles

Reception[]

Star Fox Guard got "average or mixed" reviews on Metacritic receiving a metascore of 74/100 based on 33 critic reviews.[1]
